Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway - 'Cotswold Festival of Steam' 25/05/2019

- The 'Cotswold Festival of Steam' has earned its place as a highly regarded event on the Gala-Calendar over recent years. This years rendition, held over the 25th-27th of May, paid testimony to this as the Gala brought together various locomotive designs; including designs of the Southern Railway (SR), London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) as well as the Great Western Railway (GWR)
In keeping with 'Festival of Steam' tradition, the event was run under a theme - this year being "Northern Soul"; echoing the origins of two of the visiting locomotives to the event: B1 Class - 1264, and 439 Class - 419. The event would see no fewer than 8 steam locomotives gracing the metals of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, working the full current line length of 15 miles between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway.
Also making a return visit for this year, 6023 "King Edward II" will be staying at the railway for the duration of the Summer months, courtesy of the Didcot Railway Centre.

Ex-SR Rebuilt 'Merchant Navy' Class - 35006 "Peninsular & Oriental S.N. Co."

LNER B1 Class - 1264

Ex-GWR 6000 'King' Class - 6023 "King Edward II"
Rounding-off the visiting trio, Caledonian Railway's 439 Class - 419, made its debut visit to the Cotswolds as part of the 419's' on-going UK tour. Due to the locomotive failing with a hot bearing a couple of days before the gala, 419 was limited to light shunting manoeuvres around Winchcombe for most of the day - as such, the locomotive doesn't feature in this video.

Spectacular video. Wish I was there to meet the locomotives especially King Edward 2 but the problem was it was too far where I live
However at east Lancashire railway there’s a 1940s weekend going on what’s not far from me so I been there twice and I enjoyed it. Probably heading back tomorrow

I was going to attending the event, but I decided to visit the railway on their normal timetable and to see the visiting LNER B1 in action during next Saturday.

They've already taken 419 back to Bo'ness once to try to get it sorted. The "northern" theme seemed a little tenuous, with five of the seven engines coming from Swindon and one from Eastleigh, a Big Engine gala would have been a better term.
While I agree that the theme was very much 'hanging by a thread', I feel it still works on the grounds of the home-fleet locos vs visiting locos. Given 2 of the 3 visitors were of Nothern descent, and therefore very much away from home (unlike the influx of home-fleet GWR locos), I feel it still represents the visiting locos quite well. Though I do see your point.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel as being a volunteer at the gwsr, the theme was a tad off but we would have had a third northern guest if didcot didn't want to have the hall for the summer and swap for the king. Plus we couldn't do anything about 419's problem, as it was too late and we weren't told about the fault till after it broke, so we had no time to sort it. Sorry. But the gala was a good success and was a fabulous event anyways.

If only it were that simple...
there's no heritage line that has the luxury of two turntables, and besides, it's making a good sound that's the most important thing
