    You have a super collection of koi Dave and the growth they have achieved in less than 12 months is a credit to you, well done👏👍. Already looking forward to next years version of this video😊👍

      Thanks Phil, 🙂
      I've been very impressed with the saki food this year.
      Hopefully i'll get a fish to break the 70cm barrier next year lol 👍

      I've been very happy with how they have grown, particularly the nisai I bought this year.
      They've scoffed there way through about 35-40 kgs of saki food in 6 months. 🐷

    Good morning Dave. I started watching this on my phone then I said no no, it has to be watched on the big screen and that's what I did. Great show. Very professional. Loved it. Thanks!

      It turned out to be a lot more hard work than I thought lol 😄
      I could have done with an extra pair of hands...

      I can't believe you did this by yourself and it was you first time! A lot of hard work but I'm sure it's a video to treasure.

      They are a bit of a mixed bag, 😁
      but I tend to just buy what appeals and catches my eye at the time.
      The growth I can only put down to the Saki, never had such good growth and colour...

    Some nice growth Dave. Nice to see your fish up close. Not a fan of shiro utsuri, but I must say, yours is impressive. Really nice body and head and pattern and seems to have a nice skin. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed that.

      Showas and Utsuri's are my favorite patterns.
      But i'm also starting to really like kawarimono and hikarimuji fish as well.

    Have you heated your pond during the summer? As if they were grown in Japan or better!!!

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Atsumi, Thanks,🙂
      Yes mate, they were heated to 25C all summer... June, July, and August, 👍

    • @atsuminaoki9910

      @@DavesKoiPond I knew it was so. With results like these, isn't setting up a winter feeding rest period an option?

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@atsuminaoki9910 Yes it is an option, though I don't feed a lot through the winter anyway, about 2kg last year from November to April.
      And as Andy Moo advocated in his 'how to grow koi big' videos 13 years ago, though that was adjusted for the American climate.
      But it depends on temperature, last winter with no heating my pond didn't go below 12C, so I fed occasionally.
      If it drops below 8C - 10C this year then I would probably stop feeding for a while. 🙂

    • @atsuminaoki9910
      @atsuminaoki9910 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DavesKoiPond In the experience of various people in Japan, once feeding has been interrupted, it is better not to resume until the temperature returns sufficiently the following spring. There seem to be two options: either continue feeding a little at a time or stop altogether.

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@atsuminaoki9910 I can see the sound reasoning behind those practise's Atsumi. 🙂
      As the filter bacteria will decrease significantly once feeding stops at low temperatures, and cannot quickly respond to increased feeding.
      But in the wild, carp will feed sporadically throughout winter when temperature and conditions allow.
      I think our climate is more unpredictable than yours, being at the mercy of both the gulf stream, and polar jet stream.
      If we were guaranteed subzero temperatures for long periods every winter, most would adopt this approach.
      And If temperatures plummeted like they did in 2010 then I too would stop feeding altogether.
      But in mild winters like last year, I fed small amounts all the way through...👍
