    Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I needed to trim mine because the struggle to pull it over my head was REAL!! But finding a demo on where-to & why was hard to find. I cut about 1 1/2” around the neck of my everflex and it slips over my head with complete ease now, as it should. That longer length band around my neck wasn’t necessary since I mainly dive in warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. I was scared to mess it up by cutting it, but I’m so glad I did!!
    Thanks for a great demo & info video on hood trims!!

    Fantastic video Andy! Loved it, I personally own a 7mm beaver hood, which has served me with the last couple of dives ( bought it earlier this year ) only alternation I’ve done is put 2 holes by the ears for equalisation and that’s it

    Hey Andy, what are your thoughts on hooded vests compared to just a hood. I normally dive tropical water, but at some point would like to get out to the Galapagos, so usually in the 75F or warmer. I am getting cold by the second dive wearing a cheap 3/2 full surfing wetsuit. That’s why I figure the addition of a 2-3mm vest would help. Thanks for the tip on not adding holes to flush out air bubbles as I’ve seen on other reviews.

      The SEAC vest I have was available with a hood which my mate has, not sure why I didn’t get it. Kinda wish I had now so I’m stuck with what I’ve got. If you can find one, I’d get it, I always dive with a hood coz I’m always cold.

      I’ve been cold water diving for 40+ years and used many hood brands over there years. The Waterproof H1 5/7 & 5/10 are the best hood’s I’ve ever used and still using. The hood vents keep the hood were it belongs, on your head keeping you warm. Any water that might trickle in the vent is largely unnoticeable. Flushing out big bubbles in your hood is both unnecessarily distracting and flushing out more warm air adds to chills and cooling.

      Hi Rocky I’ve just stabbed a couple in with a knife that doesn’t really work to be honest leaking air also leaks water both of which will be warm so you’ll loose temp. My advice would be to not do it. Thanks for watching

      Poking a hole in your hood will draw in more cold water than you want. All well vented hoods have a barrier to prevent direct exit/entry of air & water.

    Hi! I'm looking into buying a hood to dive in the pacific. From the comments on this video, it looks like it might cause problems with equalizing my ears. Is that true, and how do you handle that? Thanks for your informative video, by the way!

    • @AndytheNorthernDiver
      @AndytheNorthernDiver  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dorothy, that’s not the case at all, regardless of thickness or brand, I’ve always had it easy to equalise by pinching my nose. My wife does have issues clearing but not because she wears a hood. It’s never been an issue I’ve encountered with anyone I’ve dived with so I doubt it will be one for you. Good luck and thanks for watching

    Dumb question but will i look like a kook if I wear the skirt of my hood outside of my wetsuit? Every once in a while I'll get a stream of cold a** water down my back because my hood skirt creates a track straight down my back.

    • @AndytheNorthernDiver
      @AndytheNorthernDiver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, I’ve never seen anyone tuck in their hood. The biggest issue with hoods that have a skirt is that they start to curl up, it’s that, that looks stupid if anything (in my eyes). I only us short hoods without a skirt.

      @@AndytheNorthernDiver Thanks for the reply. I am purchasing a wetsuit online and it will be my first one piece type, as well as my first separate hood type, that's why I am uncertain about what hood I need.
      The model is a Scubapro everflex 5/4mm, a great deal at 213 €
      www.acquasub.it/it/catalogo/subacquea-mute/00a069-1/5613/muta-scubapro-everflex-5-4-mm-uomo.html
      But this suit does not have a smooth glide skin on the whole of the inside of the collar and I fear too much water may pass through.
      Also the hoods available on the site are both bibbed and not, click the side arrow to see the types.
      www.acquasub.it/it/catalogo/subacquea-guanti-e-cappucci/00a06c-1/5757/cappuccio-scubapro-muta-everflex.html
      Seeing other TH-camrs videos I see that they call the bibbed types the ones to use with a wetsuit and the bibb-less the ones to use with the dry or semidry.
      Any suggestions? Buy them both I guess.

    rubbish. put your mask on first? thats nuts. NEVER do that, in the case of a accidental breakage o the mask you are stuck trying to get it off in order to replace the mask with your spare. rubbish !:) but divers know that.

      Thanks for your comments Rahul, remember there’s always your way and someone else’s way, yours works for you but not always for someone else. I read a book about the Andrea Doria shipwreck where it was a talked about incase of the diver being kicked in the face to reduce the likelihood of the mask being kicked off in a low viz situation.
