'China May Provoke Some Incident With India As A Face Saving Escape'

  • The coming US presidential elections will be closely watched all over the world, more so in China where the top leadership is counting heavily on the defeat of President Trump and the victory of Joe Biden. Trump is seen as the architect of the rapid "economic de-coupling" resulting in the world turning away from China and seeking alternatives.
    In an exclusive chat with StratNews Global, Prof. Yen Jien-Fa of Chien Hsin University in Taiwan, says President Xi Jinping's position will be weakened if Trump returns. This does not mean he has any rivals in the Communist Party, but his authority and policies will be increasingly questioned. In Prof Yen's view, Xi's position will be fragile.
    He believes India has shown consistency and a strong hand in the current standoff with China in Ladakh. China may provoke some incident maybe here, maybe elsewhere if only to give itself a face-saving way out of the current situation there. China is not interested in a military conflict with India, this border is of less strategic importance to Beijing than the South China Sea and its littoral neighbors.
    Xi Jinping has got himself trapped into this situation owing to the authoritarian nature of the system he presides over. His advisors are largely hawks driven by some vision of China's past greatness. Xi himself being a product of the Cultural Revolution, is driven by conflict and the urge to dominate. Prof Yen says he is not optimistic about China's future.

      Like I read it somewhere, 2010 Indian census registry stated there's over ten 10 million Muslims and four 4 million illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in Assam State in North-East. Nepal & North-East India used to be a land of Chinese looking Mongoloid Asiatic indigenous Native people, but now they have became minority on their own beloved mother land as South Asians took over. What's next, Tibet and Myanmar?
      Besides, Muslims & others in South Asia are ethnically, culturally and religiously more akin to those general population in Arabian Peninsula; countries such as Yemen, Saudi, United Arab Emirates, Omen, Qatar, etc. Just saying. South Asians are ethnically, culturally and religiously more akin to those general population in Arabian Peninsula; thus easier for them to assimilate into mainstream society.

    It's in world's interest for every responsible democracy to take cognizance of the threat of disruptions to global supply chains right now. India's startups overly depend on Chinese investments. Extremely important for India to have a preemptive plan to deter China's diamond necklace strategy, work with allies to protect its own startup and supply chain situations. Also time for India to take steps to become a manufacturing superpower.

      I dare because I'm right.
      I dare because those families WILL BE used as bargaining chips.
      If you had family members there, wouldn't you be hounding them to leave??? AND they're in a country that UNLEASHED this virus.
      Oh. Maybe they don't get the news in China. Right?
      Go invite a homeless person INTO your house, then come talk. Or, see your mother take off her gold bangles and give them towards the war effort against the Chinese in 1962.

    Excellent thoughts from Prof. Yen. Nicely articulated too. And very sane advise for countries around it to now turn the tables and gain advantages. Effectively employing the Chinese tactic of fishing in troubled waters on China!.
    One clarification sir. You mention the India border is not of strategic importance and the cost benefit analysis doesn’t permit a war now. You are right from a near term perspective. But with the South China sea becoming a potential hotspot with lurking competent adversaries that have a potential to blockade it, China’s only other trade route is through the Karakoram Highway that is part of the CPEC. With India building its infrastructure near Daulat Beg Oldy, the DSDBO highway provides the Indian military access to the section of the Tibet-Xinjaing highway that passes through Aksai Chin making the CPEC vulnerable. India would be the only country which can choke two important trade routes in and out of China in the Expresway 219 and Malacca Straits. So wouldn’t China be thinking of denying India this capability to protect its long term strategic diversification of trade routes? Is the committing of a large posse of troops on the Indo Tibetian border, an indication of the strategic importance China gives to this thought?
    Two other alternate thoughts emerge from the fact that Chinese armed forces being spread over several fronts. One, is it is a reaction rather than an action (initiated by China) to the two-prong attack co-ordinated by India, US and the littoral South China sea states?
    Second, no General would spread his forces thin, even if it land based forces at one end and sea based forces at another, because it occupies a lot of mindspace on the civil & military leadership. So is this an indication that Xi Jinping doesn’t enjoy the abject loyalty that he demands from PLA and hence is keeping the PLA busy over several fronts with a view to preventing a challenger to his position? It also leaves XI and his ministers save China through diplomacy, discredit the disgruntled PLA internally within the power structure and consolidate his position.

    Beijing will loose it's grip over vast regions. Major parts of the eastern seaboard especially the south East will increasingly become autonomous and under the economic influence of Japanese, Koreans, Taiwanese and Singapore.
    Tibet will become free if supported by India, Thailand etc.

    The good Professor from Taiwan made it amply clear that India is NOT THE Focus of the Chinese Government or the PLA..It is singularly focused on the US..Also illuminating was that if China is not becoming overly aggressive in Ladakh the reason is not India but US keeping them honest in the south china sea..yet at the same time the Authoritarian regime which provoke an incident at the Ladakh border purely for domestic consumption but will not prolong the battle with India..short skirmishes are to Indias advantage ..however it depends on the platform China uses..if it goes in for contactless war thru SSMs that is serious escalation

      India can probably take Aksai Chin, but they'll never hold it for long. Even if it tried, it would suck the Indian economy so dry it would bankrupt its future growth , inability to invest in infrastructure and hurt it's children. Military spending is extremely expensive and always comes at the cost of the economy, a great example of that is the United States, which has a great military but most of its citizens live in second class developing world economic conditions. India is in a far far worse condition economically than the US, which now trails China. So can India take Aksai Chin? The heroism and valor of the great Indian soldiers, especially the Sikhs, can be commended. But the fact of the matter is, it will cost so many Indian lives, and the lives of its children, that India may win the battle, but lose the war and set it back a generation.

    China’s strength lies in its domination of export market. In 2019 China’s exports were 2499 billios while imports were 1610 billion Dollars,giving China a trade surplus of 889 billion Dollars. This surplus is what gives muscles to China’s assertive policy.In comparison India’s total exports in 2019 was 331 billion dollars.Only two categories ;Electrical m/c & other m/cs account for US$ 1088 billion exports. This is achieved through Govt. funding & subsidies. If we want to hurt china this is the area to attack. CCP has factories of thinktanks full of talented people and you can trust them to come up with very novel mischief. While the Indian and Taiwanese stands is mutually benefiting it will be best to let Xi commit to a course of action and compromise himself. After all he is more desperate for a solution then us.

    ---Separated Eastern Pakistan from Pakistan to become Bangladesh in 1971;

    ---Swallowed up Sikkim to become one of its states in 1975;
    ---Tried to invade Mauritius but failed in 1983;

    its Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984;
    ---Invaded Sri Lanka in 1987;
    ---1st time invaded Bhutan and failed in 1990, but has controlled its defense and
    diplomatic affairs till now;
    ---Supported and financed the terrorist organization Tamil LTTE to rebel against Sri Lanka government

      @Lady Anon In your view, India can do any bullying things and invasion to its neighbor countries, but people have to keep silent like Bhutan and Sikkim. What a bully.

      @Varun Shekhar India claims the universe belongs to India because an ancient India lived in the universe though the country India started in 1947. I believe sooner or later Indian aggression and greed for lands of its neighbor countries will kill itself.

      @Varun Shekhar You said Bhutan has a treaty with India. My reply is during WW2, when Hitler asked Jewish people if they liked Nazi, the answer was absolutely Yes. Under Indian aggression and threatening, dare Bhutan people say No to India? Regarding Sikkim, before it was annexed by India, it was a UN recognized sovereignty country, but India had done nasty things for years like prejudice treaty on immigration, labor market, oil/gas, media, telecommunication, defense, etc. and then when proper time came India manipulated referendum to swallow it up. India is doing the same things to Bhutan and Nepal. Sympathy and love to Bhutan, Nepal, Sikkim and other Indian neighbor countries.
