Increase Your Deadlift with Deficits

  • In today's video I go over my favorite deadlift variation to increase your pull. The best thing about this besides the obvious carry over to your deadlift is the fact it require little to no extra equipment or changes to your form.

    6’1” and long leg gang, with the exact same issues. Struggle with the first initial inches off the ground, yet I’m confident that if I get it higher I will lock it out. Deficits seem to be best over pause deadlifts or any other variation for me

    I used to have insane speed off the floor... then I got covid this summer, and my deadlift still hasn't recovered. Thought I was on my way to a PR, but alas, my pulls feel grindy as heck off the floor now. Got advised to implement deficit deadlifts. Having fun with them per now. Nice with some novelty that also serves a very specific purpose.

    I've been doing deficit deadlifts consistently in my Juggernaut BJJ strength training app programing and my deadlift numbers have been going up since. I have done snatch grip deads before but they just put me in such a weird position I sometimes don't feel they are worth the effort and IMHO injury.

    • @BasementBrandon

      You could either use a lower percentage estimated 1RM and use the same intensities, or aim for an RPE around 7. Depends where you are in training.

      Switch up your program or work on your weaknesses. Google Ortmayer Magnusson Deadlift program. It’s an excel sheet where you plug in your max. I run it usually once a year or so and never fails to bump up my numbers

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  ปีที่แล้ว

      5x5 programs typically have that issue. I'd suggest maybe looking at different programming.

    • @jzen1455
      @jzen1455 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eat more. Also what Brandon said. It helps to vary the weight, reps, and sets or periodize it. I personally like 531 or GZCL or any program with an all out AMRAP (As Many Reps as Possible) top set. I just enjoy the act of maxing out because it's just fun for me. It's also easier to track progress, and it provides the greatest stimulus for strength gains (but it can increase injury risk).
