  • Between the 25th and 27th of May 2024 would see the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Steam Railway hold their annual Cotswold Festival of Steam event, featuring an intensive timetable with steam-hauled services throughout.
Undoubtedly, the main attraction for this gala would be the debut of new build locomotive GWR/BR Grange no. '6880, Betton Gtrange', which would see it operate its first passenger workings. It was due to attend the Battlefield Line for running in and the Severn Valley for their Spring Gala, but overrunning works meant it was unable to do either lines; thankfully, it was able to turn up for this one. Also attending was new build GWR/BR Saint no '2999, Lady of Legend', and ex-GWR/BR Large Prarie converted to 9300 no '9351'- a full new build guest lineup. A selection of the GWSR's own steam fleet was also in operation during the event, including freshly overhauled ex-GWR/BR 2800 no '2807', which had returned to service late last year.
This is also the first gala video recorded in 4K instead of the usual format where I film in 1080p, then render in 1440p to get the VP9 codec for higher quality. Having now found a way to compress the raw 4K files from the camcorder to a more reasonable size without sacrificing their quality, all my videos from this point onwards will be in 4K.
Due to this video’s length, it has been broken down into ‘Chapters’ where certain parts of the video have been labelled correspondently. Here, you can choose which parts of the video you want to watch without having to search the entire feature.
LS = Lineside; all shots taken from stations and vantage points.
WS = Windowside; all shots taken from the droplights of passenger trains. The locomotive/s hauling it will be added too.
You can view these chapters in the video playback bar or the description, where they’ll be listed with their time codes.
