Porth Wen Brickworks, Anglesey, North Wales
We visited Anglesey North Wales for the weekend in July 2024, and spent the day visiting the Porth Wen Brickworks a Victorian / Edwardian brickworks that made bricks from the local Quartzite quarry. This is now an abandoned industrial site that is a scheduled monument according to English heritage. The brickworks is a unique industrial heritage site as it still has intact brick kilns, boilers, and industrial chimneys. Situated in Cemaes Bay in North Wales, there is a layby to park in and roughly a 15-minute arduous walk that isn't suitable for wheeled vehicles, prams, trolleys, or the infirm.

I prefer a Paracord loop that teathers the bungee to the chest d-ring as opposed to a bolt snap. I keep it under my arms, and whenever I need it I'm not fumbling with a snap, or performing a contortionist routine to reach the bungee loop that migrated behind my back. The tether allows me to have my Bungie at my ideal tension but still lose enough to be comfortable when not in use, and reachable when I need it
Great idwa
Beautiful and cute fishy house 😅 EVERYWHERE !
Thanks for watching
It'd be nice to see how you charge the batteries
USB lead plugs into a slot on the battery mate and then into a socket on your wall
You forgot the part where u describe how to do it
with the trilaminate dry suit and the valve fully open is it possible to dive to shallow water up to 5-10 meters using a snorkel only withouth any bottles, or if not will a vacuum pump be needed to remove all of the air and then dive to these depths , will any of these scenarios work, you mentioned some squizing in the video if not equalizing the inner pressure of the suit, however I assume it wont be much to the shallow waters right?
Most of the squeeze happens in the first 10m - refer to Boyles Law. I’d just wear an appropriately thick wet suit for the temperature of the water you’re in mate it’d be much easier and safer too.
I use a dry suit for swimming pool leak detection but it leaks through the neck and arms, do you have anything g that can help?
Likely it’s the wrong size cuffs and neck, are the neoprene? If so go to a local supplier and ask the to check, maybe a swap to latex will help. I have seen people tape them with insulation tape to give them a adhoc tightening for just a pool, I wouldn’t do that for a “proper” dive.
الله يرحمهم ويسكنهم فسيح جناته وصبر أهلهم ❤😢
Amen
Thank you for this video. Do you have specific insights related to sidemount rebreathers?
No mate sorry I’ve not unused them yet

Thanks for that information so helpful
Hands down best system out there!!!
Thanks 🙏🏻
thank you for the great video.
Glad it helped
Super helpful, thanks for making this video! If you just have a ring with the o-rings removed, how do you know what side the red o-ring goes on and what side to put the o-ring that holds the gloves on? One groove appears to be wider but otherwise they are indistinguishable to me
Honestly mate I made this so long ago now I can’t remember.

I didn't learn this at all in a pool and in barely 1 m. visibility was expected to do it in a course OW dive. One of the many things that makes me think I am too stupid to learn to dive. Thank you for reassuring me that the more you practice, the better!!!!!

I don’t know why such ships with our modern Technology not can raise after this Desaster for all the bodies and families.
Human error I guess
Hi Andy, i know it depends on how trigger happy a person is with the inflation/deflation, but roughly how long would that 1L cyl last? How many dives do get off one fill? Cheers!
Great question, well posed, get ready for a not too helpful answer. First off, there are bigger sizes available. However, I find it easily does one dive, and regardless of how much I’ve used on any dive, that it doesn’t hurt to top it up for the next. Also depends how you prefer to dive, suit for buoyancy or wing, or a mix of both. The cylinder only fills one of them. Hope that helps?
@@AndytheNorthernDiver Thanks!
Just be careful with the Salem Express curse, it seems that people that go there rob the dead, end up in freak accidents, there is an account that at least 2 of the divers that recovered bodies from the wreck and stole some gold from the victims, were lost at sea, a while later in strange diving accidents. Coincidence or not, I always enjoy people that respect wrecks and people that died there.
Thanks for that, as you can see from the video, the only thing we took was pictures and videos.
No chance anything like that happened 🙄
@alaincaspar2148 hahaha very Hollywood isn’t it!
Beautiful, thanks for sharing. Have you been doing much diving lately?
None since Mexico last year too busy stunt training, I hope to get back in next year 🤞🏼
I've just got the ZD710 torch and really like it! I was really keen to buy a torch with an adjustable beam and the ZD710 it fits the bill perfectly!!
Awesome I liked it too
It looks like something I could use due to my limited use of my keg because of polio.
Yes definitely very easy to use
How could you read the gauge from all the way down there though?
It’s more to check if it’s got any contents before starting a dive. Once you’re decent enough at buoyancy and you’re not biting through it like mad, you’ll have more than enough in a bottle for a dive. But as part of pre dive checks, it’s a must.
Some time ago i also deployed my DSMB from around 10m ish in the red see, and not as a traning exercise, but for the boats above to see where we are. But while i was trying to prepare all, somehow the string tangled up in my second stage and while going up it ripped it out of my mouth and pulled me up towards the surface, by the time i managed to untangle it from the string i was above 5m's almost on the surface .... I think this is the biggest danger with dsmb deployment. And the only thing to do to practice is to go a pool that is at least 2meters deep, get BCD and regulator and a small bottle if possible and exercise there...
We deploy a dsmb on every dive individually regardless of where we are pond river or sea, building up muscle memory, experience and skill. However you do it, as long as it works and is safe, do it lots!
@@AndytheNorthernDiver i know. i go dive once for a week a year. i wish i could go more offten...

Honestly I don’t know. I’d use a nail brush and some soap
@@AndytheNorthernDiver i will give it a go and report back. Thanks again 🙏🤞😻
The horror look when you almost dropped the torch .... you made my day 🤣
I nearly cut that in the edit but thought it’s worth a laugh to leave in 😜
Life saver <3
Your very welcome 🙏🏻
Great video. Thank you for putting it together!
While this was not part of the video, what is your way to avoid dry gloves squeeze?
@avi-shai I keep the elastic loop of my undersuit over my finger and through the dry cuff, that way the glove can breath. If the glove does puncture then only a little amount of water can get in the suit. I guess you need to balance the discomfort of squeeze vs potential wet arm.
Great video. Thank you for putting it together!
No problem 😉
Newbie question -- what's the right proportion of dumpable vs fixed/non-dumpable weight? For example, let's say I need 8kg total weight and per your video have 2x 1kg dumpable weight on my BCD at the waist and then 6kg fixed to my BCD/tank ... will that be enough to get sufficient positive buoyancy if I do need to dump the (dumpable) weights?
Great question mate, not an easy answer though. I have no dumpable weights, but I can dump stuff from my pockets and torch etc. I dive with a backplate, wing and harness so need nothing in a wet suit and then an integrated weight in a Drysuit. In a bcd with pull out weight pockets I’d put no more than 1kg in each. That way if you loose one (which happens a lot) the result won’t be that drastic, and if early enough you can just fill your pockets with rocks until you recover the lost weight. It’s all personal preference really, finding your own way with practice and experience. I’ve seen people with several kilos in the dump pockets, imagine loosing that, you’d be like a tomahawk missile to the moon 🤦🏼♂️

Hahaha gotta love a Bovril, thanks for watching mate
As a fairly new diver, your uploads have been a great help in getting me up and running - thanks ❤
Great to hear mate
i wouldn't do the front, ended up scratching the tint on the front and now its a bit blurry to look though ;(
Oh dear mate
Hi Andy, great video, very informative content - thank you! What do you think about a 150cm hose for the primary regulator instead of the usual 210cm? My reasoning is that I do not do any cave diving, just recreational. I do feel that the usual set-up is not enough for comfort, but 210cm is too much. Also, I dive in lakes and sometimes the visibility is less than a metre! This means I wouldn't even see my buddy at the end of the 210cm hose... Do you think 150cm is ok? I would really appreciate your view on this. :) Thanks and happy diving!
210cm works perfectly for this setup, I too am not a cave diver but do dive in wrecks where there are restrictions. There’s a fair argument that says two short hoses are enough (in side mount) as you’d hand off your spare cylinder to your buddy and end the dive. But this is how I like my configuration and regardless of my cylinder configuration, the hoses are always the same so it helps both me and my buddy to know where everything is on every dive. Her kit is also configured the same. But how you and anyone else configured there kit is up to them. How did you come up with 150cm? Hope that helps
Thanks so much for the quick reply 😊 I came up with 150cm as I simply cannot seem to find a 180cm hose! 180cm would probably be better as I am not tall and it would have resulted in a nice streamline configuation. @@AndytheNorthernDiver
So what I had in mind would be 150cm for my primary regulator which is what I would hand over to my buddy, and the secondary regulator on a bungee around my neck, just as you have. I can still tuck the primary 150cm hose under my arm and around my neck, but there is no looping in my belt or under the cannister.
@@DivingDiscoveries I’m 165cm tall if that helps but looped properly under my torch and round my head, it’s still slick, if a little long you can always tuck it in your waist belt
@@AndytheNorthernDiver oOookay!! Well, then a 210cm should be ok for me 😀
thanks for the review. I'm thinking of buying it right away 👌
Great mate
thanks for this
Strongly advise you not to bother with this product or company. after spending so much money on this thing, including purchasing an extra battery the left motor broke and now I’ve been told because it’s an old model. I have to buy a left and right motor. How about customer service have a few old motors left and if not, you should at least be offering your old customers, two new motors for the price of one.
That’s a shame, but to be expected I guess with new companies that have very little history
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I needed to trim mine because the struggle to pull it over my head was REAL!! But finding a demo on where-to & why was hard to find. I cut about 1 1/2” around the neck of my everflex and it slips over my head with complete ease now, as it should. That longer length band around my neck wasn’t necessary since I mainly dive in warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. I was scared to mess it up by cutting it, but I’m so glad I did!! Thanks for a great demo & info video on hood trims!!
Great thanks, glad it helped
Bit confused, why are you putting the gloves on inside-out with the fluffy bit on the outside? Mine when came fitted have the white fluffy lining on the inside of the glove. Also, what is the best way to trim off excess glove material without damaging the glove system?
Several reasons, the white stands out more for hand signals with your buddies, the flocked effect gives more grip (for a few dives till it wears off), I just use scissors to trim the excess off. Thanks for watching and reaching out.
Very helpful!
Great thanks
Okay, so how besides the exterior shots, EXACTLY HOW IS IT DONE??? (Down voted this crappy video)
Thanks for watching though and taking time out to comment, all adds to the algorithm 👍🏼🤪
Good to have you back!!!
Thanks mate, I can’t wait to get back in, asap
Would you mind showing how you route your drysuit and inflator hoses
Use the two short hoses for the inflation of both
