Everyone helps out cleaning the place.
This is so galaxy brain!! Hopefully it works. The homework club Kelsey Impicciche did for her 100 infant challenge didn't really work too well. Only like one kid would actually do their homework autonomously.

With the amount of upgrading Laird is doing, you should really have her do the Nerd Brain aspiration. The handy trait with the instant upgrade ability will go perfect with her handiness career.
Just don't use it on toilets because it does the compost upgrade too. Learned that the hard way. 😂

@@hibiscusrogers4598I don’t know if they did an update, but in my gameplay experience it does indeed do the eco ones too, unfortunately.
I raised my ratings by maintaining and upgrading appliances. There’s also a “perfect inner workings” upgrade for the water heater and electrical box. Highly recommend.

James the rate sometimes goes down at seemingly random times, because you place and then remove the crafting table, which the game reads as removing a skill building item from the shared space.

The maid works with shared space. He didn't clean the counter because there was food on it that was still good. The Sims couldn't finish their cake because there was a good cake on the floor in front of the oven. No excuse for not addressing the grill or floor scuffs...
It looked like the maid was upset because there wasn't a regular indoor trash bin to use to clean up old food. Not sure why they wouldn't clean the rest up, though.
I know that Laird is just renovating her first building, but I think that the next one should be the Bigwallets Emporium😉 A building with such a history cannot be forgotten😊

In the past, renovating the Emporium was usually the last thing a Bigwallet did during their Let's Play. But I'd love to see them do it earlier, so we could actually get to see some gameplay in it. It's such a fun lot.

i love reading the comments because everyone seems so educated in the sims world. like how does one learn u can get a vacuum to bring burnt items back to life? only through great experience. u guys are amazing. love the sim community
I think about this all the time, then it inspires me to play rags to riches and I always end up quitting because I don’t know the ins and outs completely 😂
Honestly, I feel the same way. That's why I waited for James to go on and make every mistake ever, so I then can actually play sims "like a pro". No offense to James. The mishaps are the best part of this channel.
Did the rating go down in #1 because you removed the shared bathroom? Because you added a bath to unit 1, and the shared toilet still existed, so they had access to two bathrooms - but then you later removed the shared bathroom when you added the bathroom to unit #2, decreasing bathroom access back to just the one in their unit for unit #1? Maybe a small shared half bath would be beneficial- especially because then Laird has somewhere to pee when doing maintenance.
Laird doesn't need it anymore since she got rid of the mold, but for everyone else, there's an upgrade available on the Roomba from Cats & Dogs that allows it to clean up mold spots.
Glames McGlorbin sounds like a sitcom character that every main character talks about, but we never actually see lol

To anyone trying to raise unit ratings: add a bin to each apartment & live in the apartment building for 2 or 3 days. Maintenance events might happen more frequently, just throwing away rubbish ups the maintenance rating (so just living there doing normal things you'll up the unit rating) & throw neighbourhood potlucks.
The holiday break made me realize how much I like the rags to riches series. I have been waiting for this!
I think Laird should marry the sim that won the lottery, use the funds to buy the hotel, have a family together, and everyone can help run the hotel. Imagine making the kids dress like bellhops. Room Service to Riches 😂

It might be worth doing a side quest and getting the Smog Vacuum. Then you could use the burnt items in the apartments.
There is a mod that helps with that
Since Ambrose had one, Lilith may still have his smog vacuum. Maybe Laird could “buy” it from her

If I remember correctly, James and Gluon did a living off a landfill to retail let's play. They found that if you put the vacuum (get it from the gallery) and put it on a sales table it becomes available. But a side quest could be fun too.
The woodworking table is classed as an activity, when you add it to the lot to use it, the ratings go up, when you put it back in your inventory the ratings go down!
I think you can add the cat hangout lot trait to justify the pet stuff you placed in the shared space

23:39 I know you already have level 10 in Handiness but you should consider doing the Nerd Brain Aspiration to get the ability to do Instant Upgrades on any appliance. You'd have to up your logic and buy a rocket ship BUT you could use to finished upgraded rocket ship as an activity in a shared space later on

Hey James, in my gameplay when the owned building disappears from the menu just click on the vet/shop/ restaurant icon. It resets easily for me
Mine didn’t, I couldn’t even get into build mode on the property. I went back to a day old backup and built back up after running a repair. Working ok now, but took half a day to fix last weekend.
I downloaded this building yesterday and now have 5 different apartments in the existing floor plan. Each has their own bathroom, but it’s a studio style open floor plan. It was fun trying to make such small spaces so livable ♥️
Now that you’ve gotten rid of the mould and filth challenges you should get rid of the mould and filth marks on the walls!
I agree! She deep cleaned the entire building so I feel like she would have gotten rid of some of the filth on the walls too.

You should put a little shared bathroom downstairs in your owned apartment in the maintenance space?
Since you don't really need the shared space anymore because all the units have their own kitchen and bathroom now, it might be good to turn it into another unit! If you just add a bed and include the bathroom on the other side of the hall, it already has everything a sim would need so it could work!
I really wanna see Laird run a (small) recycling facility at some point where you turn on the landfill lot and she fixes and upgrades the items that are dumped and then sells them.
Once she’s level 10 handiness it’ll be a good and quick way to make a lot of money quickly. You could also make fixer bots at some point, they’ll help your apartment building and at the store eventually.
I like your videos, James. I'm always learning something new in game features. The story is pretty good, too. I've always wondered if using utility bots could help with being a landlord like cleaning and repairing objects. The party bot could work during party gatherings as well.
I think laird should start finishing the white cakes that the other tenants start and sell them at her stand. Maybe the other tenants are sick of the mold problem and think Laird would be a better landlord and their trying to help her make the money she needs to buy the building!

Laird could live in one of your own rentals and have 0 rent while you craft stuff for other units. I’ve been playing with a spell caster and Dumpster/Repairio has been awesome to furnish rentals. Thanks for showing off the woodworking mod and the trash glitch hehe
What if you added a basement in the building you own?? Then Laird could live there and make things, have good relationships with the tenants, etc. so there wouldn’t need to be so much traveling. Or even make the “landlord room” a bedroom/workshop

You should build a rental lot and move all the Bigwallets in. I'm playing 100-baby that way - moving all my kids out to the same premises. It's super fun that way.

I don't have the pack and I wondered if you just make the apartments larger by adding an inaccessible room that belongs to the apartment somewhere in the deepest basement? Could you load that inaccessible room full of junk that adds to the environment rating?
I just imagine visiting the unit and finding the tenants in this room.

The best way to get bits and pieces for the fabricator is rummaging in indoor bins. Sims usually "drop" trash on the floor and you just put it back into the bin and rummage. I've tested all the ways and this is much better and cheaper than using the recycling machine

ill say it again, pls make the first rooftop a shared space instead ! the third unit already has one private rooftop.
then, some of the skill building items or activities can go there. the kitchen of the 3rd unit can be in a better layout - the fridge could be tucked away in that one tile.
I think that maybe you moving the handmade beds out of the first 2 units and into the third unit made the price of the other units go down? Since you replaced the single beds to bunkbeds

Wow, being a landlord is no walk in the park. Poor Laird is constantly dazed and broke. If she had a wastebasket, she could put trash in it then "Rummage for Bits & Pieces" in the wastebasket, but I guess she prefers to use trash for dumpster diving..
I laughed when she bought the Free Services trait. She does more work around the building where she lives than her landlord does! Great episode.

Can you craft planter boxes and stick it on the balcony of the third unit in Laird’s building? That will give them a cheap skill building item and it might make rent go up?

James, book reading is an activity and they're cheap! So are easels that Laird can craft on her own!

Pets actually will use the pet stuff if your tenants have pets lol
I want even more self made stuff, like they could make computers and electronics on the robotics station, and more on the woodworking and fabrication, so basically you could make everything yourself. It would be so cool!
I've been having the same problem with sims constantly making cakes. I'm almost certain it's a bug that's been there since Growing Together. It doesn't matter whether the sims are invited to my party, invited over to current lot, having a stay over, or coming over with residence keys, they just make multiple cakes and leave them everywhere until almost all the countertops are full. It's incredibly frustrating.
This might be caused by that foodie neighborhood action plan! It was happening to me until I turned that off. Might be worth checking to see if that helps. :)

I've won the lottery once. By the family, who lived in little eco flat and worked only for improving the ecology. They didn't have a lot of money for reason. I just decided to buy a ticket once in a while as far as I've never won before.
Man, it was so dumb.
I noticed that you have 3 apartments but I don't see any listed as shared space in the list for the apartment you have. I thought, and I could be wrong, you are supposed to designate the shared space with the first apartment number before doing the apartments for rent with the pack. Maybe that is causing some problems.
I've grown so suspicious of black t-shirts I will never be able to look at James wearing one the same 👀
You should move out to your own lot where you slowly build new apartments starting with your own, and buy this building where you currently live to be the new landlord. Then you have two properties and a new lot to develop over time.
Weird you got thrown that error code,I did too, on the 31st of December, but I couldn't manage to fix it. Luckily I had a recent save that worked.
Re: Pet stuff (bowls & stuff). When the "adopt a pet" apartment challenge is active the strays do eat from them... It actually a pain to keep them full.
I have noticed if your dazed and all the mold is clean there is a shower option that says “clean off mold spores”.

Tenants LOVE when you upgrade their kitchens and bathrooms, but don’t seem to care about beds. Also if you “commend tenants” you can have a pet drive!

I am doing this with my own sim. Started her as a renter (teenager) with 0 simoleons, where she worked on blackmailing, building some skills, and get orchids/death flowers so she can stay young. When she turned adult, I made her ask people for loans (the goal is to earn money by renting, but without having to actually work for the money). She then bought a small, completely trashed house, with 15 lot challenges + cat/dog and vampire hangout, full of cracks and broken appliances. (house flipper style) Her goal is to renovate and make it a nice home office. And for every unit she rents out, and get to 5 stars, she can remove a lot challenge. I will randomise which ones get removed.
She is also a cleptomaniac, and learned the magic stealing spell. So if there is something she can't make, she can steal the rest, lol.
James im begging pls switch the fridge and the bin like put the fridge on the wall and the bin next to the couch in that one apartment PLEASE lol, love you lots!
