    ALWAYS Swing Low To High On Your FOREHAND! (Pro Tennis Technique Explained)
    1. Pro players look like they’re sometimes swinging flat through the ball, but upon further inspection, it’s obvious they swing low to high

    Thank you ‪@EssentialTennis‬ , ‪@LiamApilado‬ , and ‪@12kgpTennis‬ for allowing me to use your videos

    Now I am confused because another TH-cam coach said to swing across instead of low to high. Just kidding, this video teaching swinging low to high is 100% correct. I've been playing over 45 years. Swinging low to high was true 45 years ago and it is still true. Good job coach.

      Haha you had me at first. Good one. Thanks for watching and yeah, low to high is OBVIOUSLY needed for hitting topspin over the net.

    Good Video Ryan! There are very few things that all pros do alike but Ryan has done an excellent job of showing you one of the most crucial things pro's do when hitting the ball.

    It's also very important to note that the racket face should be neutral or slightly closed at the moment of contact. If you just swing low to high BUT hit with an open to the sky racket face - you'll get zero or very little topspin. I noticed it when I watched myself hitting in a slow motion footage. That causes a lot off my shots go way too long - the flat balls just fly up and away. Now I'm trying to fix it, though it's not as easy at it seems when you used to hit incorrectly.
    The other related issue that I have is dropping racket head way to low before contact. Yes, hand should definitely go low to high, as Ryan shows in this video. But when I watch myself in slow motion - the tip of my racket head is almost pointing down few frames before the contact (probably because my wrist is way too loose) - much more compared to pros shots in slow mo. Their racket head drops (especially on low balls) but not as much as my. And at the moment of contact they are pointing to the side almost parallel to the ground.
    Just wanted to tell it because I see a lot of youtube coaches are talking about swinging low to high, but rarely emphasize enough the importance of the racket head orientation at the same time. Maybe that works for most people. But for someone with the issues like I have - not quite.

      It will be good if Ryan could explain what Tennis Doc video was trying to say. I am sure many people will get confused by the two contradictory videos.

    The coaches who discourage the low to high swingpath concept aren’t saying there’s no vertical component to the swing. They’re trying to emphasize the feel of driving through the ball, creating penetration, as opposed to the feel of brushing up the back of the ball. It’s a mental image more than what actually happens, and personally it helps me

    I just have to say wow! Not sure why it took me so long to understand this as I like so many resisted this notion but it was the focus on the hand that did it. So often coaches have this lame and inaccurate example of the racquet head going low go high but it is led by the hand as you so clearly demonstrate and the hand of course leads the racquet head.

      Yep. When you keep your head down it makes it easier to drop the racket in order to swing low to high.

    Tennis Doctor was making a true point but messed up how he explained it. What he was actually saying is you have to hit through the ball and not just brush up and hit too thin or 'round the corner' - thats true. But the way he explained it was definitely wrong.

  • @javierjimenez786
    @javierjimenez786 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Maybe what will be interesting is determining how much low to be before contacting the ball. In most examples the vertical travelled distance from the lowest point up to contacting the ball is roughly ⅓ or less of the full vertical distance.
    This might be what causes confusion overall: how much low before contact. But there is no doubt the motion should be low to high

    Good content as always. I do think the top panel of top spin pros is quite misleading and no pros from baseline swing like that. The swing path with top panel on is too steep and “cut the ball too thin”, resulting a ball with lots of spin but no depth.

      I saw his response video, the point Tennis Doctor was trying to convey imo is completely different from his video titles on this topic, I can see where he's coming from and I agree with the concept he's attempting to convey, but the message got lost in the poorly chosen video title. Him titling the video as to never swing low to high has nothing to do with it, not sure why he said it like that.

    I think there is a missunderstanding among the youtube trainers on what low to high mean, other coaches are advocating for low to high until contact, not what the arm does afterwards.
    After watching your video I did some shadow swings without the racket, you can literally hit straight in front (flat) until the contact and then by internally rotating the shoulder and without any manipulation follow up higher by default. It depends how much you tilt your hitting shoulder.
    I can of course definitely swing low to high till contact but the racket path is totally different.

    • @Better_Call_Raul
      @Better_Call_Raul 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "you can literally hit straight in front (flat) until the contact and then by internally rotating the shoulder and without any manipulation follow up higher by default" No. Show me any clip of a pro from the baseline with a level swing to the contact point. Have not seen any clips of pros doing that. It is always setting up below contact and swinging up to contact point. After contact, yes, you can then finish steep or more level. But there is always an upward swing path from start of forward swing to contact point.

  • @Better_Call_Raul
    @Better_Call_Raul 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I hear Macci say you can sometimes finish across the left pocket. Does that mean you go up high to shoulder after contact and then finally come back down to the left pocket? 🤔

  • @marktace1
    @marktace1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Federer swings more low to high than most although he adjusts his racquet drop more often than Nadal. Roger typically has a very low racquet drop. Djokovic and Rublev would be examples of less racquet drop than some. They are still swinging low to high.

    Why is the racquet misleading? At the end of the day, the racquet is the one that travels through the ball.
    And you can clearly see the racquet revolving around the wrist in a 180° upward circle.
    And I have seen ppl using just that to apply spin to the ball.

    The low to high produces very weak forehands tbh. If the ball is bouncing higher than expected suddenly, of course you have to adjust making it a more a low to high shot.
