    My wife can not understand how I can sit in my man cave and just stare at the walls full of Star Wars toys. I really am not totally sure what I am thinking but it feels gooooood to know I have toys from the early 80s

    I was an 80's kid. GI Joes were my favorite! Back then I modeled on stage at the mall a couple times and won. Winners received toy certificates. I remember buying He- Man. That smell of rubber, meaning brand new. Anytime I smell that same rubber smell it immediately brings me back to the 80's. You have an awesome collection!

    Wow, your whole story about being a Toysrus kid of the 1980's and your thoughts about the 1980's and what has happened to toys and attitudes are almost identical to mine. My dream has been to someday recreate Toysrus from the 1980's for myself. I have collected a closet full of sealed Gi Joes, WWF Hasbro and others from the old days but I haven't put a room together yet, but someday I will. You are an inspiration. You are awesome dude.

    Hey, I’m here because of Rebel Force Radio. Mind blowing stuff!
    I grew up in Yugoslavia and we had to go to Italy or Austria to get toys like LEGOs, which were the only expensive toys my parents decided to buy for me, because we didn’t have money to spare and after seeing how creative I got with LEGOs, they saw the value in them. Just looking at LEGO catalogs gave me hours of pleasure and daydreaming. 80s really was a special decade.

    as an '80s child growing up in England, this was my bread & butter!! Without doubt my fav toyline was M.A.S.K., but like you my parents couldn't (or wouldn't!) afford to feed the collection, so I too dreamed of what it would be like to own them (aside from the ones I got bought at birthdays/Christmas) and cherish them without ever doing so....I lived in a part of Greater Manchester called Middleton. There was a huge Arndale centre in town and at the back of it was a kinda supermarket mum used to shop in and on one specific aisle was just rows and rows of toys where I used to lose myself! There was also another store (John Menzies?) that used to have toys right at the back....ahhhh, the memories!
    Now, at 45 I can really appreciate your collection and what you've done, how you've recaptured the magic of your childhood and the fact your wife has helped and supported it is just as awesome! Fantastic, just way too cool; thank you for sharing and re-igniting blissful childhood memories :)

    @tysonlehner6759 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I work at a Toys R Us here in Canada and while I agree I don’t necessarily feel that magic in the store any more either. I can happily say the kids still do. That’s the best part of my job, seeing the little kids sprint ahead of their parents to get to the door and run to the section they know their favourite toys are. And seeing the joy as they stare in amazement at their hero’s.

  • @Dra6nheart

    WOW, I'm going to have to watch your other parts of your tour! I had a least 1 things out of everything you are covering right now. I remember the day my mom sold my Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors base at a garage sale she had. Those toys bring back so many memories.

  • @agiammarco94
    @agiammarco94 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the thing that 80s toys has is the creativity. Everything looks cool, colourful, and has creative designs. Most things now a days are based on something else, and there’s been a bit of a change of focus from children to a more collector oriented market.

  • @brandonkeisler86
    @brandonkeisler86 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Last year I began putting together a collection like yourself. Just what was magical to me as a child and obviously still burns within me today. Mostly JOES, TRANSFORMERS, and MASK. I love your message about not settling in a relationship with someone that doesn't empathize with your desires. I was in a relationship for a long time where I felt drained most of the time because I don't think I was truly able to be myself around them. Now I'm so much happier. Thanks 🙏 for the video!

    I just discovered your channel and I absolutely love it! I was born in 1977, so the 80's was my playground and I remember all of the lines that you talk about on your channel! I loved Star Wars, GI Joe, Wheeled Warriors, Transformers, MASK, He-Man, MUSCLE, Battle Beasts, Thundercats and TMNT, as well as a few others, but those mentioned are my absolute favorites! I still have a few of my toys as well, but like many others, many were given away after I passed them on to my little brothers. This is actually the first video I saw from your channel. It popped up on my feed after watching a few Toys 'R' Us demise related videos. Your museum room set up is more Toys 'R' Us than Toys 'R' Us Has been in the past 2 decades. The lighting and the set up all perfectly recaptures the feeling of an 80s Toys 'R' Us. There is just a warm and fuzzy feeling when watching all these virtual tours. Excellent Work!

      @MichaelMercy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! So glad to hear that. I love that I'm able to share it with fellow 'Toys R Us kids' who grew up in the same era as me. There are some younger people who don't get it and some who even go so far as to make personal attacks, and I just feel sorry for them. Empty inside and dying for attention. Not willing to do anything positive to get it. With the mass sadness of TRU closing down, I'm glad I can share this little piece of it frozen in time with those who saw it first hand. :D

    Going into a toys rus will be something ill never forget. When i was a kid alot of things similar to these where still there. I remember the whole G I joe isle, the massive amounts of lego, and overall just was amazingly cool. Went in there a few weeks ago to get a lego train to recapture of some of that old magic for me. Rest in peace toys r us.

    This is absolutely stunning, every collectors dream to have a display room like this! So many times I remember being in toy stores and seeing walls of carded figures and being told 'no, its too close to your birthday/xmas' or 'if I buy you one I have to buy your brother one so no'. It made the times I did get something all the more special though! ;-)

      I remember hearing that too! Luckily my mom didn't have an issue with early birthday presents. "You play with it now, you play with it later, what's the difference?" :D

    Was born in 1981 so this room gives me nostralgia-gasms.
    Watching the camera pan around was like running into childhood friends on the street that I haven't seen in more than 25 years.
    The 80's had it's flaws, but it did a few things right, and toys were one of them. I can totally identify with how this guy felt walking into a Toys 'R Us back in the day.
    So amazing, thanks for posting this.

    I am from Ontario too! I lived up in northern Ontario in Thunder Bay. There is really only small towns in northern Ontario and it's like a 15 hour drive to Toronto. I remember the first time I was in a Toys R Us in the 80s we had gone down to Duluth Minnesota for my dad to see family and we got to go to Toys R Us there. I never seen a store so big and with so many toys, I was in awe! I got a wwf board game from that store. It was awesome.

    Your intro was superb! You're right, just getting to a toy store to simply look was amazing. I grew up in a small Minnesota town. We had NO toy stores. Seeing toys in a store took a trip to the Twin Cities that was rarely made. In the early 70s and on into the 80s, department store Christmas catalogs were the rage. A very enjoyable video!

    Thanks for sharing. My childhood nostalgia is also of looking at the toy shelves and admiring all the great 80s toy lines. In fact I never got to own a Transformer but I remember very vividly the beautiful Transformer boxes. Megatron's in particular was very impressive.

    • @MichaelMercy
      @MichaelMercy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They sure don't make box art like they used to. It was like going to an art gallery in the 80's with the beautiful personalized card and box art each GI Joe and Transformer got.

    I love your description of how you felt walking into Toys R Us.
    For me in the 70’s it was Child World Toy Store in Massachusetts
    I remember how the toy store smelled and seeing Evel Knievel Toys in their boxes and cool plastic Marx Machine Guns! I have a “ toy room “ in my home it’s a time capsule. I’ve been collecting for about 30 years now I’m 53.
    As Willy Wonka beautifully said
    “It’s a world of pure imagination” We are collectors who bring to “life” our most cherished memories in our toy rooms.
    Thanks for sharing your iconic collection and the narration was magical ✌🏽

    You are one of the reason i have started my gi joe collection.🙂 I live in Sweden and I am collecting right now the gi joes i wanted when i was a kid in the 80s. Cant get them all as the tolls from the U.S and Canada are quite high but maybe one day i will have a little museum of my own of gi joes.🙂 Keep up your dream and thank you. Namaste.🙏
