In today's video, I go over my personal finances, revealing what I spent per month (typically) as a 29-year-old living in Scotland whilst working as a self-employed TH-camr. I quite often watch videos like this from other creators where they share 'how much they spent in a week, living in London', or 'how much it costs to live in NYC', so I thought I'd throw out my own version, going over how much it costs to live in Scotland.
To make my videos I use…

Hey I'm also trying to hit a billion subscribers but I am a Lil behind you 😂
George, You have a beautiful spirit 🙏🏼. Best of luck to you.
Time spent outdoors, soaking in the sights, bathed in nature sounds, is therapeutic!
Walking under the dappled light of the tree canopy has been proven to reduce anxiety, alleviate depression 🌲🌲🌲
Keep being you, George, you’re delightful 😊
I love your talking voice George❤
Wait! So you're not really cozy, you're just "Cozy"??? 😰😭
Dat hurted
George,
Please stop worrying about what other people think. You are a kind, balanced, honest person. Your money is yours to spend, and I think you do it very wisely!
@@Del213 what are you on about ya clown
@@Del213 You need to cheer up and be pleasant.
@@Del213
Sorry to hear that.
Yeah but that's how anxiety works; it doesn't let you ignore how you are being perceived.
That cowboy hat for Junior is definitely worth the money you paid for it. No apologies needed. You are a credit to humanity, George. Listening to you makes me happy. If you ever get a hold of organic hemp seeds, please try them, George. I've known people whose depression lifted (like night and day) just by consuming hemp seeds.
Mr. Dinnett apologize to no one for what you have accomplished, people should learn from you..
Each to their own I reckon. Some people would hate living like I do, and that's OK!
You should apologise for getting his name wrong 😊
@@jefftaylor8584Lol that was funny
Why not - it’s his way - leave him to it
I love how the most 'offensive thing' in your spending is the least offensive spending habit someone could have. Being not into expensive clothes or holidays is such a good moneysaver.
I just thought it would be a bit offensive to people's ears that I don't have much interest in travel haha.
@@Patchy It's not like you said you don't have an interest in the outdoors. I can't be asked to travel afar due to the hassle but it's not like I wouldn't love to go out to the beach or somewhere nearby with friends.
@@PeachiPrism In reality who buys stuff they can't afford?
@@Anonymoose66G loads of people buy stuff they can't afford that's why they are in debt ( I dont mean mortgages student loans or car payments)
@@sarahmacrae8277 Is that actually why people are in debt though? Or are they in debt because they can't afford to live. Maybe I should rephrase the question to whom actually buys goods/services they want yet cannot afford? This is surely a tiny minority of the overall population, like who is buying a car if they A) don't need one and B) can't afford one?
So cute to see Junior in a cowboy hat! 😂 Also, it is very refreshing to see you be so open with your income and expenses. It is something I’m curious about with most people because I wish to compare my own experiences and efforts. Good job and thank you!
Also, how DARE someone take your name for a website before you!
She wears it well. 🤠 Glad the video was in line with your curiosities! :)
Good for you for constantly seeing a therapist. I do as well and it has changed my life. I wish everyone had access to a good therapist. And Junior walking in front of the camera is something every cat person can relate to lol. You are the coolest guy on TH-cam!
As a 28 year old person in Scotland I’m jealous that your car and food shop are so low! I struggle to keep under £40- £50 a week on food and thats really just my main three meals
Curious to know what you manage to save, how you save/invest and things like pensions when self employed if you ever fancy making a video like that!
Interesting video thank you
That hat for your kitty was a necessity. I love it.
I agree. 🤠
Doesn’t do expensive clothes, doesn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs, and doesn’t have an obsession with going all over the world for holidays…
… a man after my own heart!
"Too ginger to enjoy the sun" and "until they hoover me up" are the best quotes ever! 😂 Absolutely love your channel and all that you do, from a fellow ginger!
George you are are the most sane level headed person I know. Don't ever change from who you are. You have a good life for yourself.
You are truly an awesome and amazing person and you should be commended. I am blessed to have been able to watch your shared life here on TH-cam and Twitch. Much continued success and happiness to you, your family and Junior. Thank you again for sharing.
Cheers Glenn! That's very kind of you to say and much appreciated. :)
Just Do you George, I'm inspired by you.
Well that's very nice of you to say
Can't knock you for your lifestyle or your honesty George, you live a life many could only dream of and in such a beautiful place, so good on you
Hi George, I'm pleased to be one of your earlier one billion subscribers!
Don't change a thing; you're an inspiration to all of us viewers. PS Love to Junior!
If you don't like travelling, you don't like it!! You're a good person and you shouldn't worry about what is expected. Just do what makes you happy. Thank you for your videos and keep making them ❤
I’ve only recently found you and subscribed! 😁
Your sense of humor had me hooked immediately! 😁😆😂
Junior is meant to be in front of a camera - she is gorgeous😉!! Like how you spend your money the way YOU want and how well you plan for income resources. Just a crumb of an idea here how about teaming up with your renovation crew and videoing and editing their work just like you did for your tiny home. I know there are tons of flipping type channels out there, but their focus is very different, and they don't have your soothing voice explaining the work.
People like you George because you're authentic, low key, unpretentious & you keep it real. Keep being you & do what you love. Besides looks like you live in a lovely place❤🏴 enjoy your country & don't apologise for not wanting to travel elsewhere.
Thank you for being so open about your mental health routine. I like the idea of "pre-habilitation". I especially commend your statement of seeing your therapist not just when things are bad. I find my "maintenance" sessions are just as fruitful and healing as my crisis sessions. I do wish more people would realize that mental health management is not a luxury, it's a necessity.
That makes so much sense! It’s like going to the gym, I suppose. Extra money and time, but worth it!
Love love love Juniors cowboy hat, lmao, too freakin cute she is. It’s your moola spend it the way you want, no need to apologize. I think you are an intelligent, interesting, hardworking young man. I wish you and JR all the best in your future endeavors. Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏼❤️🇺🇸
Well that's very kind... thank you! (From me and Junior 👨🏻🦰😸🤠).
Love your content and very dry sense of humour George. We Scots need to find dry somewhere 🏴🤣👍🏼
Haha thank you! And we do we do. 🤝
As many people have said, no need to apologise, you earn the money so it is up to you how you use it. To be honest I think you set a very good example of how to use what you earn wisely.
George, you're not alone. Having travelled extensively and having lived abroad for a while, I can honestly say that I'd rather enjoy the comfort of my home than risk having a somewhat bad travelling experience (which I occasionally did). So, kudos to you my friend, on good decisions and money well spent!
Stop apologizing! Play by your rules, not what others “think” you should do. If people don’t like what you do, they can unsubscribe and go somewhere else. WE like it here and mean to stay (unless you keep apologizing LOL).
I think you are a very smart young man. Investing in the housing market is using your money wisely. Housing cost are only going up. Spending your money on what you like and if it makes you happy go for it. Never apologize. It is your money. You earned it. Good video. Thanks
As a person who is much older than you, and having had anxiety all my adult life, I'm happy that you have found a way to make a good living working within an environment that you feel comfortable. These opportunities on the internet did not exist when I was chasing a career to make a living. The internet is good and bad but we can't ignore the opportunities it gives to people who prefer a small physical scope from which to work from. Greetings from Vancouver Island, Canada.
It's good to see you making the life that suits you. You've made a lot of smart choices and I hope you have lots of continued success.. Cheers from sunny California!
Oh my goodness..Junior in that hat!!! 😭They go together like cheese on toast 💞
🤠
I love your dry sense of humour. You seem a very sensible guy, with great business acumen, and you love cats. What's not to like? Your videos are beautiful to watch - good use of background music, worth the monthly expenditure you are paying, and together with the attractive scottish lilt in your voice, you are a pleasure to watch. Keep it up - you are fast becoming my favourite You Tuber :)
Very sensible bills mate! I feel the same about holidays, maybe one day I'll just drive to Germany from Scotland, could be a fun road trip. PS - we need more videos of Junior in hats
You are a very mature and well-adjusted person. Don't apologize. what you spend. It is your money and you earned it. I understand about travel and holidays. I prefer quiet moments.
New subscriber here. Man, I love your videos. And your humour!!! Bravo 🙌
Thanks Laura! :)
Never apologize for how you spend your money. It is your money. You earned it. As long as you pay your bills, mortgage, car payment, electricity and so on, you have nothing to apologize for. I think you are doing a remarkable job managing your money for anyone no matter the age. Joonya looks very cute in her hat. Thank you for sharing your world. See you in the next one.
Tomfoolery is my favorite line item. 😂
It's an important one.
The only really controversial thing about the video was how much you spend on food 🤣To me, that's crazy low. Also, think about investing in stocks. I wish I had done it much sooner.
You’re a smart, kind young man, George! (We have kids your age!) We enjoy your channel! Cheers from Minnesota, USA.
Very interesting, thanks for breaking it down for us! As long as your hobbies aren't harming anyone you have nothing to apologize for. Hope you get to enjoy some staycations around your area!
You are so wise, George, you know what you like, and what you don't and you make plans and have a vision. Good for you and thanks for sharing, I really enjoy your vidoes.
Haha thank you! Appreciate it.
No need for apologies! You certainly seem to be doing ‘you’ well. I don’t hear Jr complaining, and he wears his hat well. ❤
Haha thank you. And I'm sorry to point it out, but she's a girl! I know her name makes it confusing, but I called her that because we have matching hair. 👨🏻🦰
Oh sorry, yes I knew Jr was a female. Please apologize to her for me.😔
I appreciate your honesty and everything about your presence on TH-cam, you’re awesome! ❤
My TH-cam channel is dead and I can't see it ever getting back to what it was, am looking for a job. btw: I haven't had a holiday for 20 years.
You can drive to France, you don't have to fly. 😃 Also no need to apologize for living your life the way you want to. What ever floats your boat!
Or take the train 😀
@@elanorsybille Even more comfortable, especially if there's a good dining car!!😊
@@pixelgraphicaDining car? That doesn’t happen anymore. It’s overpriced sandwiches and the odd microwaved meal. French trains aren’t that great with food these days either.
How do you spend £100/month on groceries!?? I consider myself quite frugal and I'm struggling to stay below £300/month these days...
Yass. Preventative mental health care is so important if you can swing it! Ty for sharing your breakdown. I live in Canada, and right now, groceries are by far my biggest bill.
Definitely is, but I very much appreciate that it's a luxury most people can't get access to. Aw yeah groceries are definitely going up!
I agree: here in Italy groceries have gone up so much 😭 I live just with my two cats and, before Covid, I used to spend (just for my groceries, not including my cats' food) a little more than 40€ per week (170-180 per month) and now and I'm at 75€ per week (320-330€ per month) 😔
My income has stayed exactly the same, so no expensive holiday on the horizon in the next years...
Hi George, I didn't realise that Council Tax in Scotland includes the water bill! Amazing value compared to England, it's a separate bill.
Aw I know... we're blessed! Our water tastes a bit better as well in my experience... sorry haha!
So you don't need water counters as it's just on a flat rate? 😮
@@platinpalladium no, we pay council tax and you use what you need. We rarely have limits in place. Maybe around the summer we might be asked to go easy on watering the grass but usage isn’t monitored by household. Our water authority is publicly owned.
In general Scotland has more water than it can use, I have never heard of a hosepipe ban but then it rains quite a bit so in reality you don't need to use a hosepipe. your water bill is linked to council tax band so the larger the house the larger the water bill section, because we are not on mains drainage we get a 25% discount on water part of bill
I'm moving to Scotland@@Patchy
Top man George, keep on keeping on ! Greetings from the Alps
Cheers! 👨🏻🦰
A new subscriber here in Canada! I love your channel. Beautiful scenery. Your authenticity is so refreshing. Stay true to yourself George. You are a smart, critical thinker. Kudos from retired Lancashire Reg Nurse who lives a nature- filled simple life . Go for it! 🥰🥰😻😻🐐🐐
I make $128/week as an intellectually disabled American it took me eight months to find a job on Vocational rehabilitation services here in the US only to get denied every single time when I disclosed my disability. I got sick and tired of waiting for the employers here to take me seriously so started as well on my own making videos so I made an income off that while I waited for a job opportunity to not disability discriminate. Found a job but it only gives limited hours and I only get $126/week so yeah I'm not taking that as acceptable and making a way for myself making videos. It's sad that social media creation pays more than employers claiming "Nobody wants to work" and many people like me are resorting to it.
You are a joy, and I'm so glad I found you on youtube. You make me smile every video. THX!!!😎
I'm with you on the lack of spend on travel! My favourite way to travel to France (or Italy, or wherever takes my fancy) is by reading books written by people who have travelled there / live there, and letting my imagination do the rest. Saves a fortune on plane flights and Diazepam!
I cannot understand why anyone would find it controversial or be angry that you don't like traveling, and I love to travel--like I really LOVE traveling. Why can't people just live and let live.
I love your long term life plan. Know yourself and be comfortable in your space. I have learned to hate foreign travel and that wasn't my original intention!
Your videos are so peaceful. I'd watch you describe paint drying!!
Being somewhere that feels like home, including nature, and having no desire to travel spells contentment. I have had what most people tell me is the amazing chance to travel anywhere in the world over the past 4 months, and all I want is basically what you have. I just haven't found the place where I feel home yet, so I continue my search. It isn't just you. Flying freaks most people out, but they don't have consciousness of it. People who are sensitive (me... and you?) are the ones who end up empathing the subconscious freak-out of the plane-full and having a miserable flight. Over time, I have learned how to stay more in my own frequency bubble, but I still feel the ick of every flight I am on. You are super normal to me in every way, and if you don't want or need to travel, I say don't without apology!
125 dollars on groceries?? HOW???
You are looking way too thin bro.
I know, I know. Wasn't well recently so dropped a bit of weight. Back on the doughnuts and protein now though. 💪
@@Patchy good job. We want you heathy and focused :) much love.
As an adult, you don't owe anyone an explanation of how you spend your funds. I will say, am sure your parents ought to be proud of raising such a responsible young man. I am impressed that you live a fairly healthy lifestyle and have an eye towards the future.😊
I like the way you live George, all of it. Best wishes from Ireland to you and Junior.
I really appreciate you opening up and sharing your spending with us. My parents are older and haven't really taught me anything about finances. I've been floundering around on my own trying to learn what normal people my age typically spend. It's helpful to see someone else's usual budget.
I can totally relate to this, money was always a mystery to me as my parents never taught me about it - we had a comfortable life growing up, money was just always there it seemed. I never understood how to save by myself, until I moved out. I wish I had learned sooner!
I like you George!
Just a note about the many comments about how little you spend on groceries. Its about the same amount I spend here in the US - for me its a game and I get a real kick out of keeping that expense low while still eating a full variety of delicious meals.
Thanks for being you - keep it up.
Everything you share is so genuine and valuable.. please keep on being you ❤
You dont need to apologize for not being keen on traveling. I retired 3 yrs ago & have no desire to travel. Living in a beautiful area in New England offers me all I need in close proximity to my home. You have a strong connection to nature which is so much more satisfying & brings peace into your life.
You are an inspiration: a very sensible young man with a great sense of humor and clear goals. I'm with you on the travel kick- I prefer to drive to places of natural beauty and vibe as my vacation time. I love the hat you got for Jr. Adorable! All the best to you!
As a soon to be 29 year old(Oct 11), buying cute hats & clothing for my cat & dog aka spoiling them is my luxury spending 😂 💛
Love your videos, you are very authentic and real nothing strange about not wanting to go abroad either. Scotland is such a lovely place I visited there in 2010 and would go back especially the Isle of Skye which I have fond memories. My hubby and I are home bodies and have a property besides our home dwelling which we use for camping and hunting. We love it and it sounds like you enjoy your life too. I too go to a therapist 2x a month and find it so beneficial. Thanks again for your lovely videos they are so calming.😊
I live comfortably on half of your income. But I have no mortgage, no debt and no subscription services.
You didn't state how much the meth lab generates or the income from cage fighting!!
😂😂😂
Very nice! I like how you're very open and transparent. I really like your personality and sense of humor. And....cowboy hats for cats are truly a necessity, I'm on your side for that. You don't have to make excuses for how and what you spend "your" money, it' your money, do as you damn well please. I love your videos and glad I found them. TY
I so enjoy your channel thank you
I too suffer from crippling anxiety & find my joy close to home with my dog
Many people think I'm odd for not wanting to "go out" but solitude, silence & a good pet pal is where I find myself most at peace
Stay well & God bless
Please don't apologize for how you spend your money and time. I admire you and your accomplishments and I really enjoy watching your videos. I find them inspirational!
Scottish Council tax covers your water bill??? I wish it covered my water bill in Norfolk!! You’re my favourite TH-camr by the way 😊
An interesting video George. Always good to know what a monthly expenditure is. I tend to feel the same about holidays....it can be too much of a hassle to fly these days. I love the indifference shown by Junior (walking in front of your camera!) to us lesser humans lol 🙂
I love your sense of humor. Hits you when you least expect it too 😄
I always enjoy listening to you speak. Your humor always makes an appearance and your delivery is wise & well thought out. Yeehah for Junior's hat🤠
damn i thought i was the only person in the world who doesn't smoke, drink or travel .....!?!?!
jokes aside i get weird looks and comments too about my spending habits because i spend alot on computers and gaming but those same people smoke and drink so te fuq do they know ahah
Spend it on what you enjoy I say! I'd still like to give travel another shot, but just not prioritising it right now. Computers/gaming is definitely a better expense than smoking!
Absolutely no apologies needed! Thanks for sharing your talents with us.
Kinging-it are looking to buy a home in Scotland..maybe you could help them find a place ? 😊
Thank you for sharing and good for you sharing your therapy because it’s good for everyone 😊. I always tell my kids to b smart with your money.
The only shocking thing to me is that you can spend so little on food, fruit and veg just cost so much where I'm from.
Please don’t apologize! It’s your money and your life.
You really are a remarkable young chap. Good brain and head well screwed on wise (old) young shoulders. Your openness and candour is very refreshing and admirable. Your videos are most enjoyable and excellent quality. Cheers.
George, I’m just flabbergasted at how cheap living expenses are in Scotland. I’m Canadian, even taking into consideration the exchange rate EVERYTHING is more here 😮 A LOT more. Now I’m sad.
We are lucky enough not to generally have extreme conditions in either summer or winter. In the south east of England my heating pretty much gets turned off in April apart from the odd cold evening and it has not yet gone back on. No AC costs either. These properties are very small. Our country is compact so groceries don’t have that far to travel and our supermarket companies are very efficient and competitive. (Often at the expense of the farmer). I think George can’t buy a lot of meat in that budget and his car costs seem low.
I love renovations as well but…I am here for ALL TOMFOOLERY as well. Especially cats in hats 😉😂❤ too cute
Gosh George I’d love to hear how you make $100 worth of groceries last a month. That’s amazing! Also, you live in a beautiful country rich with history and many gorgeous places to explore, plus the added bonus of no apex predators to worry about in nature! I wouldn’t feel the need to travel much if I lived there either. I used to love traveling and then something happened that left me with (at times) crippling anxiety. It’s very hard to enjoy or even take in new places when your body is in high alert mode. France isn’t going anywhere. If and when you’re ready, France, its baguettes and dizzying repertoire of cheeses will be waiting for you.
Listening to you talk over gentle piano music is very soothing!
Also, learning what expenses are for another almost-30yr old home owner in other parts of the world is very interesting... and makes me want to move to Scotland!
I love the video. Of you. I’m not well. I thank you for that information it’s helpful.
It’s nice to hear another person my age (I’m also 29) not love more intense travel. I love road trips to quiet small towns, but I just don’t have a super huge urge to travel the world constantly. A peaceful walk and a nice cup of tea sounds much more lovely to me.
My money goes to my horses. Am too scared to work out how much that is. You have excellent taste in holidays.
Please don't worry about what other people think. You seem a kind, authentic and unpretentious person. I should think your parents are very proud 😊
We understand you, there's no need for apologizing. I appreciate and highly respect how you share the details others would hide. I always look forward to your videos because I find them quite relaxing and entertaining. 👍
All I can say is your doing well and don't give a speck of concern what others may think. Give Junior a scratch behind the ears for me. He is adorable. Continue success George. 👊
Patchy, I think people that like cities and air travel are not normal! Too stressful for me!
You just kept doing what works for you George, don't worry about the haters judging your life choices. Good vid keep it up.
I think Junior needs more hats and with Halloween around the corner a costume or two wouldn’t go amiss 😊
I wish you every success.
Always happy to hear someone honestly and sincerely be themselves- it’s why we all like you so much. I loved living in Scotland twice (East Neuk of Fife) and frankly can see why you don’t want to leave! ❤
Very frugal tbh. Don’t apologise to anyone btw. You do you. I would be terrified of creating a video like this now in my 40s though I do remember the days of tracking every penny in a spreadsheet 🙂 kids and the relentless spending they bring kinda put a spanner to that level of planning!
P.s Good luck with the Skillshare venture.
You keep doing you George! You're a beautiful human and the world needs more people like you.
Agree with you re flying and going abroad. The British Isles have all you need, enjoy it and cut the stress.
