Eh as someone who enjoys the revenge and betrayal storm and tropes, I found this recap to be an amazing change of pace and wouldn’t mind to see more of this
A story where the party didn't actually betray the protag and the protag willingly chose to stay back and save his friends. And then once he returned, his friends welcomed him back with open arms once they found out.

Well, well. This is a fascinating, rare and refreshing twist. An MC that sacrificed himself to save his friends and wasn't betrayed by them. He was the one who decided to do it and they wanted to either stay or wanted him to retreat with them. And they didn't forget that sacrifice and majorly honoured him, they didn't backstab him in any way. Heck, they really missed him. Thus he didn't launch any crazy revenge plots.
Its rare to see a manga and novel where the party leaves the main character behind not because hes perceived as useless but because hes their best shot at stalling the enemy for time. And the moment he returns his comrades are stupidly overjoyed to reunite.

I'm guessing you've never heard of *Gate - Thus the JSDF Fought There!* , the premise is that a gateway suddenly appears in Tokyo and an army of Roman-like warriors begin attacking cause much death and destruction before being repelled, as a result this lead to the JSDF (Japanese Self-Defense Force) to retaliate by carrying out various assaults to the fantasy world that the attackers came from with the aid/advantage of modern military hardware.
I see your point. But the interest in that would not be in the way modern weapons and communications would just utterly dominate the normal D'n'D battlefield. I mean, any fire team worth its colours would just destroy an army of sword, bow and magic users. The magic users would take their normal stance in the back line, standing up, looking at their targets . . . and a spotter laying hidden in the grass would give radio direction to the heavy weapons squad, and the mortar team would drop just ONE shell . . . or the medium machinegun would beat that whole area for just a few bursts . . . and then everyone else would be shot dead from three times bow range. The really interesting part would be everything else. How the modern troops dealt with civilians, how they reacted to NORMAL warfare before our modern rules system which was "Cut the throats of all the wounded, torture them for info first, rob the dead and take mementos, destroy the enemy churches and make the civilians renounce their faith and adopt ours and kill men, women and children who won't do it". How hard they would find it to change the culture of any allies, and impossible to accept them NOT changing. And if they had a GOOD logistics and supply officer and an armorer , how quickly they put magic on a scientific, mass exploitable footing.
Now that is one of the more attractively drawn beast women. And his "harem" is formed more naturally and they relate to him from a more reasonable perspective too Also super cool to see the daughter fighting a longsword PROPERLY. Every manga gets that so OBVIOUSLY wrong, showing the mighty warrior HACKING down on enemies with the middle of the sword. It is LONG . . . IT IS A LONG SWORD !. Its entire advantage lays in the fact that your killing tip is closer to the enemy than his tip is to you. It is the last three inches of the blade that does the business. Swung, the middle is traveling at a third of the speed of the tip, and anything the middle can reach, the tip is already past, and being wasted.

A most interesting premise. While I am fond, or rather drawn to the revenge or suffering of a protagonist in these cases, the complete twist of the nation and his friend creating a peaceful realm for him to return to and grant him so much honour and glory to be hailed as a paragon. Although a vague analogy, if say Superman were to sacrifice himself and disappear from Earth for a decade would his comrades from the Justice League and the people of the world make a long lasting peace in his honour and memory? Which is why I am quite surprised and like this twist on the setting. Kudos to the author of this manga.

A most interesting premise. While I am fond, or rather drawn to the revenge or suffering of a protagonist in these cases, the complete twist of the nation and his friend creating a peaceful realm for him to return to and grant him so much honour and glory to be hailed as a paragon.
Although a vague analogy, if say Superman were to sacrifice himself and disappear from Earth for a decade would his comrades from the Justice League and the people of the world make a long lasting peace in his honour and memory? Which is why I am quite surprised and like this twist on the setting. Kudos to the author of this manga.
