- So, back in '97, I teamed up with Ray Stevens to create the "God is God" video. I licensed "The Color of Pomegranates," a movie by Sergei Parajanov. One of Martin Scorsese’s top ten films.
I got together with Nick Burton to write this track. An amazing percussionist and he's also the eyes behind the designs for some of Juno Reactor's singles and album covers, like "Bible of Dreams" and "Labyrinth." We probably finished it around the first album "Transmissions," but it just didn't fit with the themes of those early albums. It wasn't until "Bible of Dreams" that Greg Hunter, a great engineer and producer, mixed it.
A funny thing is that when God Is God dropped, it blew up on MTV's late-night dance shows and caught the eye of Alice Cooper and Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey's husband, Tommy Mattola CEO of Sony Records, even hit up my manager, Mick Paterson, wanting me to direct Mariah's next video. I said no. First off, I have too much respect for Sergei Parajanov and his original work. Plus, directing a big-budget video! All I'd ever done was Super 8 stuff. And honestly, making a video for a big star didn’t feel right. Even after Tommy insisted, I said no.
Big shoutout to Mike Stanton for syncing up the footage and edits with an upscaled film version. The old one was kinda blurry...

You beat me by 2 years, lol. Some new college friends introduced me to Bible of Dreams in 1997. They called it stadium house. In hindsight, I feel like that was a grossly inaccurate label for this music, but it piqued my interest. To this day, Juno Reactor is one of my favorite musicians / groups of all time.

This is a masterpiece. I first saw it on Polish TV in 1997 and was truly amazed by the psychedelic vibe. Then I saw Parajanov's film and I was even more impressed.

I cannot remember the first time I heard Juno Reactor, it might have been on a compilation but I'll never forget the sonic joy I get from repeated listens to all Ben's albums & mixes.
Absolutely pivotal to my vast music collection and will get repeated sessions, as they are such magnificient tunes. Not a bad album amongst them! ❤

You performed live in San Francisco (2003-ish?) with an African band, who were chanting and dancing. I remember them and the entire audience chanting along to "Pistolero", then you stopping the beat, getting out an electric guitar, starting the beat again, and shredding along to the rest of the song. I always wondered if that moment was improvised. It's still one of the best shows I've ever seen!
We improvise a lot, turn off the electronics, and Jam, for my fav moments, where the edge of it all falling down is, is a beautiful spot, like on a cliff at sunrise, I remember it well

God is God is pure masterpiece. I've been to the 2014 concert in Warsaw's Progresja and I had such a blast. Me and my friend got so lucky that coming into the club we encountered Ben Watkins going out for a smoke and talked to him! He is such a lovable guy and showed empathy and nothing but patience talking to two youngster fans outside the Progresja club, hah. Still got the autographs and commemorative photo. Best day ever.

I always envisioned the images being crazy wheel in wheel angels with all the eyes on them around the bright throne of God with all sorts of crazy looking angels flying around really quick with smoke, and clouds and lightening shooting everywhere. Lots of crazy moving parts of unrecognizable objects.

I saw you back at Seattle RCKNDY on your tour with Moby in the 90’s. You guys way upstaged him and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I saw you with Amampondo again in Seattle in 2021 and I was really pregnant but I still danced the whole time! My daughter is 22 now and she’s a huge fan also! We are moving to Rome in a few years and don’t stop enchanting the masses. I need to experience a show again, it’s been too long.

The Thieving bastards of Liabach 😀 I loved that they put out a cover version first, I love their music, i had a nice time with Ivan in Slovenia, went to the town they came from, a mining town, we went up to the top of the Mountain, and drank some strong drink and toasted his dads resting place, from their you can see for miles, and many other countries in the distance.

I watched this so many times and eventually it made me to purchase the sampled movie DVD. The movie was too artistic for me to understand, but I still like it.
I am more of a metal kind of guy but I really like Juno Reactor's techno. Most techno I've heard is very uncreative.
