    I was surprised when you didn’t add grip strengthening to your routine. One of the biggest reasons people on the show fail is because their grip fails. I think this would help a lot with the ladder and the rings

    • @GoalGuys
      @GoalGuys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Definitely would be helpful with the rings. Holding yourself up by one arm is not easy!

  • @jamesrobinson672
    @jamesrobinson672 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    It seems you focused entirely on strength training to improve at these obstacles, but building strength takes a lot of time (as I'm sure you know). With obstacles such as these, they are largely a combination of strength and technique, and the latter is usually easier to progress faster. Take the ring toss at 7:50, for example: you are *heavily* engaging your biceps, and it's obvious that you are losing steam very quickly because of this (try hanging from a pull-up bar half-way down and see how long you last!). This is a common mistake with bar/ring obstacles: you should instead be almost dead-hanging (i.e. not engaging your biceps much at all) and mostly relying on your core and lower body to generate momentum to swing to the next peg.
    You did great work training your strength, but I'd echo the sentiment of some other commenters and consider learning technique too (this would have the added side benefit of making a more educational video).

    • @GoalGuys
      @GoalGuys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the feedback. Wasn't able t get a coach for this challenge, so it was a bit of guesswork on my to try and figure out how to train.

      Goal Guys hey I actually work at Pursuit OCR and next time you drop by don’t be afraid to ask questions for better technique to do these obstacles! If you need someone to coach you through these I’d be glad to help! I really wanna see a part two! There are some secrets to running up that 3rd wall and getting up the salmon ladder, I’d love to share them with you.

    What do you think about swimming 100 meters sub 1.30 minutes? Its still twice as slow as Micheal Phelps, but in curious of you could learn a good freestyle technique.

    • @trepidati0n533
      @trepidati0n533 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      1.30 isn't that fast at all really. I swim occasionally and could do a 100 that fast if pressed to do it. Something like a 1:15 would be a bit more interesting.

    • @alexanderdechaneet4001
      @alexanderdechaneet4001 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I can do 1:09, make it 1:15 👌 if he wanted to do a 50m challenge instead, a 33-35sec 50m would be somewhat achievable for him if he puts in the work

    Try swinging your body side to side when on the rings and developing a steady rhythm. The momentum will make moving to the next ring, way easier and take a lot of work out of your upper body, especially when going up

    Maybe there are some things behind the scenes of this challenge which aren't shown in this video, but it seems like it would have helped if you had consulted with current or former competitors, to understand the specific technical skills or strategy for these obstacles. This is something that you do for a lot of other challenges, and may have helped you to achieve your goals, or slightly modify the challenge to something more realistic. It would be great to see a part two where you consult some professionals!

    Im not entirely sure how to word this, but here goes: Your progress is impressive, it really shows how hard you are trying. With that said you seem to lack a little bit of inate athletic ability. Especially while running up the warped wall, you couldn't make the run to jump transfer as seemless as it needed to be. I do not mean this in a disrespectfull way, but rather as something to work on. Perhaps 30 days of gymnastics, or 30 days of freerun/parkour?
