There are 3 types of concept cars
The first are the kind that are so outlandish, futuristic and unrealistic or so expensive that you know they have no chance of ever being produced.
The second kind are the ones where some things might be unrealistic (such as cameras and screens instead of rear view mirrors) but the general characteristics of the car are grounded in reality. It's kinda 50/50 if these get produced, if they do usually a lot of the more fancy aspects are removed for production.
And the third type are the ones that are so normal or just modifications of existing cars that you just know it's coming to the dealerships next year.
The third ones are basically prototypes like the Honda E prototype, Jaguar C-X16, Toyota FT-86 II, Renault Twin’z concept, renault sport spider, pontiac G8 ST, nissan Z proto, etc. still called concepts if they are uncertain of some things like if its gonna be made or if its gonna change a lot
There are vehicles with cameras/screens instead of mirrors that are in production; however, they aren't allowed to have them in North America due to regulations.
I really wish we could have just one super outlandish Batman spaceship movie looking car make it into actual production

The thrid type seems to also have a huge amount of retro style cars, like the Chevy Camaro and Mini cooper

It’s sad some of these cars were never made. They are such fabulous looking and despite this being some 10+ years old they still look more futuristic than new cars of today.

Watching this show as new cars and concepts came out really made it feel like we were growing up with the changing of the times. I remember how impressive it was in 2004-5 to have that Lexus self park, when now tons of cars offer that as an option.

Crazy how a lot of these actually became a thing under different names and minor changes made to the structure to meet regulations. Some actually stayed the same but it's interesting to see. I wasn't old enough to see the old top gear

That charger concept is way better than the charger we got.
Can't disagree there.
The Charger and the Charger Daytona of 1969 will never be beat as the King of Muscle Cars and NASCAR, first Car to hit 200 in a Circuit, even managing 230 miles per hour on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
Imagine a lighter and faster Charger Daytona, it'll give the Veyron a run for its money, and it'll definitely look good doing it.
But the challenger stayed.
Agreed, the charger you can buy right now is just too chunky looking compared to the concept.

I found out what happened to these cars whether they did or didn’t go into production:
Rolls Royce Phantom 101EX - Built and used as a experimental vehicle and was then developed into the Ghost.
Ford Iosis - Developed into the Mondeo.
Peugeot RC - Despite speculation, plans were never made to produce the car, and was then developed into the RCZ.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage - Produced from 2005 to 2017.
Pagani Zonda - Produced from 1999 to 2019.
Peugeot EX1 - Never put into production.
Cadillac Sixteen - Despite it’s speculation of being the ultimate luxury car next to the Rolls Royce Phantom, it never went into production.
Bentley Continental - Produced from 2003 to 2011.
Range Rover - Produced from 2004 to the present. (2nd generation)
Range Rover Overfinch - Produced in 2010. 25 were made globally.
Mercedes C9 - Replication of the Sauber C9 built by Johan Ackermann.
AC Ace - Produced from 1997 to 2000.
Rinspeed Mono Ego - Produced in 1997, but is now only classed as a concept car.
Mini Spiritual & Mini Spiritual Two - Both were never put into production.
Alfa Romeo Nuvola - Never put into production.
Panoz Roadster - Produced from 1992 to 1995. 44 were produced.
Dodge Charger R/T Concept - Made in 1999.
Chrysler Citadel - Never put into production.
Phantom 101EX evolved into the Ghost and Iosis into the Mondeo
I'd go out on a limb and say the Alfa Nuvola eventually evolved into the Alfa 8C based upon its styling and bodyshape

The Cadillac 16 was never put into production but it influenced Cadillacs design language for a few years. For example, the back of the Cadillac Ats is heavily influenced by the rear of it.

As a child I was awed by the Mondeo concept on top gear. Now as an adult I own one. Fantastic car, will keep it until the end of days probably.

A year late but i agree that it is a good looking car but i saw the entire episode and i'm sort of glad that it was only a prototype because the wheels alone were massive. Like 30-60% bigger than regular wheels. They could reach up to maybe higher than hammond's waist so if the tires had to be replaced they'd most likely cost thousands back even in the 2000s so imagine what they would cost in 2024. Tires alone would be 10s of thousands. The tires on a bugatti veyron super sport when it was 1st made were 30k a set. Yes they were specially made tires but they were the size of regular tires

It's a bit sobering to see currently established and popular Car Makes in the infancy of Production as a mere Concept Car, juxtaposed with the myriad of concept cars that never made it.
Then there's that Alfa Romeo CC, which is for all intents and purposes, the Godfather of the 8C and the 4C. Even though it never took off, it still ended up Touching Down at the end.
Makes you hopeful for motoring to come.
