Casio W800H Countdown Timer Mod

  • Casio W800H is a great watch! But it can be better... For unknown reasons countdown timer is factory disabled on 3240 module used in W800H. Luckily masterminds of the internet figured how to hack the watch to its full potential.
    In addition I slipped a color filter in there to make it more personal. Overall, Casio W80H is great. Maybe a little ugly but functional, especially with countdown timer mod. Enjoy!

    Looks great! I also just enabled the 5 alarms on mine. I thought I wouldn't like it, but I love it since you can set any of the 5 for everyday, everyday in a month, a specific date in a month and or for 1 single day of the year. I learned though that only alarm 1 will show the ALM and SNZ if enabled. The other 4 alarms will not. However, figuring them out if they are on or off is quite easy. When you hold in the adjust button on any of the alarms, it enables the alarm only. Then exit the alarm set and only the alarm will be on. Then press the ADJUST button 2 more times to turn off that alarm. It is annoying at a quick glance that you can't see that they are enabled, but with the buttons that way it is easy enough to figure out.

    I picked up another one of these a couple days ago at Walmart, a gray one with a black band. Just decided a little while ago to mod that one as well, but after getting the whole thing torn down, lol I couldn't for the life of me remember which of the solders to eliminate, so I came back for a refresher course, and this time I scraped away enough of it to make it work the first time. Total working time from the time I started removing the springbars for the bands to having it completed and with the bands back on? Well under 15 minutes. Now I'm not sure which of them I like better... probably the gray one. Great tutorial and thanks for posting this mod that changes everything for this watch.

    I couldn't get it to work on mine. I tore it down three or four times thinking I may not have completely severed the connection, but no dice. After reassembly, everything else still works how it's supposed to, just no countdown timer.
    EDIT: 6/10/2021
    After breaking it all back down a few days ago, I kind of lost interest and put everything into a small plastic storage box, and left it on my nightstand. About a half hour ago, I looked at it and got interested again, I finished breaking the module down, scraping solder, reassembling the module, nothing, break the module down again, more scraping, reassemble, nothing, break it down a third time, told it that if it didn't unlock my countdown timer this time, I was going to scavenge all of its universal stuff like screws, battery, pushers, clips, etc, and the rest was going in the trash. This time I got overly aggressive with the screwdriver that I was scraping with, and I felt a very noticeable click while I was scraping and decided that this was probably as good a place as any to stop. I reassembled the module, popped the battery back in, locked it down, shorted the AC terminal to ground, pressed the mode button twice and there it was... TR in the upper left corner. Then I put the module back into the case, put the cover on, and pressed the MODE button a few times to make sure I still had noise. Project complete, timer unlocked.
    One weird thing I noticed while everything was apart... The back cover says it has Module 3240, the spider clip that holds the module together says 3238 in its upper left position by the Casio logo, after the module was completely disassembled, the side of the PCB that faces inward said it was Module 3239, and after everything was reassembled, the three button Casio legitimizing test says it's Module 3233. Anyone have any thoughts on this? What Module does this thing actually have? I've seen this before on a few of my others where the cover says one thing, but the three button Casio test says something else. This is my first time actually disassembling a module, so I don't have much of a basis for comparison.
    Regardless of what everything else says, and I'm sure some would argue this point against me... I don't really care much what any of the printed items say, but the one thing that's actually permanently programmed into the watch's memory is 3233, so that's what I'm going with.

    Where do you get your polarizing film?

    • @Techsas
      @Techsas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's color filter not a polarizing film. It's called Roscolux color gels, you can find them on ebay.

    • @sped6954
      @sped6954 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look at the white plastic piece, and try to keep it oriented correctly, there will be a tiny hole near the top left corner. On the metal frame that clips the module together, on the top row it says UP(+). The hole directly below UP(+) is where the spring goes. The spring is actually not the same in both ends. One end flares out just slightly and has to be installed on the inside face of the module, so when you go to put everything back together, the spring will be captive in the module and won't be lost when you remove the back cover to change the battery. Some people just drop it down inside the module as the last step before putting the cover back on, which is wrong because it makes it too easy to lose it on future battery replacements.
