You missed a big one, One thing I wish I knew when I first started using Fusion 360 is Lars Christensen. Not sure why, but I seem to get more out of your videos than all the other ones I've seen on TH-cam. I watch your videos so much my wife and kids yell "Not Lars AGAIN".
I'm an old-school programmer who knows just how important revision management is. I haven't even downloaded Fusion 360 yet, but I keep watching your videos and I understand that I'm becoming aware of the most important features through your channel much faster than I could playing around with it. You often say "You might be tempted to 'A', but a better way is to 'B'." and you are absolutely right... I would indeed be tempted to 'A'! Just being aware of the features and limitations will save many, many hours of frustration when I finally begin using it. Thank you for such an awesome channel!
For and old learner your explaining of how to do a particular function on Fusion 360 is easy to follow. Love your videos for beginners especially of which I am one. Thanks to your instructional videos I have just completed my first project.
Thanks for the really valuable advice! I hadn't worked out why the model I'd created wasn't working parametrically, and I watched hours of videos and tinkered with F360, until I watched this video. 👍
One Word. WOW. I have been trying to get a solid working Cad/Cam System without having to sell House, Wife kids, etc. so I can start doing it on my own Over 25 years experience with cad/cam (UG/Catia/Solidworks, Tebis,Mastercam/Powermill WorkNc. etc..etc..) I Was very very unbelieving when I heard Autodesk was taking over powermill, and was never a huge fan of autocad (Always lived in a solid world!) Your videos are far and above some of the best I have seen out there, not just for this software, but in General Your even honest when you oops it up. I have started creating and working with some general models that I have made and am getting right into the curve. The hardest thing for me so far (Like most software) is remapping and forcing yourself to realize there are other ways to teach that old dog new tricks. I will be watching your videos (am actualy trying to organize them now so I won't have to make a (I wish know now video) but that is sometimes the best way to learn it. Thanks again for your excellent presentations and as you say HAVE AN AWSOME SUNDAY!!
I have learned so much from all your videos, so thank you, but I'm a total noob. I would love to see you put together a video of "fails". Even following your videos sometimes I get errors or things happen that I don't have any idea how to fix. How about collecting errors from your viewers and going through how to fix them? That would make my day!!! :-) Thanks again Lars!
Hi Lars, Glad you posted another video! I really enjoy your stuff since we both come from real machining and design backgrounds. Thanks for the great tips; especially the ones for saving and import/exporting different file formats.
Thanks for the play lists. I have started watching the vids and learned a lot of what I should and should not be doing. Your tutorials are the best I have watched as being new at CAD. Thanks again Lars keep it up us so called newbie's really appreciate it.
You guys are so good at this and I am just starting out, so much to learn I have. Anyway thanks for the videos as I am going over quite a few of them now.
Louis,, LARS, I'am a follower of your tutorials. Yes I'm a beginner and have a question. How can you repeat a slot over a length, so you don't have to drauwn them seppereatly? For example 6 slots.
I'm not referring to 360 specifically, but direct editing is a double edged sword. Its nice to be able to quickly edit a feature in isolation with no constraints but not so great when features are codependent. For example, the size and shape of base plate or flange being dependent on where a cutout is placed. With direct editing you have to move the cutout and also change the shape of the plate accordingly but with parametric history based modeling you change one dimension and it automatically updates both if you applied proper constraints in the first place. Yes, it takes a little longer the first time but when I don't model using relative references and "fudge" things to save time it nearly always comes back to bite me in the ass when changes are made or I need to use an existing design to create a new one. It is very easy to end up with a mess where it's unclear what else needs to be adjusted to accommodate a direct edit. This is particularly true when working with families of parts driven by dimensions. It doesn't look like 360 currently allows this, but I sometimes use a direct edit within a history based model where the edit is treated as a feature itself. This way you have the best of both worlds.
Hi lars, I am new to fusion 360 and I have chosen your videos as my tutorials because its really enlightening. Thanks. I want to know if you have suggestions of your videos that would really help me to becoming a pro, thanks.
Hi Tolulope Olukokun Thank you for watching! I would just recommend that you practice as much as possible and then pick out livestream topics that seem to fit your interest...practice practice :-)
On the last example where you updated the CAD and it triggered you to update the CAM side, how do you link those 2 together? Do you have a video showing that by chance?
hi Lars just wondering how to add a vise and mill table on to the fusion 360 screen when I'm programming parts so I can see the relationship of the stock material in the vise your videos are awesome as I'm new to programming but have been a machinist for 30 plus years now retired and setting up my own garage mini shop again thank you for your willingness to help everyone
Thanks Lars! Excellent video. Planning on watching all of your videos! Did that reciprocating saw ever make it to market or was it for demonstrating purposes?
Hi Andrew. Thank you for taking the time to watch the video! The saw is just for demonstrating purpose. It was all modeled up in-house. Have a great day!
Hi Joshua, Yes, Autodesk has a partnership with Titan. I can't tell how excited I was when I found out that Titan was going to machine the mold I had created :-) He is a Rockstar!!
These videos are super helpful! Question: So I'm brand new to this. I'm designing a part to be milled out. I'm not sure how CAD and CAM integrate, do you know if a Fusion 360 file can be manufactured using MasterCAM?
Hi Bill, Sure can. You can save the Fusion 360 files as a step and then import it into Mastercam. You should also be aware that Fusion 360 does come with full blown CAM, so you don't have to use Mastercam. The nice thing about doing it all inside Fusion360 is that if there is a design change your CAM toolpaths will update with a click of a button. Hope this is helpful. Best, Lars
Hi Lars, I got into this to try and recreate trapezoidal shaped cupola for an Alaska Railroad Caboose! How do you do trapizoids that connect? Id send a picture to help explain it!
Thanks Lars, another great video, and YES, I also wish I started with this knowledge. This has been the problem with Fusion 360. See, there is this enormous sea of information from dozens and dozens of non official Fusion 360 TH-camrs all trying to help each other (and I thank each and everyone of them) because Fusion 360 has done a shitty job of developing a concise set of tutorials online to (A how to get started as a newbie or B) help with coming from another modeling system. We usually find what we need, but not in the most efficient manner, and because of this A) we will develop poor CADCAM efficiencies or B) think that Fusion 360 isn't up to current solid modeling standards, become frustrated, and move on. PS I did love your tutorials, they helped a lot with Fusion 360 basics....I just needed more.
Hi Richard, Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I totally get what you are saying, and I"m going to share your comment. Honestly, I'm not 100% where I would direct new users. There are the short video sessions www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/learn-training-tutorials or the longer webinars. I really like the one Arron Magnin did last week th-cam.com/video/VbSkwvZyU_0/w-d-xo.html I actually think I'm going to load it here on the channel one of these days. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to watch the videos, and taking the time to comment. Have an awesome day! Best, Lars
So happy you find them helpful. Thank you for taking the time to watch. I am Danish but have been living in the US, near Buffalo NY for about 17 years now. :-) Have an awesome day!
Oh, I am going through your tutorials at the moment. I am new to CAM and CNC machining and your tutorials are the easiest to follow and understand that I have found. I visit Denmark a lot, I have friends in the Horsens area, your accent was very recognizable, unique from other Scandinavian ones. Again, thank you for everything you do.
Hi Joe, Thank you for taking the time to write. Yes, install Fusion 360 on as many computers as you like! That is one of my favorite things. It is your Autodesk account login that matters. The Fusion 360 download is just a platform that you can install as many places you like. You don't have to read this, but your question reminded me of this :-). A few weeks ago I did a presentation at Pennsylvania College of Technology for Manufacturing Day: th-cam.com/video/fGyyF-yIYk8/w-d-xo.html I was co-presenter with a colleague, Colin Smith. As we are booting up our laptops, Colin says"Since I am going first, why don't I just log out of Fusion (Upper right corner) and then you can log in with your username and password. Then we don't have to switch computers in the middle of the presentation?" Joe, it was brilliant I tell you :-) He logged out, and when I logged in on his computer, everything was just as it would have been on my laptop; The projects, the menu bars, even my background. Ridiculous long answer to a short question, my apologies :-). Have an awesome Sunday!
Hi Tim Davies Thank you for watching! Can you email me the dxf you are trying to work with? lars.christensen@autodesk.com And I will try to help you as fast as I can
I get the idea of parametric, but I am stuck at understanding how to go into the middle of the history and make changes, without using delete. I am making a cell phone stand with raised lettering on the outside surface. F360 seems to hate deleting things - but it's then like you are stuck in time. How to go back to middle-history and get rid of features, without messing everything up?
You can right-click and edit each feature and sketch down in the history tree. You can also drag things forward, depending on what build order and associativity. So if I extrude a square block and then create a circle on top of the square block. The software will not let me move the square ahead of the circle because the square needs to be present for the circle to be there...Do I make sense? Best, Lars
Have you covered linking and joining different parts. I would like to see a video on how to link to different designs together. Say i build one design of something and need to add a different part to it from another design how to join those together each time i make the new separate design part. Hope that makes sense. Great videos very very helpful stuff. If you have made one of these already could you give me the link for it. Thanks
I've seen multiple users and multiple Autodesk guys explain direct editing and while I can see it being easier, it always seems to offer less control. Even though you can input an offset, I would never use it. For something like a hole that is almost always going to have some kind of rectilinear relationship, why not do it the right way and edit the feature sketch? Where do you come down on this?
Hi Mitch, Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and comment. I agree with you; when editing the feature sketch you are keeping the design intent. I have used direct editing on customers Inventor files, if they requested I made a design change on my end, instead of sending me an updated file. Nice thing in Inventor, the direct edit comes in as a feature. Almost like a "Change time-timeline." So you can roll back to the original state. But, the only "real" big advantage for me has been when a customer sends you a "Dumb Solid" like IGES or Step where you have no sketches to manipulate. So again, I agree with you. Direct editing can be helpful, but as you very well said- less control. Have an awesome day!
I am running a cnc lathe in a small shop in which all of the work consists of rounds and threads. Is there a way to search out drawing cylinders and threading so that at first I can avoid going through alot of videos designing things like boxes and pockets? also using the free trial version at home I cannot figure out how to save a file to my computer. I have asked but nobody sees the comments or answers. I need to be able to save a file to the computer or thumbdrive to work with it and use it--does the free trail not allow a person to save a file only to work on the cloud where it seems to want to be saving it to the cloud?? I need to be able to work with it even off line and save and import iges files and such
Hi Jeff, Check out this link: knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-make-a-local-archive-back-up-file-in-Fusion-360.html Best, Lars
Hi Lars. Thanks a lot for your videos about fusion 360. It helps me as a beginner for the 1st steps. I'm testing currently the program and I'm super excited about the workflow. But what is when I'm working with customers which have a strength privacy in the project and I'm working with fusion A360. Are my datas safe on the cloud? Can anybody see what I'm saving there? This is the only concern I have with fusion 360. cheers
Hi Oliver, Fusion 360 is using the Amazon cloud services and I'm sure there is some kind of white paper what that really means in terms of security. But, to my knowledge the data is safe on the same level as other high end cloud services such as Evernote or Google Drive. The data is yours and are secured by Amazons encryption.
Hi there great videos , but on this one I don't understand what's the advantages of direct modelling over parametrical . To me seems that all the cool thinghs you can do on direct mod ( delete and move faces) are available on the parametric too , that maight be an improved thing of the latest update , but then why keeping bouth modelling still ? really confused , please help
Hi Fabrizio Giorgi Thank you for taking the time to watch the videos! You are not far from right, there are a few advantages. In direct modeling, you might have an easier way eliminating fillets etc. I created a couple of livestreams talking about this topic 1. th-cam.com/video/2OZ7AuMXDJ0/w-d-xo.html 2. th-cam.com/video/y1JeUQM4GSA/w-d-xo.html Hope this is helpful
Hi Gregory Koke Thank you for watching! Yes, if you have it open in Fusion, right-click the top of the tree on the left and select "Save as STL" Have a great day!
When I imported an stl file it loaded ok but the views are wrong . What the top view should be comes in as the front view. How do I change the front view to top view?
Hi Dan, Use the "View Cube" in the upper right to orient the part to what you want to be the top. Then, right-click on the "View Cube" and select "Set current view to..Top/Front. Fun fact- There are no rules for what is suppose to be Top/Front/Right etc. in CAD. Therefore every CAD system has their way of doing things. Have an awesome weekend!
Hi real new to f 360 Love your teaching For some reason I can’t get to the cloud in fusion to get more file type as you showed in the tutorial there is no cloud icon, do I need to set something to be able to do what you did in the tutorial?I really need to be able to import more file types than is available in fusion. Also would like to know if there is away to turn a triangle obj or stl back into a solid so I can edited it in fusion.I have been a lightwave / curra animator for 15 years, but I have been doing NC CNC service most of 50years. but have a 4 axis mill and 4 3D prints so i need CAD/Cam Help
Hi Jon Ell Thank you for watching! The cloud icon now says "Upload" If you are on the internet you should be able to open pretty much any file type. Here is a video on how to convert an stl file: th-cam.com/video/yxC-kwuksug/w-d-xo.html Hope this is useful. Best, Lars
hey lars... i am very new to fusion 360 please help me out about planes. I mean i got confused at the time when i need to assemble components and planes are the things which makes me so confuse. please help me out.
hello lars, i have fusion 360 (student license) which was working good initally but now i am facing trouble like sigining in, unable to setup fusion360 for your account. can you help me with this?
Hi Marwa Mohamed Thank you for watching! Fusion is a mechanical CAD program. 3DS MAx is more of an animation modeling tool. For example for video game characters
Why can't i move stuff? and why does all the shit move when I want to do somthing to it? I tdry to extruded a hcircle, and the whole object moves and is not over trhe origin any more any way to move shit over the origin?
Hi Lucas, It is complicated :-) Before working at Autodesk, I worked for a CAMWorks reseller. It depends on what type of work you are going to program with it. It is great if you have SolidWorks, make prismatic 2.5 Axis parts and you take the time to setup and customize the Access database. With Fusion 360, HSMWorks and Inventor HSM you don't have the same automation for 2.5 Axis, but you will be making parts the same day you install the software because the learning curve is so easy. Hope this is helpful. Best, Lars

I'm an old-school programmer who knows just how important revision management is.
I agree on STEP or IGES files; good point! Keep that CAD/CAM videos coming!
hi Lars, simply the best like always! One question : Where i can get/buy an Fusion360 t-shirt? thanks again
Thank you, Andrea :-) Send me an email lars@cadcamstuff.com and I will try to figure out how I can get a t-shirt to you.

X-actly the staff i want to know! ...because there are no books or workshop-DVDs on F360 available yet...thanx!
I created a couple of livestreams talking about this topic

Lars ..Your Awesome thank you for your help.. I have a OBJ file, can I send it or save it as a stp file?
Hi Gregory Koke Thank you for watching!
Yes, if you have it open in Fusion, right-click the top of the tree on the left and select "Save as STL"
Have a great day!
Lars Christensen Hi Lars Christensen stp file ?
When I imported an stl file it loaded ok but the views are wrong . What the top view should be comes in as the front view. How do I change the front view to top view?
Hi Dan, Use the "View Cube" in the upper right to orient the part to what you want to be the top. Then, right-click on the "View Cube" and select "Set current view to..Top/Front.
Fun fact- There are no rules for what is suppose to be Top/Front/Right etc. in CAD. Therefore every CAD system has their way of doing things.
Have an awesome weekend!
G'day Lars, great tips mate I found them very helpful. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Aaron Ps: how do I get a shirt like that? Full figured man size lol
Hi Aaron, thank you for taking the time to watch!! Well, about the shirt- I bought it myself :-) shop.autodesk.com/
Lars Christensen Thanks Lars, I'll check out the link and grab one. Cheers
Can you make an Iron Man modeling series
Sorry, I don't know much about Iron Man :-)
Hi real new to f 360 Love your teaching
For some reason I can’t get to the cloud in fusion to get more file type as you showed in the
tutorial there is no cloud icon, do I need to set something to be able to do what you did in the tutorial?I really need to be able to import more file types
than is available in fusion.
Here is a video on how to convert an stl file:

what is the different between fusion 360 and 3d max??
Hi Marwa Mohamed Thank you for watching!
Fusion is a mechanical CAD program. 3DS MAx is more of an animation modeling tool. For example for video game characters
why company of autodesk don't make a free tutorial for fusion i look forward for tutorial for animation in fusion and i don't find any thing

PLEASE DESIGN A SPOILER FROM SCRATCH. THANK YOU
Do you like CamWorks? yes, no? Why?
Hi Lucas, It is complicated :-)
Before working at Autodesk, I worked for a CAMWorks reseller.
Best,
Lars
why did you say cheescake....
Not sure, but I do love cheesecake :-)
What is that drawing behind you? You're too young to have worked on the board.
