You guys have no idea what you’re talking about they’re booing the umpire lol. No one was mad about the sun it was literally reflecting so bad off the side off the stadium it was practically impossible for Opelka to see. The crowd was booing the umpire, and the lines judge. Also Diego threw a huge tantrum in this match as well because they stopped play for a few min. Y’all really need to learn what you’re talking about before speaking on a topic the chair umpire and line judges were horrible over the course of that tournament and the crowd knew it.
I think the umpire is handling it fairly well. Feel sorry for him that he has to be caught in the middle of poor linesman and rightfully frustrated player.

There's no "back in the day". Today 99% of tennis tournaments have no hawkeye. It's only the few that are televised that have it. Most don't even have linesmen - just a chair umpire.

Being an official is a hard job and controlling your emotion as an athlete is even harder. You practice all your life sometimes for close to perfect shots and for someone who I'm sure feels like joe shmoe takes it away from you is super frustrating.

@@estel6137 As a tennis parent, I'm very aware of this. Kids play without any lines judges and rely on their opponent's to make the right calls. My advise to my kids is typically "get over it" and to make sure a previous call does not impact the rest of their game. More importantly though, is appreciating another human being can also make mistakes and treating other people with respect.

I know its difficult, because I see tennis players make bad calls *all the time*, including professionals who 'challenge' calls only to get the challenge wrong. Have you ever seen a linesperson go up to Opelka and tell him he's HORRIBLE for challenging a call and getting the challenge wrong? As for Opelka, he has the ability to challenge calls. In one of those instances, because the lines judge made a mistake, he received a 1st serve... That works to his advantage. If anyone were to be upset, it would have been Schwartzman who now had to face another 1st serve.
@@michaelorrett1737 if there is system to replace them, its good. They make errors, just like in football matches they use reviews of situations like offsides and goals and its great. So many bad decisions about offside that totaly changed results of important matches. For example from offside you cant score a goal thats a rule, and its stupid that it woulbe called a goal when its againist the rules. And god help us bring something againist these divers for faking it. Back to the point, if something is flawed, substituting it with better option IS the better option

Problem is with American. They only see line calls that help them. Let them challenge but if they are wrong they must pay a fine....trust me that will fix the problem

You don't lose your challenge of you are correct.
Challenges don't translate to points. It can be like a point is awarded to the palyer who challenged successfully. This is just my two cents.
This is more or less how it works. You can challenge an infinite number of calls provided your challenges are all correct.

I think replaying the point is good for opelka because he can again go for the ACE 😊
But most calls were not made when he was serving, so that gives advantage to the server to ACE it and make him lose a point he worked hard for.
