Terry Pratchett also did a collaboration series with Stephen Baxter that was really good called the the Long Earth about multiple realities accessible to the common man by building a potato powered machine and just stepping from one to the next. Stephen Baxter also wrote a sequel novel to the Time Machine called TimeShips.

The Dracula movie sounds like the movie Priest, another vampire/western thing of a movie. I honestly love Priest though, so a sci fi western Dracula could be cool.

Angel Heart is an underrated film adaptation few people know about. It’s a supernatural noir (Think Chinatown meets Rosemary’s baby) starring Mickey Rourke and Robert DeNiro. Check it out!

I mean, this is my favorite podcast, the kind of energy and charisam which is unmatched - as far as I am concerned - in the podcast-world, AND it makes me smile and laugh and the guests this week were great and hilarious and tasteful in their movies-books choices, but... First watching Cloud Atlas and then writing your own version is the perfect hubris and example of a Columbus-egg.. Just coming up with the narrative is an impressive, stitching it together with all the meddling from producers, actors having different period make-up and costumes, set design and all of that shazam with logically solving the logistics of auch a movie, with all of that potentially misplaced invested money hanging over all the involved as a judment to future projects and careers... To write off that monumental accomplisment as, just a bad idea, is a bit arrogant.. Then again, maybe Cloud Atlas is a highly polished turd, I don't know, maybe both?

I will defend the Hitchhikers Guide movie adaptation to the death. I know it's not a perfect movie, and I know it's quite different from the book and show (mostly to fit it into a feature film), but Douglas Adams adapted the script himself, so it's really the author modifying his own work for a different audience and medium, instead of the botched adaptation everyone seems to think it is.
Also, the screenplay was Adam's last work before his death, which adds a dose of nostalgia that I appreciate.
James just tell people you run a web media company that specialises in monetising a diversified portfolio of entertainment demographics specifically optimised for the acoustic spectrum.
Actually just tell them you sell sandwiches.

Nooooo, the Netflix Dirk Gently is awesome. More of a spiritual adaptation than a direct one. Which works more than the bbc one. Which was mostly bobbins.

I forgot James finally watched Avatar The Last Airbender. When will the boys cover it? I seem to recall James wanted to make Maeso watch the movie once before the show and then again after... Did that ever happen or are they still planning to cover it in some capacity eventually?

Tom Sharpe is was one of maybe 2 authors (the other being either Pratchett, Westlake or Adams) that have made me laugh uncontrollably - but there was one part of most Sharpe books where something horrible happens a man's reproductive organ. Strangely, that was part of a different Venn diagram then the uncontrolled laughter one, with the author Martin Caiden...whose writing never resulted in unrestrained mirth.
I really liked the Good Omens adaptation, but one of the things I didn't like was the narration. Frances McDormand is a great talent, but just not a right fit. It might have mostly been that she's American (as am I).

Also how could you discuss Bladerunner that much and not make the joke that it is a terrible book adaptation because the book bladerunner is completely unrelated other than them stealing the title.

Personally will NEVER watch "The Watch". The "true to book" adaptations are so low budget and hokey (except Good Omens), and the shit version gets a giant budget. Unbelievable. When the 4th subplot of a book series is the main focus of the tv show, you already now its garbage.
The Great Gatsby (2013) is my favorite movie based on a book--second would be The Fountainhead starring Gary Cooper.
