I am glad to see someone showing the life in these little overlooked holes. I have 21 years in the state conservation department and the places where we have found fish living is always a head scratcher.
Fish eggs get stuck to the legs and feet of birds walking along the banks of lakes and streams and then are deposited in other water sources, like retention ponds etc.
I think its the fact that they are overlooked that gives them life. heavily urbanised environments (which can often lead to pollution and contaminants leaking into the river) and overfishing can be quite detrimental to fish stocks - even if you do catch and release there are a lot who dont. some fish just manage to find places where nobody can touch them or fishes there and thrive even if the overall quality of water isnt that great.
@@sampson8023 lol i was thinking the same thing after watching some videos of how people fawn over carp there. its weird how here they are treated as something banal while there they are seen in the same way bass is here.
Carp are put in ditches and creeks to keep vegetation eaten down and the waterway unobstructed. An unobstructed drainage ditch means no flooding, but, don’t let that stop your netting them for bait.
For those of you who have never eaten carp you are missing out on some of the best fish I've ever eaten. My neighbor was from Iraq he went fishing and carp is what he brought home.
