The Gran Partita and these Strauss works are the best pieces written for Winds, ever, hands down. Horn solo at 5:01 is so suave, and then it comes out again in such beauty again at 7:17 blossoming into fuller orchestration at 7:38. Such an intoxicating melody, such rich playing, and these musicians play it to the hilt hitting high after high at 8:34 and 8:55, before fading into the dreamy coda. Just a few of my first movement highlights. For a live performance - no editing/splicing - this is an astounding recording. A great rich, unified, and in tune sound all the way down to the last note. Does anyone know what happened to this ensemble? Looks like they recorded this and the Gran Partita and then disappeared from the face of the earth. I'm so grateful this recording made its way to youtube.

Oh no, it's not: this is 'Aus der Werkstatt eines Invaliden' . The 'Happy Workshop' - 'Fröhliche Werkstatt' - is an entirely different piece: Sonatine No. 2, TrV 291.
I really hope that one cracked note didn't detract from your enjoyment of an otherwise sensational performance. This recording of this extremely difficult work is absolute tops. These players nail this.

Lovely piece...this and the No. 2 are the longest works I've seen called "sonatinas"!
I love this piece (and #2). It's just so rich. Nobody wrote for winds quite like Strauss. These two and Mozart's Gran Partita.

Bravissimi
Fantastic performance. who are the players? I couldnt find it anywhere on the web. Sounds British to me.

A respectable execution (but unfortunately a misplayed note at 4:24)

@@andrewbraid1815 Ridiculous. It's the merest discolouration.
Don’t hear it - get over it!!
