    You can definitely give them some background on the Mad King....not a spoiler at this point.
    You can say:
    He was King before Robert -
    Had three kids
    -Rhaegar
    Viserys
    -Dany
    Rhaegar kidnapped and raped Lyanna Stark, who was betrothed to Robert
    Ned's dad and brother went to the Mad King to demand the return of Lyanna.
    He killed Ned's dad and brother, which led to the war.
    He was killed by Jamie at the conclusion of the war.

    My favourite little scene this episode is Sansa holding onto Ned the second she is scared in the duel, leaning on him for comfort after just last episode sayinv that she doesn't want to talk to him ever. I think it shows what kind of dad Ned is, and that Sansa is just a little girl!
    Not only is Ned a good guy who is just generally against the murder of children, his two eldest sons are the exact same age as Daenerys. It must be jarring to hear your best friend be so willing to kill someone who is the same age as your boys. Plus there is no necessary guarantee the Dothraki would ever cross (considering Viserys made a deal with Drogo that Drogo doesn't seem to be obeying already)
    Very excited for the future reactions :D

    The whole point of Ned's character is that he is moral to a fault. He is not going to get behind murdering an innocent child across the world for no reason. He has morals. So yes he would rather just not be the hand than murder an innocent child. Would you quit your job if they told you that you had to sign off on some child dying to stay?

    The scene of the argument between Ned and Robert seems random but it reinforces integral aspects of both of their characters. Ned across many instances protests the killing of children, and it has driven major choices in his past. And Robert simply despises the Targaryens for what they did and what he believes they did
    Edit: The actual reason Ned and Robert didn't see eachother for 9 years was over the same issue, Ned was disgusted with how Robert dealt with the Targaryen heirs and how he treated the Lannisters so favorably

  • @crappiefisher1331
    @crappiefisher1331 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    hmm, so far the show tries to tell you how honorable ned stark is.. in ned's eyes killing daenerys, only because she might become a problem in the future, which ned also does not really believe in, because dothraki don't have ships, is not honorable and so he won't do it.... also ned did not really put any kind of effort into becoming the hand.. in reality he did not even really wanted to be the hand.. he became the hand because of his friendship with robert and because he probably did not have much of a choice to begin with.. its unlikely that robert would have accepted a "no" from ned... so why is it so hard to accept that ned would give up his position because of something as "simple" as killing someone innocent?
    also remember: in the show daenerys is supposed to be about 16 years old, in the books she was 13 at this point.. so king robert basically says: hey, how about we kill a 13 year old child, which fled her country as a baby when we took over the kingdom...

    Not really a major point, but did you catch how Ser Loras cheated when jousting against the Mountain? He used a mare in heat to distract the Mountain's stallion. Distract the horse and you unbalance the rider. The Mountain knew what Ser Loras had done. That was why the angry Mountain lopped off his stallion's head, and then attacked Ser Loras.

    Ned does not want to kill Dany and her unborn child because he has Northern honor which the Starks are known for. You only kill in immediate self-defense. You face your enemy head-on, in person. Sneaky things like pre-emptive assassination of women and children is not the Stark way.
    A Family-tree chart with full names and photos may be helpful to the Sweet Summer Children.

    To the lady on the far left (nasa shirt) I understand you have seen this show and don’t want to give away any spoilers or anything for them but you don’t say a word!! It’s kind of annoying esp when they are talking about something that just happened and you won’t explain what is happening! Like when you are discussing why Ned wouldn’t kill Dany you really needed to add some stuff. Like to Ned Dany is really young and pregnant! Ned doesn’t want to kill a child that’s pregnant that he doesn’t even know that he doesn’t seem is a threat. He also doesn’t want to start a war & already knows a lot of sticky things haha. Yes, Ned can be a little too honorable at times but that’s the point and the point going forward for the Stark children…are they like Ned or not? Will they follow his lead or not? You have to remember the timing of this, women were nothing and couldn’t hold a position of power, they were raped, abused, beaten, etc…they were only used for making heirs, so to find an honorable man like Ned in this world is rare. ALSO, you can explain who the mad king was at this point bc they already have and they already talked about how he killed Ned’s dad and brother and that it was bec of Leanna (Ned’s sister), it’s very important stuff they missed and you refuse to explain to them.
    Anyway. I really love your reactions & thoughts and opinions but NASA girl can def add some more things sometimes…don’t give away spoilers but at least join the conversation with your opinions at the time you saw it. Watching you just makes me a little uncomfortable bc you don’t speak lol

    Just because rape happens doesn't mean it's considered right or ok.
    Robert isn't more of a rapist than Ned, it's not just NEd that has a high morale compass,
    BUt on the issue Robert is guided by his hatred and desire of vengeance against the Targaeryan, Ned can see that, And it's not ok to just assassinate someone that
    hasn't done anything to you, Ned doesn't hold a stranger (Daenarys) responsible of the sin of her family (The mad King).
    You seem to think because it's in a medieval setting they don't have a sense of morality and justice.

    • @goldenageofdinosaurs7192
      @goldenageofdinosaurs7192 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      This. Rapers are punished with the Wall or castration. It’s just as frowned upon then as it is now. I think the murder of an innocent, 17 year old girl & an unborn child goes against Ned’s moral compass, on top of other considerations, of course.

    The dynamic you ladies have going has been great so far - one having watched it before to guide along through some of the finer details of a gargantuan world with an immense depth of lore to it (and doing a great job of being careful with spoilers!), and two Summer Children who you can tell are actively trying very hard to pay attention and follow along with the story with what information they've been given so far.
    ... Which is absolutely a slice of swiss cheese with how many plot holes are in the story up 'til now. You've been given a ton of hints and inferences without explanation. The guesses and hot takes to try to understand are entertaining and enjoyable, even when they're off.
    And you've no real way of knowing the answers to all the questions the show has posed thus far, not even close - such as why Robert hates Danaerys and is seemingly frothing at the mouth to have her assassinated because she's pregnant. They haven't really touched on any substantial details or hints about how Robert came into the throne or even hinted/explained the motivations behind the war. All in due time tho!
    You're on the right track to understand the finer details and depths of the plot as you keep gong.
    All this to say, the effort you're putting in is evident. It's impossible to understand everything going on just yet. Keep it up and looking forward to following along the journey!

    The two ladies have to understand that they intentionally don't know all the reasons why things are happening yet. So when the lady in the middle is questioning why Ned would even care about some random girl, the show literally had not told her why yet. It's a very valid question. From the information they have so far, Ned does look weird for caring about her. Some of these plots are not played out on for many seasons in the future.

    Robert Baratheon hates all Targaryens with a passion because a Targaruen, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenarys older brother is responsible for taking away Roberts love interest Lyanna Stark which was the caused of Robert Baratheon's rebellion. Robert killed Rhaegar on the battlefield and went on to overthrow Aerys II Targaryen the "Mad King" their father to become the new ruler of the 7 Kingdoms. Viserys and Daenarys were children at the time. They were evacuated before any harm could become of them. Robert wont rest until all Targaryens are dead I think he said that in an earlier episode. All this information was revealed earlier. Daenarys other brother Viserys offered off his sister Daenarys to Khal Drogo a Dathroki lord as an arrange marriage in return Khal Drogo would use his army to help Viserys take back his families throne. Lord Eddard Stark "Ned" is a good honorable man almost to a fault. He does not think it's honorable to kill a pregnant woman who at the time pose no threat to the Kingdom. Ned refuse to do the dishonorable thing. If you go way back before the Throne was taken over Eddard Stark could have claimed the Iron Throne for himself, but instead he saved it and gave it to Robert his best friend the man he was raised with. It was Lord Jon Aryn the old hand that raise them both. He was a father figure to them. I also want to point out that Lord Petry Baelish "Little Finger" was raised up with Catelyn Stark lord Eddard Starks wife which is why she told her husband Ned that Little Finger is like a brother to her. Little Finger was Catelyn Stark's fathers "Lord Hoster Tully's" ward.

    I think Ashley's confusion over Ned's stance against sending assassin's after Danaerys is warranted. This is one of the times where context in the books is lost in the translation to screen. Ned has strongly established reason to stand against that decision, unfortunately there wasn't a reasonable way to include it in his screen story. It's one of the few *early* show things you have to simply accept.

    • @michaelhenry3234
      @michaelhenry3234 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@IshtarNike Yeah, you can reason why Ned would be against it, but I think the confusion comes from why Ned is _so_ against it that he's willing to sever ties with the king, which is pretty drastic even for Ned. Aside from reasons the show will get into later, the books are also a little clearer on this that Ned has a thing specifically against harming children. In the aftermath of the sack of King's Landing, the deaths of Rhaenys and Aegon really affected Ned, and Robert's response to it (pleased that they were dead) disgusted and enraged Ned, and it nearly broke their friendship. Robert ordering Daenerys' assassination is pretty much a repeat of that and Ned wants no part in it.

If they came back they could gather support, especially if Robert falls out of favor with the ruling houses. it’s such a loss to Sandor’s character, Sansa’s character, and their relationship to have Littlefinger tell her the story instead of he himself.
    Granted, Rory McCann’s age made it so that relationship was never going to be as romantic as it is in the books, but it still could have revealed his vulnerability, depth, and care for her, along with Sansa’s empathy & the reason she cheered so hard when he was declared victor.
    As shown, it just appears she is cheering for Loras, though he has forfeited.

The best way to learn stuff like that is through entertainment & repetition, which the Histories & Lore stories do brilliantly.

    I have always been against the history and lore reactions during the first watch thru, because when you watched the show as it was being aired weekly you didn't get a histories and lore episodes therein leaving you blind about the world and allowing you to make your own assumptions as the series progressed. They were DVD exclusives and while they technically don't contain spoilers. They do spoil the 1st time watch thru experience by providing background information about how each house was formed and how each house reacts to situations. This effectively kills all the mystery of the series. Once you know how the houses are going to react you lose that optimistic feeling like maybe this house or that house will change the tide of the series and instead begin expecting the tragedies. My suggestion is to do the histories and lore at the end of the series or do the first 2 or 3 after the season 5 finale.

    to maybe help understand Ned's motive for not wanting to kill Dany you have to understand that he thinks Robert is in danger, the Lannisters killed Jon Arryn, they're probably going to kill Robert too in his mind and he thinks across the sea is a huge distraction for him and if she is successful in getting an army he doesn't need to be in a conflict with the Lannisters also. Without their troops, their allies and their money they're likely to lose before Dany even gets started. In short Robert is worried about the future and Ned knows the big threat is immediate.

In regards to "the mad king", a little clarification by context without spoilers......what we know thus far is " the mad king" was the king that Robert overthrew with Ned's help. He was also a Gargantuan and the father of the now Kaliesi and her brother, which is why Robert wanted her killed.

    Sweet summer children status is not lost until a very specific episode. Honestly, one of the most memorable things from the Blind Wave reaction (for me anyway) is how Calvin, a sweet summer child, had to 'earn' the Hand of the King pin, and it wasn't until that episode that he earned it. Now, this episode could be this season or it could be the season 8 finale, so this isn't a spoiler, but anyone who has watched this show all the way through knows exactly which episode I'm talking about.

    It doesn’t even matter if Viserys or Daenerys are a threat. As long as anyone from their family still exists, they are a potential future threat. If Viserys and Daenerys are ‘innocent’ and do not want to threaten the legitimacy and rule of King Robert, they could at any time publicly renounce any claims to the Iron Throne.

    To clarify why the king wants to kill daenerys, she is the daughter of the mad king, who was killed before King Robert took his place. Her brother is heir to the iron throne and is a threat to King Robert's reign. The dothraki are a very dangerous army, and Daenerys is married to and pregnant with Kahl Drago's child. The dothraki have never crossed the narrow sea. If they cross the narrow sea, they are a real threat to 7 kingdoms and can take back the iron throne. That's why he wants to kill her.
