After retiring from the military my wife and I have found ourselves slowly restoring a 2300 acre family ranch in central New Mexico where the terrain is harsh and the cholla is as unforgiving as nails on tires. My S630 has solid poly fill tires and they are unbelievable. Have had them on for approx 3.5 years and have yet to change a tire and they hardly show any wear and tear as well. I would also like to say Thank You as your videos have greatly assisted in my transition to ranching where I had 0.0% experience - hence my wife’s nickname for me - the accidental cowboy. Lol. Thank you an would love to stop in and meet you/see your amazing ranch at some point. Keep up the great work.

Michelin owes you big time for this video. Very professionally done. If you're willing to "risk it" I would like to advise you that jacking up an operational skid steer is not always necessary, you can put blocks under the back and put the bucket down to pick up the whole machine. Put more blocks under the front for safety and you can take tracks or wheels off with a bit less time

Hi Mike! Thanks again for visiting us at Michelin Tweel and for sharing your experience with your viewers. One thing I noticed during your initial review of our SSL Tweel in this video is that you might have fitted our 12x16.5 Tweel on a machine that normally takes a 10x16.5....because you mentioned that the diameter of the Tweel was larger than the tires you removed. If that's the case you'll certainly degrade the comfortable and pliable ride that the SSL Tweels can offer your machine because the 12x16.5 is designed for about 700 lbs more load per Tweel than the 10x16.5. That's a 2800 lb total difference for all 4 units. Since Tweels don't have an air pressure than can be adjusted, your fitment in the video is like having your tires way over-inflated, thus causing an overly stiff ride. If that's the case and you'd like to try our 10x16.5 SSL Tweels on your machine, please contact us at Michelin Tweel and we'll get you set up. thanks again, Tony Marconi, Technical Director at Michelin Tweel

Use a two foot 6x6 post and place it underneath at the back axle. Then tilt the bucket down. This will raise rear wheel(s) off the ground.

Thank you for ranching and the farm store. Wish we lived closer, I would work for you for free, I miss farming. Most people have no concept where food comes from. Just purchase your meat and produce from the grocery store, it didn't hurt animals. We have a large organic urban garden, grow tunnels, and orchard offering free produce with many comments being "No thank you, I will go to the store and buy fresh." Interestingly we have a major problem with theft and vandalism.
It will be interesting how the Tweels perform for you on the ranch. Wishing you a day of sunshine, easy calving, and no breakdowns. Marc and Paulette, Michigan

Those ride so much harder than the regular tires because as you said the skid steer isn’t held up by the spokes at the bottom they are held but pulling the spokes at the top. Therefore the spokes holding all the weight will always be at high tension just like a tire with too much air in it. in theory they should help with driving over rocks and such since the bottom will be flexible

  • @runawayacres4622

  • @robhakeman5873

Hey Mike if it's such a rough ride, couldn't the skidloader companys design a air ride seat or solid rubber trax. You should get a set and try out on the gator while your at it. I use to spend my days in the life of a skidloader 8 10 hrs daily except Sunday maybe occasionally depending upon the weather. We always had a spare tire and rim and used that fix a flat for emergency.

Ouch! Here in Southern Ontario, we've had a few too many surprises with tire dump fires going on, uncontrolled for days and even weeks..😯🤷‍♀️😥🤬
And with more and more focus on "disposal.." all I can think of is the coming headaches! I know, even replacing CAR tires comes with a "disposal fee." Unless you're willing to take your old tires with you when you leave after getting your new tires installed and balanced...and really, there's only so many ways anyone can reuse old tires.

A skid steer with a track does the same thing except gives you good traction and a comfortable ride not to mention no flats. .
I am glad michelin hooked you guys up but as a tire manufacturer clearly the engineering department hadn't read thier history to why all manufacturers went away from spokes and solid core tires.
Ride and handling were 2 big reasons.
Pneumatic tires are the answer for almost every tire problem, when speed is involved and in construction equipment tracks seem to do the trick.

At the moment I have puncture proof tires on my wheelchair, have some of the same issues, that made me try them, if traditional tire punctures means there are places I can't get due to limited ability to walk. In addition to the tires also have plastic spokes on these wheels.
So problems include, harder ride, less grip, especially in colder weather, slide from the wheels when you want to stop, so very much like you have found, though stopping quickly on a skid steer not usually a problem, as with the tweels these are heavier than wheels made like bicycle wheels, with pneumatic tire and wire spokes.
In my case the main problem though is the solid wheels mean the engine has to work harder, to get the same thing done, also in my case I'm the engine so it tires you out (pun intended). There are some amazing developments though, including folding wheels, in wheel suspension, in wheel motors to help out. BUt again as with your problem, the thing is money, it costs to try them.

U need a set of tracks for ur skid steer bc u found out those new tires stink in the cold and u don't want to run them through mud or snow bc they get plugged up with stuff and in my opinion only place they good for is working in junk yard bc when it's cold u found out ride isn't very good and that's why I went to skid steer with tracks and took them off my other pieces of equipment and sent them back to where I got them from bc I don't need that extra head ache dealing with those tires but best of luck on using them on ur place

As far as I’m aware tweels havn’t so much come about from tyre evolution and development, more from a need to fill a government contract for wheels for use on the previously cancelled now future moon missions and future mars missions. When the moon missions where shelved during the previous administration I understand Michelin where allowed to further develop and evolve them for other applications and sale. Again this is what I understand to be true and makes a reasonable amount of sense seen as tweels will work in various amounts of gravity where air filled tyres will not work.

I feel that if every livestock producer was as specific and professional and itemized as y'all with their budget, we would have a LOT fewer producers going out of business! Y'all have it down to a science.
