The last time I flew to Japan I REALLY needed eyedrops. The air on the plane is so dry, and you're pretty sleep deprived by the time you arrive. I was actually afraid that I had pink eye, but after arriving and having a good sleep, my eyes were a lot better. But I recommend eye drops!

An alternative for phone service is a pocket wi-fi unit. They are cheaper than international service from your domestic provider, you don't have to alter your phone or keep track of your SIM card, multiple users/devices can use the signal, and they give you wi-fi with no need to log in to hotel or station wi-fi wherever you go. I guess the only issues are carrying it around (they are the size of a phone or smaller) and keeping it charged, They can be reserved ahead of time via several web sites. I have used them on many trips and will continue to do so. Also, Donna mentions the IC cards for transportation, but that applies mostly to subway and local train trips; they are not as useful for inter-city trains like shinkansen. If you are planning on more than two shinkansen trips (or more than one round trip), the Japan Rail Pass is worth the money and is a great time and headache saver. 🙂
I have looked into getting pocket wifi and ruling out the international service completely just because of the price difference. I don't think I will need to call anyone and if anyone needs to contact me, I'm sure they can use iMessage, Facetime or messenger. Is that how you went about it too?
Yeah that was my first option but then found an e-sim which is also a cheaper solution (South Korea). Just ensure you don’t need to use most services that requires phone verification 😅
This helped me immensely!!!! I hadn't even yet considered that my perscription medication could be considerred illigal in Japan. I had been more concernec about navigating and being aware of local customs. This post really saved me from possibly ruined trip!

Great video summary of all the packing tips and regulations! One other train card to get BEFORE you leave is the JR Pass if you plan on going to multiple cities. I am researching for my first Japan trip and this type of pass can only be purchased before you get to Japan, otherwise you just buy individual train tickets.
Yes! This is an essential tip because the JR pass discount is only for tourists, and you cannot purchase the pass when you arrive. 😊As you said, it's worth the purchase if you're planning on visiting multiple cities. Thanks for sharing 💕
P.S!!! JR pass is very worth it if you’re riding the bullet train multiple times during your trip, but otherwise check if the trains you’re riding are JR! Most of the trains I used on my trip were not JR, so the JR pass would not save a person like me any money! Check before you buy!

Good tips, keep it up. Arriving in Osaka in April, will the suica card be enough to get us to Kyoto and back to Osaka? or is the JR better and more cost effective for local train, buses, and subway for 10day trip?

Been to Japan a lot. Feel I was the last one out back in March 2020 and happy to be going back this year finally. April trip? Sakura season, Japanese are crazy about the cherry blossoms, it'll be shown on the news like a weather map. Kyoto, hmmm... theres the castle, the tower, old town Geisha district, Bamboo grove, you may even find an onsen in your downtown hotel. Kyoto ropeway is cool. Seems like these (aerial trams) are to be found all over Japan. I would suggest a side trip to Nara to feed the crazy deer, tell em Arigato, they will give a quick bow and expect another cookie! haha. US Mens XL shirt, good luck finding that size in Japan. I like to shop for gifts to bring home the last day, even Narita has a lot of decent shops. And for the guys, bring a suite. Some events in Japan are formal so don't be that American slob. Women can wear a colorful kimono and be just fine. Might want to get a 'Visit Japan Web' account for the covid stuff.

Anyone have any tips on how to book hotels in advance? I’m mainly having trouble because I don’t know if I have to have an account with yen before paying in order to avoid fees and etc.
I book through either Airbnb or Expedia for my stays and pay upfront rather than at the hotel to avoid additional fees. I don't know how it would be if you booked directly from the hotel if they will charge any fees, but you can ask.

I'm going to Japan on April 5th and THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENT haha :) :)
Thank you for this really informative video , im planning a trip to japan this summer and i wanted to know if there are any airlines you recommended?
Japan's website says that a PCR is valid. I only see RT-PCR mentioned in an example document.
same. Maybe just a misunderstanding on her part
Thank you for the tips.coz im flying to japan next week..do you know when is the time we need to register on the visitjapan web? A week prior or days prior our flight? Thank you
Hi, from where did you buy your neck pillow?
I got it from Amazon. It's a bit pricey but I SWEAR by it. I had to get another one since my fiance loves it as well. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LB7REFK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
im going in less than a month. this video was recommended and it was right on time
Yay! Happy travels 💕

Hi! Will there still be cherry blossoms in April?🌸🌸🌸
There will be Cherry blossoms in April, but they will already be in full bloom🌸The forecast for When & Where To See Sakura in Japan is already out: livejapan.com/en/article-a0001033/
I’ll be there April 5-19, worried that I won’t find any clothes that fit me! I’m 6’1 183 and wear an L-XL tee in the US 😂
yeahhhhh.. not going to lie. Japan is not the place if you're looking to shop for larger sizes of clothes or shoes. My fiance, he's 5'9, 180, and already has a hard time shopping there, but then again he goes for the food not to shop lol Pack well, and I hope you enjoy your trip!! 🤗
@@heyyyitsdonna Thank you! You too! :D

I recently dyed my hair blonde but my passport pic has black hair, do you know if it'll be an issue going through Japan custom?🙏 (travelling in March)
You will be fine. I traveled through with blonde hair when my passport photo had black😊Happy Travels 💕
Can I take dramamine through Tsa or do you buy it after you go through tsa ?
I take the Dramamine with me through TSA, the travel size 😊
@@heyyyitsdonna oh sweet is it also allowed on my carry coming back from Japan?
Do you have to take Tylenol or other medication in the original bottle ?
TSA does not require over the counter medications to be in their original packaging. However, using the original containers may limit delays or additional questioning. Prescription medications should be in their original containers with the doctor's prescription printed on the container.
is their an ATM at NRT airport so I can use my credit card to withdraw cash?
I’m going in ten days for my first time!
YAY!! I'm excited for you. Japan is one of my favorite places. Happy Travels 💕
restrictions aside, did you enjoy the fall or spring more?
Both. If you want to see Japanese cherry blossom season... In April
Hey txx abunch for the tips will travel on April so I need to ask you I've the Johnson vaccine but got no boosting n live in africa so is de pcr test n vaccine card enough???
Such an informative video! Thank you! You did not mention any type of outlet converter. Can we plug in US devices without one?
Glad you found it helpful! Japan outlet is a type A & B plug (two flat parallel pins that plug into the outlet), and their standard voltage is 100v. You'll need a voltage converter if your appliances are higher. I would check to see which appliances you're planning on using there since they might be dual voltage, so a converter isn't necessary. ☺
@@heyyyitsdonna Thank you for the quick reply! My 23 yr old son is doing a solo trip in April, so my guess is that he will only need to plug in his camera, extra battery & electric razor. He's not bringing his laptop.
We have a converter from a trip to Italy he took in 2019, and it came with a bunch of differently shaped plugs. Going to check it's got the A & B. Thank you!
I'm currently packing for trip to Japan. It's my first trip and I leave in mid May. I usually just pack my vitamins in little pill pockets for each day that I travel. Do we have to declare vitamins? Has anyone had problems taking vitamins in pill pockets to Japan?
No problem with vitamins.
How’s the weather going to be in mid April?!
I'll be there during mid-April ~ during the day, it'll be between the low 60s to 70s with a few days of rain, so bring layers and a rain jacket 😊
Watched your video about Data for the phone. I called my phone carrie T-Mobil. I have the Magenta Max plan . I was told unlimited data with over 200 + countries and free wi-fi . Calls are 25 cents / min. It works in Hong Kong last year, now I am going to test it out in Japan.
Do you have to take a Covid test before returning to the USA?
As of June 12, 2022, the CDC no longer requires air passengers to show a negative COVID-19 test result, or show documentation of recovery from COVID-19, prior to boarding a flight to the United States. The CDC’s Order requiring proof of vaccination for non-U.S. citizen nonimmigrants to travel to the United States is still in effect. I'm going in 3 weeks. I am chomping at the bits waiting lol
OMG, I get it!! I'm annoying my fiance by counting down the days 😊So excited for you, happy travels!!!

@@heyyyitsdonna thank you so much for the video and the reply! Happy travels for you as well!🤍
Does the Digital Vaccine Card work or do we need the paper?
Do you need tourist visa? I am planning for 2 weeks. I'm a permanent australian resident.
Nope. Australians who enter Japan as tourists may stay for up to 90 days as long as they hold an Australian passport which remains valid during their stay and is still valid when departing Japan.
@@heyyyitsdonna I'm not a citizen yet. I have an international passport with a permanent resident visa. I tried googling, some says that I need a tourist visa and some don't. That's what I'm very confuse about.
See you there!
Whhhhaaaa?!! when are you going? we're going to be there 4/17-5/3
Dang just gonna miss you. 3/28-4/13. Have a great trip!
just a realization i had while watching this.. people using credit cards.. they might not charge a foreign transaction fee when pulling out money at an atm, but they mightt charge that cash advance rate... i haven't done it before so i dunno just a thought. it might be better if american to use your bank and pull out there, in your home country.
It really depends on your bank.. I get charged a fee for taking money out and charging it when I travel internationally. My Fiance gets charged a fee, but his bank will refund it at the end of the month.
@@heyyyitsdonna very interesting!
Is it true we still need do to Rt PCR test?
Yes, unless you are fully vaccinated (your original 2 shots + a booster).
@@heyyyitsdonna thank you! Its good I asked you coz I saw in other vlog they just said we need rt pcr 😁
Y’all I really booked during golden week 😭😭😭 rip
I made that mistake on my previous trip to Japan😭not gonna lie, it's going to be crowded but hey you still make the most of it 💕my fiance and I survived by eating during off hours and starting our day as early as possible. You're still going to have a good time, Happy Travels 😊
This is very helpful thank you I been to Japan before but I didn't do any of this sadly thank you I have a money place near me on the mall that does money trades
@@heyyyitsdonna thank you, this is helpful. I appreciate it!
hi can you share your full itinerary?

Mask face it,s mandatory?
Mask are not mandatory nor enforced, but I encourage you to bring/wear one while your visiting. Mask wearing has become a daily custom in Japan.
