Six fully painted conceptual illustrations in a month is actually so good and productive especially since you were traveling! You can really see the detail and care you put into every piece!
I think your art pieces for Peachoctober are way more complicated and need more time and preparation. The time you have is only very little, but your works are so systematic, detailed and productive.
I think it makes the most sense for these challenges to do a very small painting- like a 2x2 or a 3x3. The works that you were making were huuuuuge and they each obviously require a LOT of time and effort from planning to completion.
Thank you so much for saying "2 pieces a week is a lot sometimes" because it is exactly how I feel and how long it takes me and I thought I was the only one 😭😭❤
So true that all the ideas generated can be reused for a later time. Making art everyday for most artists is not sustainable since we all need life and work balance ☺ I appreciate you being transparent on all the pieces you made and showing how long each one takes!
The analogy of running a marathon is super precise, I hadn't thought of it that way... Thank you for being honest here, perhaps many of us can relate to the fact that we can't be painting for a challenge like that every single day. There are many steps to the artistic process, maybe trying to synthesize or rearrange stuff in order to reduce the steps could work (?) It would be a delight to see 31 new lovely pieces of yours & a have video for that, but honestly, I think this one is very valuable, very authentic, and a success within "failure".
The sketches alone are their own projects!! So much BEAUTIFUL work in there😍 would love to see how you revisit these wonderful ideas, everything is absolutely beautiful and thought out and super impressive 😵 you really did great!!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It’s always helpful to hear that it’s meant to be fun and you don’t have to be so hard on yourself. This year I was doing a monthly mural project, but suddenly had to give it up because I had a break up and had to move out of my space. I was sad over the heart break so it made the feeling of failure of the project worse. But I did 9 out of the 12 months and my original intention was to get more mural projects in my portfolio so I succeeded in that goal! As you say, now I have 9 new mural designs I could potentially use elsewhere :) It feels really good to say that :) Thanks again!
I made it to day 20 of peachtober and then got the cold, I’m not mad at myself because I’d rather rest than be burnt out, I tried to stay a day or 2 ahead but that only lasted the first few days and I still made more art than I normally would and I learnt some new things about my art 😊
Such beautiful pieces. I am just like you in this regard. Still slogging away at my peachtobers because I don’t want to give up haha and I do have the time. I’ve grown sooo much though from this challenge. I agree, every painting is a step of growth.
I participated in peachtober this year too 😁 I missed 4 prompts. It is super hard and I found myself having to finish when it felt unfinished, so it's super cool that you have 5 that you're so happy with and are finished peices
Congratulations for creating such awesome finished paintings! Not a failure at all. 11 hours for one!?!?! You did a fantastic job. (I did Inktober this year for the second time. I kept it very simple, but I was still drained by the end.)
the pieces you did are so awesome!! such cozy illustrations. the unrealistic goals thing is so relatable. because it just makes you feel like you failed but nobody put that pressure on you but yourself! idk if you’re a perfectionist but that’s something i go through as someone who sets way too high expectations and then beats myself up when i can’t reach them. as a suggestion, maybe next time you could do smaller ones like 4” by 4” squares or something? i did that for inktober once and it really helped with finishing. im excited to see your characters in the future if u use them again! they’re so cute! also that eggplant light in the back is amazing omg :O
Oh my goodness Katie it is SUCH a marathon and these six pieces are freakin GORGEOUS! I’m so proud of you! These are not quick little sketches, they are full fledged paintings, and that you made SIX FULL PAINTINGS in ONE MONTH is INCREDIBLE! Think about that!!! ❤ I had to stick with veeerrry minuscule drawings and I STILL felt like I was going to DIE the whole time! Love your paintings and this video. YOU ROCK!!
I love the paintings you made ❤ And I recognize that feeling of creating a piece and getting that unique feeling of knowing that this is the style you want to create in! That is so valuable to know 😄 Love that you also raise awareness around having self compassion 🥰
Katie I totally understand! I wouldn't be able to get 31 days done if I was painting on paper as well. I keep my drawing simple and draw on my ipad for time. But for the first 2 years I did ink on paper again keeping it simple! Full time job, side artist, full time momma just can't do it any other way! But I'm happy you make this video thank you. This is my 5th year completing inktober!
You did amazing! Challenges can be tricky, I’ve done some that I learned a lot but other ones just left me with a burnout to take care of. Setting your own goals is way more important than following some random timelines or at least I think so. By the way, I really enjoyed your process and your art and wanted to thank you for saying “hi, hello” with such a happy face, I was needing that :)
You did amazing ! I finished this challenge for the 4th time this year and I always do simple illustrations ( 2 hours max ) so I feel less pressure so that would be my hack.
P.s. I totally understand what you were saying about setting unachievable goals for yourself. I do the same. I think having a big imagination doesn't help sometimes 😂
I see those art challenges throughout a whole month rather as idea gathering, so the same as you did. You come out inspired at the other end and with tons of things in your sketchbook that you can turn into more refined pieces. No matter if you do that with a prompt list, a sketch every day or in your case with a fully worked out prompt list and already some finished art pieces. You could even say you are ahead of the game and not behind. You also have a process how you approach your art and that alone is more valuable than 31 sketches/half done pieces within a month! That being said, I love the bee too! 💖🐝
I have chronic illnesses, so I physically can’t complete a painting a day for 31 days; however, it’d be nice if the prompts were released months in advance so folks with disabilities, children, and/or full schedules can plan accordingly. I’d love to get ideas and sketches out of the way over the summer so I could paint & record the progress closer to the fall.
Thats great!!! Even if it doesn’t seem like it, it’s a great accomplishment. Next year maybe you should try drawtober’s challenge. They have 6 prompts, one every five days. I think that way you can get more out of the callenge. 🤟🏻
It’s a really hard thing to do unless each piece is small. Even those who do finish usually do all the work early so that they can post on the right day. The pieces you did finish look great!
Girl, YES. UNATTAINABLE GOALS every day 😅 it gets cut down into smaller bits every day until I cut myself some slack and say "one paragraph is enough for now because it was fun to write and we are proud." And the biggest bounce back from the disappointment of failure is "I still want to do that unattainable goal. It still sounds SO dang FUN."
Congrats on the work you DID create! I found them alll gorgeous and I'm happy you're at least proud of them! Literally the only way I was able to complete the challenge was to accept that quick sketches, spot illustrations and simple vignettes count as finished pieces. And to be kinder to myself. To expect ourselves to do fully rendered daily pieces with a spread of preliminary sketches before hand is v unrealistic; especially if we add on making videos or scanning in pieces.
This was my first Peachtober or artober ever and I did all 31! I tried a ton of different mediums, found out I enjoy tattooing, and now because of that my life is going in a completely different direction. Some things came up at the end of the month so I didn’t finish until November but I’m just proud I completed it!
I just counted and managed 16! and have quite a few ideas for future paintings to try out. And you (and the commenter) are correct - that is 16 more pieces than I would have actually made in October! I went in having great energy and was really ready to dive in to this challenge.. and then we found out the second week of October that our offer was accepted on a house and then all of my free time and energy went to the madness of buying a house. I think next year I'm going to approach the challenge in a different way (if I decide to do it again). Six full illustrations is great! especially with travel and new pup friend!
Girl, I ❤ your pieces that came out of it! I somehow managed to finish it and will definitely be putting less pressure on myself next year as I also got a puppy.
Art challenges ... I often start them, even prepare in advance but I end up failing miserably and finish to hate them 😂 I love your 6 art pieces, they turned out so good ❤
Loved your garlic girl…. Because I’m THAT person. I eat it like candy. Loved your pieces and the thinking that birthed the ideas. I recycled some best fit ideas for Peachtober.
I think "fail" is the wrong word to use here, because you accomplished a few fully-realized paintings, and you conceptualized a whole story arc's worth of fairly detailed painting ideas. It sounds like you found a hard upper limit to how much you can accomplish in a day, especially while travelling, so that gives you something to plan around when accepting projects. In that sense, you both accomplished a lot, and you learned a lot.
I joined PeachTober too. I did the first day. I messed up my painting for the second day and then I just quit. However I’m going into November with a lot of more content and this video reassured me a lot. I love your art 🩷
I also participated but I only managed to do 10, which is not much but it is honest work 🥹 However, I learned a lot by watching other artists and something that I realized and I plan to try next year is making small pieces like justanotherada and her mini magnetisid paintings (I loved them), instead of larger illustrations.

IMO six pieces you are proud of is a much greater achievement than a months worth of art that is just half assed to hit the goal. well done🎉

the moles are making me cry they’re so cute and cozy 😭😭😭 wonderful job this month, you got some wonderful pieces out of this!!!!
these pieces are wonderful, any piece of work is a triumph as long as you learn anything from it ❤❤❤
I loveee your art process!! I dream of working through my art like that. ❤

the sketches are beautiful! ❤
such a fun video and watching your process! BTW u can import photoshop brushes into procreate if you're on the go for your projects!
when i joined peachtober, i made the plan to simplify everything just to catch up. For next year we will be ready 😁
Art challenges ... I often start them, even prepare in advance but I end up failing miserably and finish to hate them 😂

I love them all!
these look so amazing!
Your art is amazing
Loved your garlic girl…. Because I’m THAT person. I eat it like candy. Loved your pieces and the thinking that birthed the ideas. I recycled some best fit ideas for Peachtober.
Perhaps just do small illustration, without background. I did my arttober with black pen only😌😉

If you think you’re a failure, then there’s no hope for me. You’re amazing
Katie off topic, but your bangs are bangin
MidcenturTREE 😂😂😂👏👏👏❤
Idk, after it became my job, it feels like I do this challenge for three years in a row 😅
I hope my name inspired you as much as you inspire me Kati...:)
I only got to day 17 of Peachtober 🥹🫠
