Why some people are so stubborn about trashing Collins for his solo career. He had been recording Prog and Jazz Fusion for more than a decade. For Genesis, for Brand X and many times as an invited drummer. After all those albums and countless concerts he had every right to do whatever he pleased. Wheather it was Prog, ballads or Pop. Most musicians do their most important work within 5 to 10, 15 years. No more. Why keep calling Collins a sellout for what he was doing almost 20 years after Nursery cryme? Even when Gabriel didn´t really play any instrument (A flute sometimes), people give him a lot more credit in the Prog world. Why?. He abandoned Prog as early as 1975. After 1975, Collins recorded Trick, Wind, And Then, Duke and during those years Genesis offered a ridiculous huge number of concerts around the world. He was playing Prog live as late as 1983 in those Three sides live shows. That´s 8 years after Gabriel left (Gabriel was with Genesis only 6 years). He recorded as a drummer (with very little interest on being the face of the band) with Brand X just for the sake of playing complex drumming and fusion jazz. He recorded in the first Hackett album...man !, anyone would have had enough of playing Prog. By 1978 Prog had even a bad rep. Prog was out !. Collins was a big contributor Prog Rock.
prog is not a conditio sine qua non. that is, prog is not an absolute certificate for quality, it belongs to an era, the 70th. the term was applied because we had necessity to identify it. and fusion, that is jazz rock, and heavy metal and disco music, etcetera. all music is made on same basis, i can listen to massive attack and tangerine dream or robert wyatt, the who or vangelis, king crimson or talking heads, who found their common way. so stop with absolute retrograde mental old concepts about what must be quality or not without recognize it for your models
Collins was the magic sauce that helped progress Genesis even in the 70s IMO. He and Gabriel always seemed to have a rapport from the start. It needed someone extra to break the public school claustrophobia. Hackett was the other ingredient. Later, I think Rutherford and Banks had a lot to do with the pop sellout. They leaned on Phil's solo success to a large extent. Look what happened without Phil in 1998. Genesis completely flopped as pop or progressive. I would say though that Gabriel remained a "progressive" artist for a long time after he left Genesis, especially on PG3 & PG4. Though the meaning of progressive has to change, not as a copy of the early to mid 70s but moving further foward into synths, ssmpling and all other new technological advances. In the end, there is such a wealth of music in the Genesis universe, which is a good thing (as I enjoy FYFM and why not?) However, that second chorus and keyboard solo of Cinema Show and the middle of 11th Earl are the highlights for me.
@Progfan2010 Peter Gabriel plays a few instruments, he is a very good keyboard player( one of the reasons he had many spats with Tony Banks) and can play drums and many woodwind instruments.
My first Genesis concert wasthe Detroit stop on this tour. Wasgiven a free ticket, and hadn’t heard a single Genesis song EVER. Theshow changed my life. The next day i bought Seconds Out, tryna ng to recreate that concert experience. And oh man, still my favorite live album.
The genius of Genesis, is they never made the same album twice. The Music evolved from one release to the next pushing their own boundaries constantly. While also keeping in time with a current and updated sound.

Then Abacab following that was another departure. then Genesis with the geometrical signs on the album and the song Home By the sea was yet another new found sound. Not until Invisible touch and we Can't Dance were they FINALLY similar sounding. Lastly, Calling All Stations is just not Genesis a true Genesis album. Admit it. They're not AC DC Aerosmith or Kiss making the same album formula over and over again.
Genesis is best band ever. I still get goose bumps from some songs. It is good that Steve Hackett made this Genesis Revisited 2 tour so that we can live these moments also in this millenium.
The three best live bands in the 70's were Genesis, Yes, and Jethro Tull. All the rest were just followers of their success and live performance skills.
Isn't the mellotron just the best instrument ever? Awesome medieval sounds as well as more modern ones. Tony Banks got some brilliant sounds out of it that went with the period of music they were playing. And we are all eternally grateful for that
Yes I did, and did you also know that Robert Fripp told them that it was the very mellotron that they used when recording in the court of the crimson king? But he would say that wouldn't he? Lol, I know I would of done to clinch the sale

@@cjguy7111 Officially there were around 60`000 but about half an hour before they went on stage they opened the gates to let in the people who were outside with no tickets. Must have been a good few thousand. I was there in 92 and there were a hell of a lot more then, they were originally supposed to be 2 shows, Saturday & Sunday but they realised a few weeks earlier the crew couldn`t dismantle the set at Roundhay Park on the Friday and mantle it back up again for the show on Saturday. Tickets for both dates were sold out so they said anyone with a ticket for the Saturday show which was now cancelled could use them for the Sunday gig or have a refund. They made the arena bigger to hold the extra crowd. The show was televised live on Sky as well. Being a little greedy we went to Earls Court the following Thursday the show was so good!

Saw this show at Knebworth in June 1978. It was stupendous - my first ever concert. The Taurus bass pedals vibrated the ground and the air and the mellotron strings and choirs enveloped you.
This is a kind of time-machine bringing me back into 1978 when I heard Genesis live for the first time in my life. They were so monumental and magic that I was blown away. Thank you so much for sharing this video. 🥰
Me and my mates were at this gig. Drove from Allentown. PA. to get to it. Highlight being before the show started, we all snuck into the auditorium and was treated to a "soundcheck" performance before the start. GREAT memories!!!!
I had traveled back to Cbus in Jan 78 got stuck there because of the blizzard of 78. Started a job on groundhogs day at Industrial Nucleonics on Ackerman Rd & 315. Couldnt get off work for this show since I had just started. I made the Dayton show. This was the second time I had seen them. The first was at the Agora in Oct. 73. There was maybe 50 people there. I started school at OSU that fall. Grew up in Pittsburgh where Genesis was played on WZUM Sweet 16 high at the top of the dial. Ya AM radio. They had a license that required them to go off the air when the sun went down. I think WCOL 92.3 had a weird license too. They played religious stuff till 3:30 the rock n roll. Saw tons of bands during the 4 years most at the Agora. During 74 75 my room mate worked at tickettron at sears westland. We bought concert tickets half an hour before they went on sale. Usually dead center row 5. Zep the Who ELP so many I cant remember. Your post brought this all back. Thanks a bunch. Go Bucks.
I was at the Hara arena show too. Got wasted by the tornado. Then I saw him in Cincinnati. I actually met them and the grand opening of peaches records & tapes here, Saturday morning, the day of the show
Did not read your notes/description until after viewing the video, and was absolutely astonished to learn the audio was sourced from an entirely different show. Was thinking to myself throughout, 'How the hell did an 8mm camera record such amazingly clear audio?!' Now I know it didn't. The image/sound sync on this is incredible. Kudos! Additional shout out to Pete Shapter for bringing that 8mm camera of his to this show and filming so much of it, from all the different angles, and with such a steady hand. He didn't happen to attend the Yes concert with his 8mm that same year, April 11, at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena, did he? Some dude wasted out of his mind hopped up on stage that night, ran over to Jon Anderson, picked him up and gave him a bear hug during the finale of Awaken. The band stopped playing, the house lights went up, security swarmed the stage... Totally wild! Was there for that. Dying to see footage of that. This 1978 And Then There Were Three tour was my first for Genesis; 19 yrs. old back then. I was fortunate enough to have seen them this tour at Madison Square Garden, NYC, July 29, 1978 (the correct date if memory serves) the night Peter Gabriel, to everybody's surprise, came out on stage to assist Phil on the encore, I Know What I Like. Place went absolutely crazy! What a night, what a show, what a set! Seeing this brought back a lot of great memories. Thanks for the superb work you put into this; thanks for posting. Brilliant.
After watching this again for the first time since about 1,5 years, i am still surprised and happy as hell. You cannot imagine when i first read the comment from Pete about this show, i was the happiest young boy in the world i assume. All the work you have put in, i don't think that it could be better than this. Everytime i watch the performance of "11th Earl Of Mar" and "Los Endos" especially, i am nearly crying. Not because i have still never seen Genesis live in concert, but it is also because of the pure perfection Genesis had. Throughout all the time of my absence from the Genesis fanbase, i learned and listened to more different bands, prog bands, metal bands, dubstep and much more. But going back to this one, part of my past, of my life, i now feel what i have lost. Many hours of my life were just about Genesis, uploading live recordings as much and as good as i can. I did not do homework or met my friends. Instead, i would sit there and work on medleys, dubbing old Genesis films, preparing live recordings for uploading for hours,days, months... Somehow i miss this time, but more than that, i miss the music. I would listen to bootlegs in my bed and fall asleep, especially the 78 shows were my favourites. I had even dreamed of one of these concerts! 5 years ago, i wanted to recreate this tour as a film, but after watching this video so many times, i am not certain if i could ever top this one. However, many good and bad things happened in my life and Genesis and the fanbase is still the best thing that ever happened to me. I have met so many good people just because of this music, can't believe it either. At the moment i am just happy to rewatch One For The Vine and all the other classics again. I still need a time machine, does anyone have one?
I was at this show and you're right about security. We were early and in my Genesis t-shirt and a jean vest I walked right in for the sound check and was treated to Phil and a few roadies/gtr. techs?? play 'In the Air Tonight' way before it was recorded and released.The one bummer about that tour is nobody can get that instrumental break on 'Ripples' on film. It was so cool with Phil pounding the pedals down on the floor and the rainbow of colors in the 'stage smoke' and for whatever reason it won't show up on film. [at least none that I've seen] Thanks for your time and effort. A job well done!

@@GenesisMuseum I kept a lot of my ticket stubs from that era. I also own a book called: Genesis: I Know What I Like," which I think I bought in the UK in about 1980. I also saw Gabriel's first two U.S. live tours. Might have those ticket stubs too. Television was the opening act on the first tour.
Security definitely light at that show. After the show we wandered in corridors behind the stage and security and limo was outside the door and we were inside watching Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford walk towards us from up a ramp. Got their autographs on the "then there were three " poster. Stupidest thing I ever did was give it away after graduating from college 3 yrs later. Best concert experience ever for me. On the day of show we got normal price tickets for the eight row because they pulled some equipment from that spot.
Great reconstruction! Yeah I remember it all too well - I was age 17 back in 1978 and filming (with Super 8mm, since 16mm was way out of reach for many reasons - and non-pro video (VHS and the likes) was in its infancy and of ridiculously low quality and just plain ugly) was a passion of mine - even though I never was satisfied with the quality. Yep: looks like Kodak Ektachrome 160 (I did some rock concert footage myself on that film stock - at the request from the local band - with an expensive Beaulieu sound camera near the end of that format in 1881 - still disappointing results) - 160 (ASA speed) is still a very low speed by today's standards (for Super 8mm it was high speed - the much better standard stock was Kodachrome II and later the better 40, but way too slow - it needed a LOT of light). The problems were many: coarse film grain, blown out highlights (as can be seen here) and not much detail in the dark areas (it's called latitude: the way the film stock handles light intensity - just a mess on Ektachrome 160 reversal = the original camera footage actually yields a "positive image" - exactly like slides in stills photography - ready for projection). Add to that "ghost/halo" around objects and many other artifacts.... add to that the flimsy (sometimes unreliable) plastic cartridges of Super8mm and the often appearing infamous vertical blue scratch down the center (can be seen here) - this was actually a fault (never fixed by Kodak) during the film processing which took about a week back in the day! Oh well, those were the days. I'm sure there is some more image information in the film frames, but to squeeze it out it would need very expensive digital scanning - and I'm not sure if existing high quality scanners can handle the Super8mm film frame size. This is just to say that we hobby-filmmakers were very well aware of (and highly disappointed with) the results of our expensive hobby. The only good results were on sunny days - you got that gorgeous silky "film look". As we speak, any inexpensive modern digital camcorder yields way better results combined with long recording times. Imagine a time when bands were virtually unable to obtain good or even just any kinda acceptable footage of their own gigs unless a pro film (16mm or even better: 35mm) or a tv team with those huge monstrous professional color tube circuit tv cameras was hired and stage lighting changed accordingly! Now it's dead easy, even if it's only a few seconds on a cell phone. Still: any film snippet of '70s Genesis is pure gold - and the painstaking scanning/transfer and reconstruction work is very highly appreciated!!! Thanks a lot for uploading - and thanks for reading! My first rock concert...July 22, 1978 Civic Arena, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. An evening with Genesis. I have the newspaper clipping promoting the show, the ripped $6.75 ticket, the program, six reprinted 35mm photographs that my friend took as he walked around the arena during the show and still great memories burned into my brain. They didn't use the laser on Los Endos at that show...used it on One For The Vine, Ripples and I Know What I Like. They also played Ballad of Big, Scenes From a Nightsdream and The Fountain of Salmacis. Thank you very much for all involved in this and all who have been in to Genesis ...my first recollection was late 1973 when one of my older brothers bought Selling England by the Pound. I was young and got hooked. Thanks again!
This is just absolutely incredible. Stunning. I was too young to have attended this show, but got to see a number of these pieces in later tours, but never with some of these gems. Amazing. I had every LP they recorded, then I replaced them with CDS but You Tube is the best cause of videos, audios and when and where they performed is the ultimate. ...!!!
great to see the footage! 78' was the year i found genesis.......and sadly....then they slowly transformed into the pop/rock band in the 80's, but they kept the elements of prog which was good. never got to see them live, so this is a treat! many thanx.

never saw that before, nice footage!! keyboardwise this tour for me, appart from being the last tieh the mellotron, was also the only one with the arp 2600, wich sounds way better than the previous pro soloist, and even better than its replacement, the quadra. with a little bit of slow lfo on it, and the roland echo on it, it really is pure magic. wow
A really nice ARP2600 is in limited run right now for about 4 grand. I like the quadra better personally. The cinema show lead here is about a quarter the thickness of later versions.
I remember it well, Wind & Wuthering 77 was my first ever show, I remember it because of Steve Hackett & them doing Suppers Ready🎶, then this tour the following year it was dynamite, lights, sound, setlist the works ( I think this was the last tour Phil had that little stand up kit by Chester he would play ? ) by the time the Duke tour of. 80 came around Genesis was starting to get some airplay with “Misunderstanding”more so then Follow you Follow me But the crowd was still the die hard fans ( maybe more girls ) but still a great show, I mean its Genesis, then came the Abacab LP, we bought it of course, listened & partook in many bong hits as usual, but it had something new & different. Some of it I just couldn’t get into getting high like the spacier stuff of old, but I listened to it doing other things because by then cassettes were all the rage ( I still have from Tresspass to Three Sides Live on cassette cases & all ) Genesis on the go, they toured 81 we went and it was good, less of the old golden tunes we expected, but if music like any other living thing doesn’t grow then it corrodes and gets boring, now on the other hand I only made it to one more year of them Live, the Genesis LP tour of 82/83 , surprisingly it was freaking awesome, the stage lights & setlist was good, I happen to like Home by the Sea / 2nd Home by the Sea. To me ( my opinion) it’s the last good long song with solo music and a cool ass story behind it , GENESIS MUSIC LIKE SONG !!! Plus they hadn’t had Suppers Ready in the setlist since my first show in 77 and they did one hell of a job , I’m a Hackett fan thru and thru , love his work with them & on his own, but Daryl did a wonderful job with it 🎸 !!!!!! Well folks if your here and read this much ? THATS MY GENESIS STORY THRU & THRU ( All shows I attended were in the great city of PHILADELPHIA ❤️ )

Chester proved his worth in 1977 by holding down Supper’s Ready without missing a beat. Darell showed he was no slouch with his solo at the end of The Lady Lies. Both backup players came out to show their stuff right from their first tours.

You have to love Phil on the orchestral kit on the start of dance on a volcano 38:20 throw his stick to one of the orchestra kettles to hit the gong. 3 percussive kits plus the two drum kits.
I never thought I'd see or hear anything like this again, while sitting in the 4th row @ Merriweather Post Pavilion, during this tour in '78.. We met the band earlier that day at a Peaches record store in Rockville, Md., and I got my W&W album autographed.. Wonderful memories !! Thanks for all your hard work to put this together..
THIS FOOTAGE IS AWESOME!!! I saw the show three days later which became the famous Uptown show when the band ripped through Dance With the Moonlit Knight. Kinglerch has some of my photos. Daryl's playing was great and those mirrors were incredible !!! This tour marked the end of an era, after this the medleys started. Thanks again to Kinglerch for all the work involved in this project.
This may be ancient music but it's much better than actual music,specially related to prog rock, my favorite gender of music. Thanks a lot for uploading this trreasures.
And then there were Three and then, there was five again ( at least for live performances) . Personally this where Genesis really got going , great music earlier but , this is where they went stratospheric and even more magnificent.

These Genesis videos are awesome but don't compare to being there live. The live Genesis sound system was truly amazing. Genesis spared no expense on their concert sound equipment.

Genesis were one of the best bands ever they evolved over the years, I love ❤️ them with Gabriel,Hackett, and Collins and live they were fantastic

Saw this show at Knebworth in June 1978. It was stupendous - my first ever concert. The Taurus bass pedals vibrated the ground and the air and the mellotron strings and choirs enveloped you.
And Then there we three is a very under rated album

This is a kind of time-machine bringing me back into 1978 when I heard Genesis live for the first time in my life. They were so monumental and magic that I was blown away. Thank you so much for sharing this video. 🥰
Me and my mates were at this gig. Drove from Allentown. PA. to get to it. Highlight being before the show started, we all snuck into the auditorium and was treated to a "soundcheck" performance before the start. GREAT memories!!!!
I had traveled back to Cbus in Jan 78 got stuck there because of the blizzard of 78. Started a job on groundhogs day at Industrial Nucleonics on Ackerman Rd & 315. Couldnt get off work for this show since I had just started. I made the Dayton show. This was the second time I had seen them. The first was at the Agora in Oct. 73. There was maybe 50 people there. I started school at OSU that fall. Grew up in Pittsburgh where Genesis was played on WZUM Sweet 16 high at the top of the dial. Ya AM radio. They had a license that required them to go off the air when the sun went down. I think WCOL 92.3 had a weird license too. They played religious stuff till 3:30 the rock n roll. Saw tons of bands during the 4 years most at the Agora. During 74 75 my room mate worked at tickettron at sears westland. We bought concert tickets half an hour before they went on sale. Usually dead center row 5. Zep the Who ELP so many I cant remember.

I was at the Hara arena show too. Got wasted by the tornado. Then I saw him in Cincinnati. I actually met them and the grand opening of peaches records & tapes here, Saturday morning, the day of the show

Did not read your notes/description until after viewing the video, and was absolutely astonished to learn the audio was sourced from an entirely different show. Was thinking to myself throughout, 'How the hell did an 8mm camera record such amazingly clear audio?!' Now I know it didn't. The image/sound sync on this is incredible. Kudos! Additional shout out to Pete Shapter for bringing that 8mm camera of his to this show and filming so much of it, from all the different angles, and with such a steady hand. He didn't happen to attend the Yes concert with his 8mm that same year, April 11, at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena, did he? Some dude wasted out of his mind hopped up on stage that night, ran over to Jon Anderson, picked him up and gave him a bear hug during the finale of Awaken. The band stopped playing, the house lights went up, security swarmed the stage... Totally wild! Was there for that. Dying to see footage of that.
This 1978 And Then There Were Three tour was my first for Genesis; 19 yrs. old back then. I was fortunate enough to have seen them this tour at Madison Square Garden, NYC, July 29, 1978 (the correct date if memory serves) the night Peter Gabriel, to everybody's surprise, came out on stage to assist Phil on the encore, I Know What I Like. Place went absolutely crazy! What a night, what a show, what a set! Seeing this brought back a lot of great memories. Thanks for the superb work you put into this; thanks for posting. Brilliant.
After watching this again for the first time since about 1,5 years, i am still surprised and happy as hell.
You cannot imagine when i first read the comment from Pete about this show, i was the happiest young boy in the world i assume.
All the work you have put in, i don't think that it could be better than this.
Everytime i watch the performance of "11th Earl Of Mar" and "Los Endos" especially, i am nearly crying. Not because i have still never seen Genesis live in concert, but it is also because of the pure perfection Genesis had.
Throughout all the time of my absence from the Genesis fanbase, i learned and listened to more different bands, prog bands, metal bands, dubstep and much more.
But going back to this one, part of my past, of my life, i now feel what i have lost.
Many hours of my life were just about Genesis, uploading live recordings as much and as good as i can. I did not do homework or met my friends. Instead, i would sit there and work on medleys, dubbing old Genesis films, preparing live recordings for uploading for hours,days, months...
Somehow i miss this time, but more than that, i miss the music. I would listen to bootlegs in my bed and fall asleep, especially the 78 shows were my favourites.
I had even dreamed of one of these concerts!
5 years ago, i wanted to recreate this tour as a film, but after watching this video so many times, i am not certain if i could ever top this one.
However, many good and bad things happened in my life and Genesis and the fanbase is still the best thing that ever happened to me. I have met so many good people just because of this music, can't believe it either.
At the moment i am just happy to rewatch One For The Vine and all the other classics again. I still need a time machine, does anyone have one?

Man. I was 14 and living in Columbus at this time. I'd never even heard of Genesis. If I could only go back in time...
I was at this show and you're right about security. We were early and in my Genesis t-shirt and a jean vest I walked right in for the sound check and was treated to Phil and a few roadies/gtr. techs?? play 'In the Air Tonight' way before it was recorded and released.The one bummer about that tour is nobody can get that instrumental break on 'Ripples' on film. It was so cool with Phil pounding the pedals down on the floor and the rainbow of colors in the 'stage smoke' and for whatever reason it won't show up on film. [at least none that I've seen] Thanks for your time and effort. A job well done!

@@GenesisMuseum I kept a lot of my ticket stubs from that era. I also own a book called: Genesis: I Know What I Like," which I think I bought in the UK in about 1980.
I also saw Gabriel's first two U.S. live tours. Might have those ticket stubs too. Television was the opening act on the first tour.
Saw them July 27, 1978 at Hampton Coliseum in VA. Sat on the front row, right in front of Daryl Steurmer

Security definitely light at that show. After the show we wandered in corridors behind the stage and security and limo was outside the door and we were inside watching Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford walk towards us from up a ramp. Got their autographs on the "then there were three " poster.
Stupidest thing I ever did was give it away after graduating from college 3 yrs later.
Best concert experience ever for me. On the day of show we got normal price tickets for the eight row because they pulled some equipment from that spot.
Tony Banks has always been one of my keyboard idols. He is ON FIRE in this collection of concert clips!

Apparently, it didn't work so well live and was consequently dropped from the setlist. I would be surprised if they'd played it more than five times.

Great reconstruction! Yeah I remember it all too well - I was age 17 back in 1978 and filming (with Super 8mm, since 16mm was way out of reach for many reasons - and non-pro video (VHS and the likes) was in its infancy and of ridiculously low quality and just plain ugly) was a passion of mine - even though I never was satisfied with the quality. Yep: looks like Kodak Ektachrome 160 (I did some rock concert footage myself on that film stock - at the request from the local band - with an expensive Beaulieu sound camera near the end of that format in 1881 - still disappointing results) - 160 (ASA speed) is still a very low speed by today's standards (for Super 8mm it was high speed - the much better standard stock was Kodachrome II and later the better 40, but way too slow - it needed a LOT of light). The problems were many: coarse film grain, blown out highlights (as can be seen here) and not much detail in the dark areas (it's called latitude: the way the film stock handles light intensity - just a mess on Ektachrome 160 reversal = the original camera footage actually yields a "positive image" - exactly like slides in stills photography - ready for projection). Add to that "ghost/halo" around objects and many other artifacts.... add to that the flimsy (sometimes unreliable) plastic cartridges of Super8mm and the often appearing infamous vertical blue scratch down the center (can be seen here) - this was actually a fault (never fixed by Kodak) during the film processing which took about a week back in the day! Oh well, those were the days. I'm sure there is some more image information in the film frames, but to squeeze it out it would need very expensive digital scanning - and I'm not sure if existing high quality scanners can handle the Super8mm film frame size. This is just to say that we hobby-filmmakers were very well aware of (and highly disappointed with) the results of our expensive hobby. The only good results were on sunny days - you got that gorgeous silky "film look". As we speak, any inexpensive modern digital camcorder yields way better results combined with long recording times.
Imagine a time when bands were virtually unable to obtain good or even just any kinda acceptable footage of their own gigs unless a pro film (16mm or even better: 35mm) or a tv team with those huge monstrous professional color tube circuit tv cameras was hired and stage lighting changed accordingly! Now it's dead easy, even if it's only a few seconds on a cell phone.
Still: any film snippet of '70s Genesis is pure gold - and the painstaking scanning/transfer and reconstruction work is very highly appreciated!!! Thanks a lot for uploading - and thanks for reading! P.S. thanks a lot for the comprehensive description of the Super 8 footage.
My first rock concert...July 22, 1978 Civic Arena, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. An evening with Genesis. I have the newspaper clipping promoting the show, the ripped $6.75 ticket, the program, six reprinted 35mm photographs that my friend took as he walked around the arena during the show and still great memories burned into my brain. They didn't use the laser on Los Endos at that show...used it on One For The Vine, Ripples and I Know What I Like. They also played Ballad of Big, Scenes From a Nightsdream and The Fountain of Salmacis. Thank you very much for all involved in this and all who have been in to Genesis ...my first recollection was late 1973 when one of my older brothers bought Selling England by the Pound. I was young and got hooked. Thanks again!
This is just absolutely incredible. Stunning. I was too young to have attended this show, but got to see a number of these pieces in later tours, but never with some of these gems. Amazing. Thank you for your efforts - you have a bazillion incredibly thankful Genesis fans sitting here enjoying your herculean efforts in weaving this together.

I had every LP they recorded, then I replaced them with CDS but You Tube is the best cause of videos, audios and when and where they performed is the ultimate. ...!!!

great to see the footage! 78' was the year i found genesis.......and sadly....then they slowly transformed into the pop/rock band in the 80's, but they kept the elements of prog which was good. never got to see them live, so this is a treat! many thanx.

never saw that before, nice footage!! keyboardwise this tour for me, appart from being the last tieh the mellotron, was also the only one with the arp 2600, wich sounds way better than the previous pro soloist, and even better than its replacement, the quadra. with a little bit of slow lfo on it, and the roland echo on it, it really is pure magic. wow
frk75 do you know how to get to that sound? i've been trying on the arp2600 vst but culdn't figure it out
A really nice ARP2600 is in limited run right now for about 4 grand. I like the quadra better personally. The cinema show lead here is about a quarter the thickness of later versions.

I was there,, 2nd time for this tour as I had seen them in Cleve.
amazing so glad I found this...my first concert was this tour in Rochester NY...what an amazing sound...so fresh and deep!
Saw this in Los Angeles earlier in the same year (April). 1st and unfortunately the last time.
I remember it well, Wind & Wuthering 77 was my first ever show, I remember it because of Steve Hackett & them doing Suppers Ready🎶, then this tour the following year it was dynamite, lights, sound, setlist the works ( I think this was the last tour Phil had that little stand up kit by Chester he would play ? ) by the time the Duke tour of. 80 came around Genesis was starting to get some airplay with “Misunderstanding”more so then Follow you Follow me But the crowd was still the die hard fans ( maybe more girls ) but still a great show, I mean its Genesis, then came the Abacab LP, we bought it of course, listened & partook in many bong hits as usual, but it had something new & different. Some of it I just couldn’t get into getting high like the spacier stuff of old, but I listened to it doing other things because by then cassettes were all the rage ( I still have from Tresspass to Three Sides Live on cassette cases & all ) Genesis on the go, they toured 81 we went and it was good, less of the old golden tunes we expected, but if music like any other living thing doesn’t grow then it corrodes and gets boring, now on the other hand I only made it to one more year of them Live, the Genesis LP tour of 82/83 , surprisingly it was freaking awesome, the stage lights & setlist was good, I happen to like Home by the Sea / 2nd Home by the Sea. To me ( my opinion) it’s the last good long song with solo music and a cool ass story behind it , GENESIS MUSIC LIKE SONG !!! Plus they hadn’t had Suppers Ready in the setlist since my first show in 77 and they did one hell of a job , I’m a Hackett fan thru and thru , love his work with them & on his own, but Daryl did a wonderful job with it 🎸 !!!!!! Well folks if your here and read this much ? THATS MY GENESIS STORY THRU & THRU ( All shows I attended were in the great city of PHILADELPHIA ❤️ )

Chester proved his worth in 1977 by holding down Supper’s Ready without missing a beat. Darell showed he was no slouch with his solo at the end of The Lady Lies. Both backup players came out to show their stuff right from their first tours.
That was one of the reasons I watched this. ‘78 was the last year.

I never thought I'd see or hear anything like this again, while sitting in the 4th row @ Merriweather Post Pavilion, during this tour in '78.. We met the band earlier that day at a Peaches record store in Rockville, Md., and I got my W&W album autographed.. Wonderful memories !! Thanks for all your hard work to put this together..

These Genesis videos are awesome but don't compare to being there live. The live Genesis sound system was truly amazing. Genesis spared no expense on their concert sound equipment.
