    I am Japanese. Sorry for my poor English.
    During the Edo period, there were female martial artists called Betsushikime.
    They were required to have martial arts skills equal to or better than men's, and were mainly used to guard areas of the castle where women and girls were present.
    Many women were appointed.
    Such women are valuable, so naturally they are in high demand.
    Miz would have had an easy time getting a job as a samurai.
    It was also possible for strong female martial artists to open dojos as martial arts instructors.

      @@maelyswega3045 That's indeed the part that would have made it complicated. But yeah it makes sense to want at least some of the women to know how to fight in case a male guard could let his lust abuse his position, let alone become the target of seduction.

      I think he called her a monster more because of preconceived notions about her being half white. Also, she had to present as a man to stay hidden more than anything else. The "bad men" her mother (that turned out to be her maid) referenced were after a half white girl. After leaving her secluded life and starting her path of revenge again, she had to bring back the disguise. But it's really interesting to know that female martial artists were actually embraced in the Edo period. Also, you have really good English

    At first Mizu’s husband’s reaction felt really off to me, but upon reflection, it makes sense. Women in her culture were not allowed to be warriors, but she showed him so much skill there was no denying she was probably a legendary killer. That would have been incredibly unique, and paired with her eyes and his shame in the moment, it makes sense that he snapped.

      Mikio was already being far more tolerant of Mizu's combat skills and attitude than 95% of men from his social class and era would have been. Mizu messed up so many times here. Drawing the swords after he'd said "That's enough". Directly insulting his honor and mocking his lost position to goad him into continuing the fight. Holding the edge of the weapon right against his throat.

      While understable that he is upset after being defeated, selling her and letting her to die was an ass movement. And then killed her mother.

      @@xCoatlicuex He was certainly an asshole for fleeing like that but it's not clear who sold out Mizu, if anyone. It could've been Mikio, it could've been Mama, it could've been both of them conspiring together, or the bounty hunters could've just tracked down Mizu through other means (if you rewatch the episode you'll see she wasn't wearing her glasses when confronting thugs before she encountered Mama on the bridge).

      @gnperdue 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@xCoatlicuex yeah, definitely bad stuff. Although it is a bit ambiguous as to whether he sold her out or her "mother" (who, I'm pretty sure the show made clear was not actually her mother).

    There is more interesting moment. Ok, women could be warriors as comments say. But Mizu learned her skills by herself without any teacher. So, her husband had a reason to be surprised or even scared.

    ...am I the only one who would be amazed by her skills and would love to continue sparring with her, but with blunt training weapons cuz "accidents happens"?
    I like to imagine the version where, with sword under his neck he says "You trully are a monster. My little cute monster" and kisses her. Like, having the whole fight as a foreplay.

      I think he said it because right before that, Mizu was talking about how she’s seen as a monster by everyone who’s ever seen her. He says something along the lines of“you’re not a monster. I want to see you, all of you”. That interaction happened only mere moments before. So the word monster was already in his head.
