I discoverd Tony Joe when I was 14 years old....52 years ago...and every song he sings touches my soul and lifts my spirits. RIP Tony Joe, and thank you.
If the radio played something more than ‘Polk Salad Annie’, I would have given him more than one listen. Sad that! I lived in Austin and my gf introduced me to this sound many years later into 2K. Every time I hear this artist reminds me of her and I like that.
Ya gotta MOVE with this one!! My sister passed last year. Tony Joe White was one of her favs. I think of her every time I hear him. She had excellent taste in music. Miss you sister.
May his songs bring you loving memories of your sister and peace.. One of my other favorite songs of his was "Let the healing begin". I wish you the best.
@@paulmackenzie1850 Hey, Paul. Thank you, so much for your kind words regarding my sister and Tony Joe White. You made my evening! Music is such a special gift that helps us through Life's journey. Thanks again, Donna
Tony and I were neighbors. He grew up one side of the river and I grew up on the other side. This guy is the epitome of a great song writer. Try and count the number of his published songs he has. Great performer also. One of the music world's greatest secrets. If you don't know Tony Joe White's music my friend, you have missed a lot. This man was born on my brother's birthday and passed from this world on my birthday. I will be inspired by this man's music till the day I die. Dark Horse Coming. You better be ready to ride!
Yes indeed! I am almost 70 years old and I found this man for real about 2 years ago just about the time he passed away! It is that blues groove that he lands upon that can only come from one place... And that is supposed to Joy and sorrow of life. One thing I do hope or is that his family wife and children etc are reaping the benefits of his art which he chose to share with all of us. I can truly say I believe he was a great man!
I always liked this cat so much because he brought blues and a swampy feel to everything that he did great musician totally underrated being a musician myself I would have loved to been this man's drummer thank you my friend great music
Tony' s unmistakable voice evokes past memories of nites next to a fire, star gazing and drifting clouds of pakalolo whisping around us. Like Texas where the stars at night are big and bright, growing up in Hawaii, the solitude of being on an island in the Pacific had a similar effect. The stars weren't diluted by city lights. Tony's awesome music still remains my go to when life set's me up to contemplation. RIP brother. God Bless.

Dang...this song is only on one album?? But to get it on Amazon is hundreds of dollars...like what the hell? Anyone out there can burn it for me?? Just love this song.
"Across the river, an owl was calling......as he slowly made his rounds....." THAT is poetry. This guy was amazing. What a loss with his death.
his music 🎶 makes him immortal

Love, love everything Tony Joe White has done!
Just love this man's music!
Definitely the musical inspiration for Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing"...lots of the same guitar licks and chords...
Good musicians steal only from the best.
this is 1999(lake placid blues) and "sultans of swing" (and even better: "down to the waterline") were off Dire Straits eponymous album 1978.
Bien vu
Mark K toured with Tony in Europe for years. I would suggest they learned from each other.
