Thought I should pin a comment and explain that when I said I'd be making this a series, I meant I'd be doing different things that I've never done before in each episode. So in this episode it was baking bread, in the next one it could be trading stocks, and the one after that it could be cage fighting. I'm interested in trying different side hustles that other people try on TH-cam, so those will likely feature. Hope that's cool with you all! I just want a way of keeping the channel fresh and consistent because sometimes it's hard to get tiny house tours up every single week. Thanks for watching! :)
@George Dunnett -- George, about your cat in general and in videos specifically. Cats like to be involved and connected to you. They want to smell everything you touch and use. LET HIM. Offer the spoon, your flour-covered finger, the bowl, the towel, the package of yeast and what's inside. Cats want to k-nose about everything. The best relationship with cats I've seen on TH-cam are Jun Yoshizuki and his wife Rachel. They discovered that including their cats eliminated bad behaviours, in the same way that a (TALL) rope-wrapped pillar to allow healthy self-grooming, by pulling off the outer layers of their claws, eliminated damage to other structures. If you offer, they won't just take. Watch a few of Jun's Kitchen.
I feel the same. It's your "take" on the subject that's entertaining. That crack you made about "catching crabs" on your Scotland trip almost went right by me! And I don't point that out to say that you should always be funny - that's too difficult. You can talk about whatever.
The words ever and green only reflect me, and cannot be misused in names, and must be edited out! Also, these recipes should have been made plant-based to avoid buying beyond sakryIegyuz products such as dairy / eggs / meats etc that involve the btg of mammaIz and the _ing of birds / chickens! The plant-based versions are also good for hth and for nature, and they taste great!
As a bread person (half bread, half person), the bread loaf looks better than you think. You actually shaped it well, but you're right, it does have a higher liquid amount, which will make a flatter loaf no matter how you shape it. You may have slightly overproved it (it looks over doubled in size) but I can tell by all the bubbles inside, light texture, and the crust color, it looks great! Especially for a first time bread bake.
Holy moly. 😳 As a great granny closer to 80 than 70 I'm thoroughly impressed. I've fed a family for lo these many years but still quake at the idea of trying to bake new stuff. That home ec teacher in 1956 first form terrified me and the effect on my confidence has lingered lifelong. Bravo, well done and all that. 😊👍
I love how your videos always have such a homey vibe. Like it’s a video made for the individual viewer. Maybe it’s the lack of BGM, the low lights , your calm personality and the tiny house… I really like that
Georgie, brother. A fee things went wrong with the pain au raisin. 1. The butter should be thin which you can press on the pastry and the fold over and start again so you build-up layers. 2. Try using pastry flour as it will mix with the butter to make a croissant like texture. Bread flour is tough and better for bread. 3. Raisins should always be soaked first in a sugar water or rum and sugar thats been reduced on a stove. Other than the above you did a fantastic job. Try again and perfect your recipe. Looking forward to watching version 2.
I think you did a brilliant job for a first go. As a 53 year old who cooks a lot of all varieties of stuff watching you try these out is inspirational. Hopefully your video will encourage other young people to try home cooking and baking out in this throwaway takeaway junk food society in which we live. Also narrating where you may have made errors is a brilliant idea as that will help others if they are trying to cook the same food.
Your bread may be a 7/10 but the video was definitely a 10/10! You are genuinely so relaxing to listen too. Keep up the good work, you made my Wednesday. Thank you!
Hi George! I've told you once and I'll say again: do whatever you want. You're such a nice guy that it is always good and relaxing to watch you doing what you're doing. Keep trying new things. By the way, my mouth is watering. See you next video.
As a baker of more than 50 years' experience, I think you did unusually well for your first tries. Especially, if your raisin buns tasted as good as they looked (I wanted to reach out and grab one!), you get full marks in my estimation. Besides, the mark of a truly creative person is the ability to improvise when things don't go quite according to plan. (You can cook for me any time 😉) I love all your videos, and am looking forward to the next "first" !!
Subscribed for the tiny house to support your channel, but would watch whatever you want to try on your channel. You’re easy to watch/listen to and you do make me chuckle. I’m looking forward to seeing your TH-cam success increase, because it definitely will 😊
George, everything about this is perfect: shots, editing, wry humor (very wry), subject, end results BUT as others are saying - you could do fucking anything and it would be fabulous! You got the GIFT, son! I'm still LOLing and after going through hurricane Ian last week - I'm Grateful! - thanx
George, I just love you. I love your ability to be you even when you aren't sure entirely what you are doing. I am inspired. Thanks for making your videos.
You might try felting. I gave my cats my early felting projects to destroy for me rather than holding on to another decorative object. I'd even wrap a bell into the first piece of wool to make it make noise. The cats will make little tufts of wool come off like tumbleweeds, but it's nice to know there isn't catnip in it unless you add it yourself.
Hey George, I think you did a pretty good job but next time please try to use the passata to make the sauce for your pizza. Mix in a bowl the passata with some salt, olive oil and oregano ( you can also add your hot spices) and then pour everything on your pizza, but please do not use the tomato puree. I am Italian and seeing the tomato puree on pizza is like having a heart attack 😂😂😂. Ciao from Sardinia 😘
Another enjoyable video. Food is always a winner! I also realized why I enjoy your videos. You don’t come across as a fast talking hustler. And these videos are about your journey.
It was great to see and a great effort, but it kind of hurt to watch you kneading the pain au raisin - my Grandma instilled baking knowledge in my whole family, and I could feel many stern voices shouting "be gentle"!
I give you a 10 out of 10 for trying something so complicated for a beginner. Keep at it George as learning to cook is incredibly rewarding, and practice makes perfect.
Please definitely do an episode of all the foods you've never tried..! I'll start you off: Haggis, sushi, avocado ice cream... I'm going to try that sandwich but with Cuban bread in a panini press. Also - imperfect pastry trumps no pastry any day. 🙃
You have such a calming voice, I find you very relaxing to listen to. Plus, I love your humor! You should look into doing longer length videos/stories that people could listen to while going to sleep. Of course, I would go back the next day, and watch what I missed! Good luck on your life’s journey!
George, you have the hands of a true artist! I admire not only your willingness to experience what you've never experienced before, but also your candor and humility of what you were attempting to accomplish. Everything was jolly good...I'd estimate that if you chose baking/cooking as a career, you'd be standing right alongside the most famous of those on The Great British Bakeoff. Thank you for sharing the journey!!
Bravo for giving it all a try! I think most all of it turned out great. Your kitten Junior is adorable, would like to see more cameos of her in your videos.
Hahah the same thing happens here with Bake Off. Fairly sure the supermarkets released data a while back that showed when the new episodes come out, sales of ingredients don't go up but sales at the bakery counters do.
if this was really your first time baking then you‘re clearly an incredibly quick study and have a natural aptitude for it. well done! as for the pastry dough: yes, the butter distribution was a problem. personally i find shaving frozen butter onto parchment and then pressing it into the exact shape needed to yield the best, most uniform results. the pastries looked really pretty and appetizing though, so you definitely managed to save them. this was such a fun video to watch! and junior made an appearance, so ❤! when our cats are „waving“ like that they want to see what it is that we are handling. so, next time, maybe let her look at whatever you‘re holding in your hand. already looking forward to your next video - whatever that might be. though i‘m kind of hoping it‘ll feature your adorable cat and adorable house… lots of love from austria! mc
Go you! I’d never be brave enough to share my first attempt at bread or pastry with the big wide world. They both still intimidate me. Those pastries look so good. I look forward to seeing what your next new adventure entails. A wave back to Junior too. 🐱
You are honestly the most relaxing TH-camr to watch. I woke up in the throes of a panic attack and this video calmed me right down. Like other commenters I find your videos súper easy to watch. I think it’s your tone of voice? I don’t know.. but thank you!!
Greetings from the U.S. George! I watched some of your other videos and I agree with some of the other comments on here. I enjoy the sound of your voice. You're very soft spoken and your voice is soothing to hear. Thank you for sharing. Keep the great content coming.
Everything you baked looked so scrumptous! You have a natural talent for cooking that's above many others. I especially liked how your pizza turned out!
I'm not your parent, but I would give you very high marks for all three of these bakes! All three look beautiful and appear to be delicious. I haven't eaten meat for 100s of years, but your childhood sandwich even looks and sounds good. Sweet wave from your kitty!
I'm glad to see ya trying new things~ Even if you mess up, you end up learning something from it and will improve your skills working on the next batch using that new knowledge! - Sincerely, a person who's has had messed up a sponge cake and a focaccia in the past 2 weeks lol.
Hey George, as a Swede... Your own sandwich-cake seems a hell of a lot more appetizing than a traditional Smörgås-tårta. Sure there are versions of it that are more palatable than others, but personally it would always make me dry-heave. Nice to see you trying out new things btw, you do you. It's just nice to see your vids and listen to your voice.
I know this video was a departure from your usual fare but it was very interesting to see your baking attempts. Looking forward to the next in the series!
George, you're simply a wonderfull human being which never seem to stop inspiriting all of us :) The fact that you're sooo super switched on and try to always improve your lifestyle is incredible ... Love the fact that your gorgeous little cat is so always around you too :) Pizza looks yummy and the Pain aux Raisins turned out great so don't be to hard on yourself LOL indeed.
Love the new content and I’m looking forward to seeing what you do next! I think your bakes came out really great, especially considering it’s not something you’ve done before. The Great British Baking Show is one of my favorite shows as well. It’s like a guilty pleasure 😊
that’s such a nice video it gave me off a cartoon comfort christmas energy for some reason and just made me less anxious i almost got to sleep remembered my childhood a bit and teared up but in a good way hahha thank you for posting something like that the high quality shots with good light and a good sounding voice without noises was also great!
My ears pricked up when Sweden was mentioned. Indeed, the picture is a Sandwichcake, Smörgåstårta, it varies greatly, but traditionally it's like.. Layer of white bread, eggmash, hams, mayo, 'leverpastej', oh gosh what is that called.. Liverpaste, topped with shrimps, vegetables like tomato, lettuce, cucumbers and slices of cheese. But people can make it with whatever they want. A midsummer cake is also an actual thing, though on midsummer we usually have a Strawberry cake of sorts. Spongecake layers, cream, vanilla custard and/or jam, topped with.. A lot of whipped cream and more strawberries. But people make strawberry cheesecakes and a lot of various things. It was a fun episode, you're pleasant to listen to. Always nice to make something yourself. Have a lovely day!
Really enjoyed this! Looked wonderful. I've messed up SO many recipes in my 60 years! But I never really regretted it; because I learned more from them than I did the recipes ❤! Great job
Enjoyed the video!:) Just a bit of friendly advice - if that was a non stick pot used for heating up the milk - non stick cookware and metal utensils don’t go together because the metal scrapes off the non stick coating and that poses a health hazard. Use wooden utensils or in the case of using a whisk, use another type of pot.
Very nice video 👍👌. If it was possible could we see more of your cute cat 😂 idk it's really relaxing watching you do your things while your cat stays in the background. Keep up the great work. You've just earned a follower. 😉
I gotta say, I've been trying to make croissants, and had the same issue with butter leaking out, but your way of cooking them directly on a grate was ingenious! And they look yummy
It's your calmness that I love. I'm binging all your videos now. A+ on the baking although the bread did look like one of those heads on Easter Island. How about taking us to the shops in your town? I love to see the differences between countries. I'm from the USA.
Hi Georgie . One: I agree with the several comments that commented on the soothing quality of your voice. You should consider reading books aloud. There are some sites that ask for volunteers. You could do just your own, as while other sites are just one petson reading their personal favorites. We could enjoy your voice, your dramatic skills as well as learn about you choices in literature.. I'm sure all of your fans would enjoy your reading. Two. This video idea is great. Amateur cooking is fun to watch. Mistakes happen to all of us. It's the reason we're amateurs. But, as the saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in the pie. You didn't grimace as you tasted your own cooking, so that's reward enough. Do it again!!! Three...I'm going to check out that Andy fellow's music channel. If you read this Andy, keep in mind, it pays to advertise!!! Four. Gee, Georgie, I like to make little endearing jokes in my comments to you. As I haven't done so yet, get ready, because here it comes!!! A drum roll please!!! While watching you kneeding the dough, I noticed that your hands were slender and your fingers long. I'm surprised that you weren't encouraged to become a doctor, because... You have the hands of a sturgeon !!!! Gee, I'm a laugh riot, Georgie, a laugh riot. I hope you didn't gall off your chair laughing so hard!!! Anyway, have a happy day. Keep the videos coming.
Love this George!! You can do anything you want, and I will always enjoy it ~ your sense of humor always grabs me ~ I just love you!!!! You mentioned a cat video you had done about your cat? I do not know how I missed that one??? I'm a kitty person, so would have loved it!!! have a wonderful day! I love you.
Great Job, everything looked fantastic! I'm middle aged & still a bit intimidated with making bread. What you did was very impressive and inspirational.. you've got me thinking I need to give it another go.
Well done George. These were three first class attempts at baking. All looked very tasty. The only thing I would mention is not to use metal spoons, or in this case, the whisk on your lovely non-stick pots. Either wooden or rubberised spoons and a rubberised whisk. I’ve made this error before and this scrapes off the Teflon. However, this didn’t detract from your lovely culinary efforts. Just wondered if you ever watched Nicolas Fairford’s channel from Edinburgh. He bulks out his videos with baking or cooking and that could be added to a day he shows you how to dust his apartment, apply his makeup, make his bed, makes afternoon tea etc !! It shows that any household chores etc can be watchable.
Thought I should pin a comment and explain that when I said I'd be making this a series, I meant I'd be doing different things that I've never done before in each episode. How about sewing a little patchwork quilt for Junior to sleep on?
As long as Junior is in the video I’m glued to the screen😍 you have a very calm harmonious voice, bet you’d be a success reading audiobooks.📚

Just brilliant* :-)
how about doing a tour of a local whiskey distillery?
You can talk about whatever. I just find you relaxing to listen to and your dry sense of humor cracks me up.
Appreciate ya!
💯

That's pretty cool you're a tech savvy granny on YT! My granny is suffering from dementia and hasn't even hit 70 yet...sigh
@@mariomaro7 fr man. This grandma is cool for sure
Haha thank you! Aw my home ec teacher was horrible as well!
@@Patchy
Don't let that teacher hold you back. Try baking anything you want. Someone had to teach school teachers too you know. You did great!
I love how your videos always have such a homey vibe.
Like it’s a video made for the individual viewer.
Maybe it’s the lack of BGM, the low lights , your calm personality and the tiny house… I really like that
Thank you! I appreciate it. :)
Your cat wanted the faucet dripping. They love that!
Georgie, brother. A fee things went wrong with the pain au raisin.

Looking forward to this new series!
I tell you this, it was a struggle trying to get her down from the worktop at points when I had my hands covered in dough haha.
Worthy of a Hollywood hand shake... be proud... you did good xx
Hahah thanks Ruth.
A cat update would be cool to see 😀
Your baking was fantastic!
I'm planning on making one in a month or so :)
Subscribed for the tiny house to support your channel, but would watch whatever you want to try on your channel. You’re easy to watch/listen to and you do make me chuckle. I’m looking forward to seeing your TH-cam success increase, because it definitely will 😊

Finding this relaxing to watch
Glad to hear it!
First I thought: "Huh, weird video." Then I noticed that I enjoy every type of video you upload, regardless of the content lol
Haha thank you.

Learning how to cook opens a whole new world for eating. I hope you keep at it. People are always happy to get something homemade.
Interesting dough-slapping technique! Grand effort, friend. We live and we learn. And it seems you are a natural-born baker. Bravo! 😉

Bake #2 looked positively delicious! Good job👏
Your videos are amazing. They’re like a gentle, humorous balm for my stressed-out mind. Thank you.
The loaf of bread looks great!

Haha thank you.

I have no idea why your video popped up on my feed, but I'm glad it did. Nice to hang with you George.
Haha cheers Anthony!
You did a great job! Learning to do something you've never done, AND doing it while posting it online is a big deal. I love your sense of humor. 😂❤
Great video. Really liked watching. Thank you for sharing. Have a nice week 😊
Well done, you!! You did a fantastic job. I’d love to have popped in for afternoon tea. Everything was wonderful 👍❣️
Your cat is such a character 😂
She is! I'm honestly so glad I got her.
Have a lovely day!
id love to see more cooking and baking content like this video!!
Loved this!! Thank you for the smile and the nudge to keep trying new things.
Really enjoyed this! Looked wonderful. I've messed up SO many recipes in my 60 years! But I never really regretted it; because I learned more from them than I did the recipes ❤! Great job
New record time to cat tax - on screen at start of video. A+, a true innovator :D
Haha I'll try and include her in every video as an easter egg.
Enjoyed the video!:)
Just a bit of friendly advice - if that was a non stick pot used for heating up the milk - non stick cookware and metal utensils don’t go together because the metal scrapes off the non stick coating and that poses a health hazard.
I really like these baking episodes and would love to see you try things you've never tried before!
omg i'm in loaf with your channel
That loaf of bread looks perfect! Good baking 😊 I think ANY subject you do on video would be great!

Great video and concept/drive - excited for the next one!
I think you did a great job saving those buns, was very creative! As a Dane (we eat a lot of pastries), I'd definitely eat those.
Thank you!!
I love your slappy bread kneading technique!!
I think you did great! They look wonderful.
great video, so relaxing just what i needed this week, thank you❤️
Everything looked good! Would love to see different kinds of vids. Great idea!
Thank you! :)
Proving Chef Gusteau’s ‘anyone can cook’ to be true… 🧑🏼🍳🤌🏼
Such a calming voice, I could listen to you read from a phone book 😊
Your hands were made to kneed dough my friend. Beautiful to look at.
Thanks Rita! And aw give it another go!
