Love seeing your page evolve slowly since I found you around 300 subs. I will admit, maybe instead of a "video" camera go with a cheaper film emulator camera like the RICOH GrIII that way they can have a "camera" and still not break the bank. Plus it takes GREAT pics

Appreciate that! I've seen a lot about the GRIII on social media recently, but at the same time - I'd argue that that will teach you the same your iPhone will, but also cost an additional $1,000. But, it is a vibe to have a trendy point and shoot - so I get it.

@@RossBarnett02 100% I also believe that if you get a nice looking camera it will motivate you to learn more. Totally get the being frustrated with the menus and quitting but I honestly feel like those type of people weren’t in it for the art to start

smart...and so true...I think becoming really good at editing is equal to if not more important than camera skills....and you get far better at camera work when you really do the edit. I know a lot of videographers who can't stand to edit and it's kind of sad, because I think they would become far better shooters if they become a far better editor..

True, you need to be able to edit to actually make something out of the hobby. If not it's just a bunch of random video clips on a camera. Same with the professional world, you have to be able to do it all before you're able to grow, scale, and hire editors. So, I'll always put emphasis on learning the editing to fall in love with the hobby first before buying any sort of camera. Especially with how good and accessible phone cameras are these days.

I guess this is assuming that the person this is for is one who isnt making money from it at all.

Yeah, I would say that. There are some cases you can make money with an iPhone video. But if you’re going to be making money with a camera (shooting video) there really isn’t an option under $1,000.
