Yes! So happy you reviewed this. If you didn't get to it before the cruise, I would have made it my life's quest to play a game of that with you. :) The characters are so different and thematic, it's a blast!
Agree completely. This game was the sleeper hit of the last few months for my friends and me. The artwork is fantastic and the gameplay is sooooo smooth. Love it.
I would also like to add as a none-magic player (like i never-ever played it) I very much enjoy this game allthough i did get trampled when we introduced it to the magic players in our group. It also works really well as a 3 player game. I advise not to play as 4 since it tends to bog down quite a bit. All in all. A really good game with alot dif characters. Artwork is top class. Just don't go up against the Ninja as the Death Knight. :)
Oh and btw. I did not kickstart this game. A friend of mine did but this is one of the best I've played out of kickstarter and he and me and close to 100 projects combined.
I'll be picking this game up. I got codex and absolutely love it too, but it's a difficult game to just play for the first time with someone. This looks like a more even footing way simpler game to just pick up and play with little introduction. Codex is not.
I don't really like Planeswalkers in MtG, but in this one it looks like it is a better system (same as with Mage Wars). But MtG is more appealing to me not just because of living nature (actually that doesn't draw me much), but the simplicity and elegancy. Just a deck of cards. No huge player sheets, additional sheets, counters for stats, etc. Yeah, you might need counters for Magic also, but in essence you just use cards and i like this.
Every time I hear tom talk about magic I wonder what his opinion of commander is as it is a lot more battleship magic then it is streamlined combo decks
Is it not true that this is all contained in one box and for around $60? I ask because to get the for Codex costs closer to $200 meaning that while it may be better, at that cost forget it. I like the idea that 'everything' is contained in one box for a much more reasonable price which is what this seems to offer. Sometimes I feel these comparisons are something like comparing a basic Ford car to a high end BMW model. Without comparing cost/value the Ford obviously sucks but realistically the 2 should not be compared because cost-wise they are in a different league.
I like magic, but for me the cost of just to stay competitive is just too much. Saying that I have a lot of games, but all my money is invested into many games not just one. Well that is if you not include Heroscape, yeah that was expensive. Now I get excited seeing games like this game. Because it lets me play the same style without heavy investment to stay current, of both time and money.
The ninja and the monk are actually quite broken.. It's fun I guess to have them, but played correctly they are far better than any of the other characters. Especially the monk, just unbeatable. So the 10 characters in the normal game are much better. Plus, the KS edition is still available, if you want those 2 "boss battle" characters..

I'm shocked he didn't mention the gorgeous artwork one time. I'm only going by the little I've seen but what he did show looked amazing.
Agreed, the artwork really is fantastic.

Commander is my favorite way to play.

Reminds me of Hearthstone.
Love you Tom, but where the hell is Sam, love his reviews.
