    Some bands got creative and did videos with stories, and there were shows dedicated to concert tape and videos before MTV. I mean, even Woodstock was filmed, but in general you had to be pretty big to afford that kind of investment for such minimal airplay (VHS tapes were available in 1977, but didn't become ubiquitous until into the 80's). Since MTV went on the air in 1981 (I was 14) and was dedicated to only playing videos (back then), that is when bands started cranking out videos to promote their music for real and videos became an art form. Then TH-cam came along, and technology made videos more cost-effective so pretty much anyone can produce and share music videos that we can watch whenever we want to, (and not wait for the VJ to play them like back in the day). Since Heart continued putting out new music into the following decades after MTV they produced more elaborate videos for later songs like, "Alone," "Allies," "What About Love," and "Never," etc.

    Ann Wilson revealed in interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards Mushroom Records, who as a publicity stunt released a made-up story of an incestuous affair involving Ann and her sister Nancy Wilson. The song particularly focuses on Ann's rage towards a male radio promoter who came up to her after a concert asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her boyfriend, band manager Michael Fisher. After he revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy, Ann became outraged, went back to her hotel room, and wrote the original lyrics of the song. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barracuda_(song)#cite_note-3

    Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, this was in the 70s, their hair really changed in the 80s, ha ha...but many to choose with Heart songs. All we had back then were concerts, Ed Sullivan show and other TV shows on TV was lip syncing most of the time, they couldn't set up bands. Also there was American Bandstand and Midnight Special where they were live sometimes.

    Roger Fisher, their lead guitarist gave heart their sound. Ann and Nancy Wilson wrote the lyrics. Roger Fisher arrange the music. After he was kicked out of the band after their fourth album, Heart's sound lost that energy and creativity. Listen to "Minstral Winds" from Dog and Butterfly album. You will love it.

    • @BobSoltis1
      @BobSoltis1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep - Ann and Nancy have been trying to pretend "Heart" was just them and a "backing band" for a long time now. Those of us who were around back then know that isn't true.
      Without Roger Fisher's great guitar and his brother Mike's vision - Heart lost their rock and roll drive and soul and became just another pop band cranking out sugary cookie cutter ballads.

    This song is their version of a "Led Zeppelin" tune. Anne idolizes Robert Plant and Zep. I saw Heart live twice and both shows Rock and Roll By Zep was the encore. She and Nancy doing I think an even better version of Battle of Evermore as the Love Mongers. Thats why they did THE iconic Zep tune Stairway to Heaven at the tribute concert...and made Robert Plant get teary. Barracuda is Heart's attempt at writing their own Zeppelin tune. And I can totally hear Zep doing this. Think "Immigrant Song". Way to go Heart!

    Heart freely admits they "lifted" the riff for this song from Nazareth who they backed up on a tour.

      No they don't! Nancy is straight out lying when she says anything about this riff because she had absolutely nothing to do with creating this riff. This particular riff is all Roger Fisher who uses the "galloping guitar" stylings started back in the 1930s that have been copied and modified by thousands of guitarists including Manny Charlton of Nazareth.
      Of course - Ann and Nancy have been lying about so many things about the band "Heart" that they joined - not started - since they decided to rewrite history to glorify themselves instead of the entire band that created and played these incredible rocks songs.

    I believe this was a gig they did in Vancouver, BC. They spent a lot of their early years in BC, playing the clubs.

      They were a band that eventually morphed into their successful combination in Vancouver, BC and pretended that they were Canadian for their first few years. Mike Fisher was a draft dodger (no judgment here - just relaying a fact) and ran away to Canada. His brother Roger, Steve Fossen, and Ann Wilson joined him there. Nancy joined the band a couple of years later. They also did their first recordings there.

    This song proves the girls can rock as hard as the boys. Ann & Nancy are hot, so are the band (of course).
