I mostly played with these settings depending on the game:
EE Cycle Rate- either 50%/60%/100%
EE Cycle skip - either mild underclock (1)/max overclock or leave default
Multithreaded VU1 - check
Instant VU1 - check
Vulkan
Some games work better with frame limiter turned off too(or change the frame to 110 for some games)
.
The commonly used settings was ee cycle rate: 60%, ee cycle skip mild underclock and rest as I mentioned.
Some games you can leave ee cycle rate: 100% and ee cycle skip as default and rest as I mentioned.
In exceptional cases, ee cycle rate: 50% and ee cycle skip : Max overclock and the rest as I mentioned to make the game work. Hope it helps 🙏
Awesome. Thanks brother
this is using aethersx2 emulator ?
@TuhuIsHere yes
So wait? This wasn't done with the updated NetherSX2?
It's tested on the final updated version.
Good job. Nice to see a video done by someone who's actually prepared to tweak the emulator to maximum effect. You've got titles working well here that others have said don't work. 10/10 for you and the cat!
Thanks 😊 🐈
Fantastic list! Thanks for putting Silent hill Shattered Memories in there. This one gets left out too often by many other channels.
😊👍🏻
Nice! Awesome dude thanks for testing those ps2 games out! Glad to see that a couple of my favorites are working pretty well.
😎👍🏻
Great testing as always 👍
😎👍🏻
This is sick!!! thanks man 😉
😎👍🏻
Very comprehensive video. Thanks
😎👍🏻
Thanks for the testing !
Most welcome 🙏
Thank you very much for playing the games I suggested! (Jade Cocoon 2, ICO, Tenchu, Sly 2, and Gregory Horror Show). I'm overjoyed to see that all worked well except for Sly 2. I'm honestly curious whether the emulator can be configured so well to the point that Sly 2 can be smoothly played here. If not I may just either wait for a device in this form factor with the power of Odin 2 or buy an Odin 2.
I tried my best and spent time to get sly 2 to work well like the rest. It does work smoothly at some part of the game while walking around, but again, it starts to get too laggy. That is why I pointed out only the laggy portion.
@@bigretrostudio Thank you for optimizing the games for this video! Some if not a lot of the games smoothly playing here weren't smooth on the other videos like these.
They might not know the best settings yet, but I'm not hiding my settings anywhere, I reply to the comment to whoever asks for them to test it out as well. :) I'm thinking of making a tutorial just for showcasing the settings
@@bigretrostudio That's really kind and great of you to do so! Having a tutorial video like that would be great since you can just redirect people to watch that video too. Could showcase what settings need to be tweaked for certain types of games.
Cool tests. I can't get over how clicky these buttons sound though.
True that 🥲
Thank you for this. Most games run good.
🙌🏼
I just ordered one the other day and the amount of PS2 games that seem to run smoothly makes me so excited to receive mine! thanks for making this vid man, you earned a sub
I have a question, when trnasferring roms, do I need a SD card reader or can I just connect the device directly to my PC via usb C?
Thanks for checking out my video :) Yes, you would need an SD card reader to transfer your roms.
@@bigretrostudiocould I do this transfer w a table
Cable you mean? No, only through sd card
@@EricFriedman-re4gs I hear that you can just plug it directly into your computer. You had any success with this? I'm about to get mine soon! How do you like it?
Amazing video! What can you recommend that can play ps2 without an exorbitant price tag?
Thanks, I would recommend this device itself. It's not perfect for ps2, but you can see all these games are playable. So yes, this is a decent option.
wow thanks for the effort!
I'm glad you enjoyed watching 🙂
Hey man! Loving the content but I have a question do you think mario galaxy an Wii games will play nice in de RP2S?
I haven't tested wii on this, but check out my wii test on rg405m, it'll be more or less the same, even though rg405m has a slightly more powerful chip
Fantastic work here, the price to size to performance ratio is just unheard of.
EDIT: Was this 3gb or 4gb model?
Thanks 😊 it's just 3 gb
Awesome..tahnk you
🙂
Wow you got everything I wanna play working
😎👍🏻
Can you pls put onimusha and ace combat in the future testing? Those 2 series is what i always want to play
I'm glad to see that it actually runs a fair bit of these games well cause I find this way more pocketable than the rp4 pro and it's easier on the wallet too I'm mainly getting this for gc and ps2 cause I already have an rg351p for older systems and anything that this doesn't seem to run I can always just run it on my phone
Good choice!
On The Getaway that white in front of the car isn't meant to be there you can get rid of it if you tweak one of the graphic settings. Took me ages to find it but gone now! :)
Thanks for letting me know :)
Dang, I kept hearing that the rp2s isn't good for ps2, but most of these seem totally playable. I'm so psyched to get mine!!
Nice. Now u gotta do some 3ds and GameCube
3:03 Found the inspiration for the Transformers sound effects 🤣
I sure would love to see them make one of these with that dimensity 900 chip in the rp4
I bet that’s what they do and sell it at the same price 149! with a bezal less 4inch screen while keeping the device the same size would be great . I’d prefer the d pad and analogue stick swapped 2 but that’s just personal preference
@louismontrose8966 yes with 4 inch and swapped stick and dpad this thing would really be perfect and would easily be my fav handheld, it's what I am waiting for and the only reason I haven't gotten an rp4 yet
after hours of binging handheld devices and deciding to choose, this helped me make the final decision and if I had the opportunity, I'd buy this with my own money. Cuz im sold
Great decision 😎👍🏻
It would be cool to see a device in this form factor but with the power of the odin 2. No black bars for certain platforms then I'll just use HDMI out for the 16:9 ratio platforms.
Sounds like a 2024 project for Retroid 😎
@@bigretrostudio I'll hold off on the Odin 2 and focus on my future PC first then. Hopefully the next model will have the same screen size as the RG405M.
Hey I purchased one and I’m waiting on its arrival, just wondering if you have to readjust the settings every time you change to another game or can you save the optimal settings for each game? Thanks!
You will have to change the settings according to the game you play.
Really that sucks
anyway you can show what settings you had set up for most games ? Thanks in advance
I mostly played with these settings depending on the game:
EE Cycle Rate- either 50%/60%/100%
EE Cycle skip - either mild underclock (1)/max overclock or leave default
Multithreaded VU1 - check
Instant VU1 - check

Cool. Did you teast with the 3GB or 4GB RAM model?
3 GB
Interesting, I just saw your “50+ PS2 games tested on RP3+” video and it looks like the RP2S runs some PS2 games better than the more expensive RP3+. How is this possible? Do you think the RP3+ can run these games just as good with some more tweaking?
I’m just curious because I have ordered an RP3+ and I am doing research around compatibility/playability of games on it.
The RP3+ video had some mistakes and corrections, which I mentioned as a pinned comment. RP3+ is equally capable with the same settings as mentioned.
Understood, thank you!
Can’t wait to order mine! Is this on AetherSX2?
Yes, it is. 👍🏻
I got it for PS2 games, I like it, screen kinda small, runs most PS2 games but after an hour or so it overheats like crazy, the screen and the handheld itself then it becomes unresponsive and have to turn it off.
Everything below PS2 works just fine.
That's the absolute limit of this handheld.
The metal has better heat distribution, passive cooling. I believe that's the best version to get if you want to squeeze PS2 games out of this. One reviewer said the metal averaged about 20 degrees C cooler than plastic. That's very significant.
thank you for making this video, I'm just curious, it retroid pocket 2s can play guitar hero 3?
Thanks! I haven't tested it out yet.
@@bigretrostudio I see, thank you, maybe someone else has been tested it, I want to play guitar hero 3 with a tiny budget using this RP2S, since I can't buy android phone because I already have a phone, also can't build some gaming pc because it will cost more than buying this RP2S
Dang it is shocking to see how well these run they seem better than my 3+, is this the 3gb or 4gb model?
Rp3+ is slightly better for some games, this is 3gb
I really wish retroid make the flip one with screen this size. like gameboy SP.
Sounds like a nice concept 👌🏻
Bro, thank you for Black. I want to know, do you use same settings as with RG405V?
You are welcome! Black is a hard game to emulate on this or even rg405v. I mostly played with these settings depending on the game:
EE Cycle Rate- either 50%/60%/100%
EE Cycle skip - either mild underclock (1)/max overclock or leave default
Multithreaded VU1 - check
Instant VU1 - check
Vulkan

Thank you so much, bro.
Did you have to put the games on the system or did you just buy a sd card with them on it and if so what one is this I would love to get me the something like this just don’t know how to do it myself
It's comes with some ps2 games, rest you have to put it yourself. Link is there in the description if you decide to buy one.
I had one of these but nothing was pre-installed like Ambernic regularly does, I can add roms but I couldn’t work this out 🤦🏻♂️
May I know what settings are you using? 😊
Iv pinned it in the comments section.
thanks for this! what settings did you use for Initial D?
Initial D is a pretty easy game to emulate even on default settings, if I could remember. If not, a minor tweak like I mentioned in several other comments would do the trick, but I don't think it's necessary 🙂
@@bigretrostudio ah alright, thank you for the quick reply! unfortunately it isn't running full speed on my 2S, but I might have the wrong version of aethersx2 installed or something. Are you using the one from the playstore or the one that you can install with the retroid setup?
From here github.com/AetherSX2-backup/AetherSX2-builds/tree/master/alpha-3191-3668
@@bigretrostudio thanks again, and thankfully I'm on that version. I think my problem was that I was using fast/unsafe defaults instead of optimal/safe defaults. I switched to optimal/safe and the game definitely runs a lot better, along with the other games I've been trying to get working!
@flonzi that's awesome :)
I love your list i want the same games for mine
😊👍🏻
@@bigretrostudioI'm new to this and I need help on where to get the roms u have on this list....and do they cost money to get them any help would be greatly appreciated thanks bro

What would be the settings for Rachet & Clank?
Iv mentioned the settings in the comments, but I'll be making a dedicated video on this hopefully next week. Please stay tuned, that will be more precise.
Hello, are all these games on the console when you buy it ? thanks :)
Hello, not all of them, only some. If you need help, contact me on Instagram
@@bigretrostudio thank you for your answer :)
Which version are you using aethersx2 3668 or 4248??
3668
Thanks for the video. Would it be possible to test 2 more games? Legacy of Kain - Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance. No need to make another video, you could simply reply to this message. Thanks!
I'm currently on vacation, and I have made some videos in advance and scheduled it for a month actually. I'm sure the legacy of kain will work well. The other one, I'll check it out once I'm back.
@@bigretrostudio thanks for the reply. Joey's handhelds TH-cam channel sent me this spreadsheet with a bunch of tested games, where soul reaver 2 is marked as great. Since both games run on the same engine, I expect both to be playable. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GXFod-UlPqXjA79cjdLwATkmi-v_Yl4rwYsn8lHhmlw/edit?pli=1#gid=380646399
Cool
Thanks :)

I feel like I'm always reading/hearing conflicting things. My understanding before this video was that only something as powerful as an Odin or above could run this many PS2 games this smoothly. I've read that even the Retroid Pocket 3+ and the RG405M--both more powerful than this 2S--could play PS2, but not very reliably (God of War seemed to be the go-to "this game just can't run smoothly on handhelds"). Then there's this video where the 2S looks amazing and God of War looks smooth. So confused right now; why does this very reasonably priced device work so well? And why do ones that are twice the price seem to not perform better than what I see in this video? I'm interested in potentially getting an Odin 2, but am I just being misinformed about what kind of performance I can get out of things much cheaper? Also: thank you for sharing!
Edit: I see in the last minute or so that there are a lot of games that lag quite a bit, but I nonetheless feel like this is way more powerful than it was made to sound and still calls into question spending twice as much on other things.
Thanks for your comment. As far as I tested, this chip is similar in performance to a T618, which the retroid pocket 3+ and the anbernic rg405m has. The thing is, most people don't take the trouble to tweak much or spend time for each game to see which settings work best. If you want to get a perfect emulation for ps2, get the Odin as it has a more powerful chip. This chip is only for people who have the patience to tweak and make the most out of the price they paid for. Iv put all the playable games in the beginning (which itself won't be perfect in others books as every Game that I mentioned as works well is not going to be super smooth, it's just the most acceptable in my books as playable or categorized as works well. ) later, I've shown which lags a bit, then laggy, too laggy and unplayable. Hope the time and effort I put into these videos helps everyone. :)
Thanks for the info on the specs, that does help. I of course want to consider every possibility, and if I can save money in the process, that’s great, but I will probably cave and end up with the Odin 2 because the extra money will be worth it for how much you can do. Outside of perfect PS2, knowing I can do Wii is huge because I’ve never actually played any Wii and have lots to look forward to. Thanks for your videos!
Iv tested wii on rg405m and a handheld, which is somewhere in the middle in terms of performance, a bit better than rg405m, and not as powerful as Odin is the KT-R1. I've tested some on it too, you can check out those 2 videos to get an idea :)
I fully agree with what you just said. This is honestly good news to me that the 2S performs this well because I'd like to play gameboy games with no black borders. I'd just use HDMI out with a Bluetooth controller for the 16:9 games instead.
The 2S is unbelievably impressive for the price. In fact, it's probably the best price to performance ratio out there. I think for me personally, splurging on something $300+ is gonna be the way to go, but if I didn't already have a Rg35xx and a jailbroken 3DS, I would absolutely buy one of these.@@lucykaede5863
Hi, what emulator are you using?
Aethersx2
I know its a android device but how do you put ps2 and gba games on it
Reach out to me on Instagram.
Psx2 or nethersx2 is the newest version for PS2. Pretty great program! You can use a phone from a few years back that can run most games decently. I have a pixel 4a but tablets work good too.
Hi 👋
For this price range which is the best machine to run PS2 games? Thank you
For this price range, only this.
@@bigretrostudio thank you so much. Im looking for a device to mainly play Midnight Club 3. Im also considering an android phone. Do you have any feedback about it?
Check out Odin 2 but it's more expensive.
@@bigretrostudio thank you, I understand.
If all these games work on this device then they will definitely run on rg405m, right?
I want to know too 😢
Yes, I have done similar gameplay for rg405m, with and without gamma os installed.
Is this the same chip as the orange pi 5 or similar
This has a T610 chipset.
@@bigretrostudio is that stronger than the Rk3588s
How come GTA SA looks smoother on this compared to RP3+?? Is it smoother or is it just the same?
It's the same performance, depends on how you tweaks the settings
how did you tweak the settings on this device cuz it looks very different. Thanks~!@@bigretrostudio
Iv mentioned it in the comments as a pinned comment.
How Do You Run PS2 Games On Full Speed
I made a tutorial video, please watch that.
If dark cloud 1 and 2 worked okay I'd replace my rp2+ immediately
Are you gonna order a Ayn Odin?
Not unless I get a review unit
Is this console capable of multiplayer?
Yes
How did you manage to run ratchet e clank on it?
Iv mentioned my settings on the comments
@@bigretrostudiowhich comment.. you should pin it so everyone Will easy to find it
@ioriaquanature done ✔️
Its 0,5x resulution ?
Resolution was on default, I don't remember because this video was taken a month ago.
What the heck this plays God of War smoothly? I thought this would suck with PS2 and that I'd need an Odin 2 instead.
It all depends on how you tweak the settings 😊
I’ve ordered both.
I assume the Odin will be my go to for the higher end stuff, and it’s nice to know I can play certain games on the rp2s, however I no longer have the time to tinker so I wanted something where I can just play out of the box. I am very surprised to see how many games run smoothly on this though, pleasantly surprised.
@@kulatev That's very convenient to hear honestly. Does it really feel and look high quality like they say in reviews? Also, is the black borders bearable when playing games not 16:9?
I love how all the stock photos show this nice crisp and clean clear green shell, but when you get it in person there is this huge brownish/olive colored rectangle in the lower right that looks UGLY and sticks out like a sore thumb.
Lol, its like you are going to McDonald's and asking I want the burger to look exactly like the picture they show on top 😅
@@bigretrostudio Stock photos don't show the UGLY brown rectangular eyesore that clashes with the rest of the unit. 😆
To be honest, I never noticed that until you pointed it out now. I think overall, it's a decent built for a budget device compared to a lot of other ones out there in a similar price range.
@@bigretrostudio On Retroid's own website if you zoom in on the clear green one, you can see they deceptively hid that god-awful brown rectangle from their images. I can easily see why now. After watching some TH-cam videos and seeing some photos on eBay it is quite apparent and alarming at just how disgusting it makes the device look overall. I was looking forward to the clear green one too. Not anymore. Unless there is a way to open it up and put a piece of green tape over it to kind of hide it and make the device look more uniform maybe?
I think that's the ribbon cable that's connected to the display screen.
Does it come with the games on it? Or do u need to pirate them? If so where
You will have to buy additional SD card for games.
Wow
Is this with 3gb or 4gb ram?
3gb

@SalmanAwan464 definitely this one, much more powerful than rg353v
