Gotta say, I really appreciate the nonstandard modernist pear. With galleries closed, it was a welcome dose of true art. 🤔
I now have a strange urge to see 'Pear descending a stair case, no. 2' ... And other such classics... 🍐
The fact that Tom made a non standard modern reference pear just shows how far he’ll go to make a silly joke.
I still wish their table top simulator video had a reference pair. It's the mascot.

Matt and Quinns at this point have become monoliths, unshakeable from their precipices as long-time board game critics. Tom feels like OUR rising champ. The creative energy coupled with the self-deprecation that defines my life. We get to see his rise and his passion develop. Am I allowed to have a favorite SUSD guy? Because I am always excited for a Tom video even if I don't care about the game.
@@SpencerDub I'm getting a real strong sense of Tom's "shtick." It's the "here's a cool thing so I'll do a funny bit that just kinda keeps going and I don't know how to stop it help help help!" Which, honestly, I find really funny. :D
Yeah, this is a call back to the old style reviews. The humour has gradually disappeared over time, only to be reincarnated by Tom.

He's like a SU&SD super-fan given access to their channel and backlog of in-jokes, along with their prestigious 10£ budget. He's too dangerous to be kept alive, and he knows it.
Was obvious one minuet in, and solidified by that final joke.

My favorite part of the game? Playing “auctioneer” when you offer a painting from your hand. You get to come up with a bunch of nonsense to describe the artist, their painting, and the *certain* future value of the art. A true classic.
Tom is a lot like actual modern art: colorful, imaginative, and highly influenced in value by wealthy investors seeking to manipulate the market

I had genuinely no interest in watching a review for this game but couldn't close the tab because of how good this video was. Tom's style somehow one ups SUSDs usual weirdness and I love it
I love Non-standard Modernist Pear with all of my heart.
You forgot to mention the most important part of Modern Art: THE TINY GAVEL!!! It may be the best game component ever invented. Holding the tiny gavel makes a player THE AUCTIONEER, imbued with the power that title entails. The toy factor is high with the tiny gavel, and words cannot describe how effortlessly it enables players to slip into the theme.
Modern Art is a game that I can explain the rules of in 5 minutes, but also one where I have revelations about strategy almost every time I play. It's so elegant and complex, but also so fun for a first time player who has no idea what they're doing. It's cutthroat calculation, speculation, psychological manipulation, plus giving paintings goofy names and laughing at yourself for getting drawn into a ridiculous bidding war where there's no way you should pay that much but there's also no way you can let your opponent get that painting.
You can really tell that Tom puts a lot of effort in his videos - all the skits/jokes and fun edits makes for such entertaining reviews!

Changing the Danger Zone MIDI to add the extra syllable to make 'economy zone' fit is a touch of genius! Another great video, Tom!!
If you want to be really really good at this game, I recommend getting a PhD in economics and at least one or two courses in auction theory.

I love all these weird little paintings, but i want to use that tiny gavel for nefarious purposes.
Love the 80s vibe to the Economy Zone. The "video tape" quality and synthesizer Danger Zone-esque music is brilliant.

Love Modern Art. I am also love being agent of chaos when playing it. "So you thought we would be all fighting for these 3 artists? And you have all sunk in a lot of money. Why don't I add a fourth into the mix? Why can't all 5 join in on the fun? What do you mean I have completely ruined any ability to judge what any given painting is worth?"
My family walked in while I was watching this review on tv, and were enthralled by the game's theme and I immediately went to my local game store to buy it. Probably the first time anyone in my family cared about a board game I'd be interested in playing. Good job Tom.
This video watches like a vintage SUSD video. Tom has his own spins, but his videos are getting more and more recognizable as SUSD, which is awesome

Tom's video style is fantastic. I don't think Mosern Art is a game I would enjoy but this video was still so fun to watch.
Not gonna lie modern art doesnt interest me that much but god this review was crack up!
I'm not interested in playing 90% of the games reviewed on SUSD, and I'll only play a small fraction of the remaining 10%. But I love how endearing and colorful SUSD's content is, so I keep coming back.
