The Murray one is a perfect example of an umpire’s ego being too big to admit they were wrong. Ridiculous decision anyone with eyes can see the mark is out
It was close and I don't blame Mo for thinking it was in But the Goffin umpire was the pure definition of an egotistical idiot who knows he's wrong but refuses to change his decision
Pliskova v Sakkari, when Pliskova smashed near the right side-line, and hit the ball well in, got called out, and she smashed the umpires chair; this may be the WORST I ever saw (look that one up). But if THAT wasn't the worst, then surely Cirstea having to challenge SIX calls in one set (correctly), must be a record. I dont understand how the linespeople could be so bad, so consistently. Absolutely appalling performance from the officials. I cant wait for the day when there is some form of electronic line calling. It will totally eliminate that area of argument, and bring a fairer playing field to everyone.
As an avid tennis fan and watcher, seeing this video actually makes my blood boil. We have a unique situation with our sport where we can get objective, consistent calls using technology on all surfaces. 2025 can't come soon enough
It is not his job to interfere. You can't just be giving points at such a moment, no matter if the umpire made such a big mistake. He could've, but definitely not his fault. You should be asking how a human with two eyes can miss something like that. That one is for suspension. Plus, the point would probably be his, since his lob was perfect.
I remember being an umpire for other kids games when I was 11 or something. I had to both do the umpiring and all the line calls. One time I was the umpire for some older kids, maybe 16-17 but I'm not sure. They were hitting hard and close to the line all the time. Especially very hard serves. It was stressful af to make correct line calls since I wasn't used to such high level matches. One of the players got mad at me at the start of the match for not calling a close serve out. Luckily it was clay so I could go down and verify that the ball was out.
adel nour messed up big time. even tho khacahnov was gonna lose the point, that ball was at least a foot in. and also what happened to mohamad layhani at rome?
please keep in mind that umpires and line umpires are just trying to do their job, everyone makes mistakes, we are human .. just some seconds not 100% focused or lost the ballmark can end up in huge drama where always the umpire gets blaimed for … this is not fair. They are just trying to do their job as best as they can .. and everyone can have a rough day 🙏🏽🥹 when everythings goes well, no one points out how good the job from an umpire was .. just always pointing out mistakes
We have to start getting these more consistent correct instead of making highlight reels about how frustrated players get when they lose a point on a bad line call.
man some of these empires are so bad, worse than the weekend warriors at the park. the goffin one he had clear view, he shouldnt even come down the chair, and the massu lahani one was even worse he dindt wanna come down the chair. massu robbed 3 points and funny lahani "corrected" the hardest ball LOL its 2024 almost pls ATP get techologized
On average, linemen/empire make between two and three mistakes per match. But some mistakes are huge. If I was Khachanov, I wouldn’t move away from the mark, and ask for the supervisor, the tournament referee, and even for god himself to come check it.
That first match is an absolute shit show. How tf isn't there Hawkeye in place there!? Using marks on the ground on clay is also stupid af. If the technology is there, use it.
When you see blatantly bad calls like this being made, I think it calls into question the validity of certain matches. I wouldn't be shocked if instinctively, the better players received more leniency than lower ranked lesser known players. Hypothetically, would the Big 4 still be the Big 4 today if auto hawkeye was implemented decades ago?
What was we he supposed to do? It was called out by the line judge and the umpire overruled it even after looking at the wrong mark. Umpires never go back on their overrules
Impossible situations really. Those balls are traveling so fast, and the line judges and umpires really have no way of being 100% certain. Obviously you can’t give the player the benefit of the doubt, but it’s too bad hawk eye couldn’t have corrected those absolutely horrendous calls. Not that humans are or should be held to that standard, but if the mark of the ball is completely out then it’s out dude… stop imagining things. Thank god in the future it will all be electronic.

you can see it from the moon

I actually don’t understand HOW the ump in the first clip is still an umpire on the atp. His calls were outrageous
Lahyani gets away with his crap umpiring by smiling.
He's one of the best and most respected by the players. No one is perfect.

Totally agree. Wasn't it supposed to be 2024?
Evans is such an unfair player. I can't believe he didn't see the ball hit the court on after Karen's first shot!

hes always crying too , throwing tantrums every set. and CMON CMON! u think that kinda person would be fair play like nadal?
it wouldve been good sportsmanship to ask for a replay, but he did'nt have to and its not his fault for not doing it

It's just a game relax
I think some matches are rigged and some umpires are sports betting addicts and they make their own odds and bets.

Layani again and again, what a surprise !
And people calling him the best umpire. He is one of the worst, he just smiles and gets away with it.
How many of these calls was he involved in? More than half?

I didn't know that umpire messed up so much when he was younger.
All these umpires and line judges should have been fired right after the damages they caused.
Right they should be jailed. Bet you never make mistakes 🤡
Rafa vs ferrer underrated rivalry .they played nearly 20 times in clay but no extended highlights from their clay clashes..
In Murray case the ball was Out !
Antwerp had no hawk eye during Covid?
good that Goffin ignored the umpire at the end
if they also take compilation from WTA, the call in Amarissa Toth vs Zhang Shuai should be on the top of this list. It was pure garbage call
I wouldn’t take an umpire job even if I were offered USD150,000 a year
Tennis don't need judges' human error. Get rid of them already. We have all the tech, believe me
When are you gonna be replaced at your job?
7min in, Nadal not honest enough to pipe up that his ball was well long, while the umpire was making a fool of himself.

I think so. Look at the Federer vs Nadal Wimbledon #5 for Fed. Nadal challenged 4 times and won all 4, by 1 or 2 ml. Federer still won.
