So over three years after The Last of Us 2 and its ending we know Naughty Dog is working on multiple single projects at the moment! PlayStation and Sony are laying off 900 staff across Naughty Dog, Insomniac, and other studios! What does this mean for Naughty Dog as this is the second pair of layoffs in the last 4 months. With The Last of Us Multiplayer Game Cancelled and these happening after Could this mean The Last of Us Part 3 or their new IP video game be in trouble?! I am very nervous about the future of Naughty Dog after hearing this ): Let's go for 1000 Likes!

As a professional 3D Environment Artist in the games industry, I can tell you we are all struggling to find jobs rn. The industry is currently going through a massive restructuring internally which has made it difficult for my fellow artists and I to find jobs. All I can say is this is only temporary, things will get better in the coming months/years.

@@user-ky7ij8cf3g not at all tbh. Most ppl at studios still consider it a joke as it exists right now, especially when it comes to anything 3d. It’s good for creating lots of mediocre work quickly but nothing AAA studios would consider acceptable quality. We r aware of how rapidly it is developing and are keeping a close eye on new developments as they come to stay up to date on industry trends though. I imagine it will become an issue in a few years maybe, especially if it continues to grow evolve as quickly as it has been over the past couple years, hope this helps :)

Seriously ? They just went through this, not long ago. They’re just gonna make work on Part 3 and their new IPs harder for the employees they still have.

I don't think they have much of a choice if they want to keep from firing more people and going under. Games have to be sold and if they want people to buy consoles there have to be games.

For all we know Neil/Naughty Dog have been lying to us which would be expected cuz any major project/series a studio makes will be kept secret. How many movies and/or shows have been denied by directors, producers, actor etc and it was in the works all along?
@@jacobross735 it is, tlou 2 grounded "serie", the creator of tlou said that it was in development, but still, something that would prob come in 2026-2027 will prob just come around 2029

Feel sorry for those workers; as someone who worked for 5 years building up a developer career just for someone to fire me 6 months after I started in my last tech company (over hiring issue) is just gut punching. Yes there are worse things and yes at the end of the day I’ll get another job but mental/physical health get bad and financial worries brim and boil …. You forget that things *could* get better because at present you can’t even afford rent!
I sincerely hope this doesn’t keep happening to developers all over the world (as well as anyone who’s just started a job and have been told that they’ll be let go)
This is truly absolutely horrible, I hope all of the developers at Naughty and every developer at these game studios are doing alright and hang in there going forward 🙏

This is trending is the studio world too. Not just video games, but film and tv show production. Everyone is cracking down. Games are becoming longer, harder to produce, etc…this is just shorter version for saying: “unfortunately we can no longer pay you for your services and most services are no longer needed.” The studios can’t pay staff cause it’s getting so damn expensive to make a game, they want as few people as possible. It sucks for everyone who is about to loose their jobs. Everyone’s livelihood is at state now. Nobody is safe.

i don't want to be the bear of bad news it wouldn't shock me if the new ip is cancelled or takes even longer to make.
This is my two cents on the matter I could be wrong but one of the major reasons games are struggling now is because video games are trying to become or rival cinematic movies games some literally cost the same amount as a blockbuster movie to make which is nice but not always necessary i.e tlou rdr2 and eventually gta6.
Then depending on who you ask sometimes with western developers you got people talking about politics on both sides
I.e
In Days gone various journalist complain about Deacon's character and in the tlou universe people complain about Abby's character both case's right or wrong cause future games in the series to either be shelved indefinitely or delayed maybe both games has genuine shortcomings but sometimes it's politics that could help bring games to a grinding halt.
Another possibility could be franchise fatigue stories not coming to a conclusion stories over staying their welcome remasters remake's and so on are nice but sometimes companies are just rethreading through old Waters i.e resident evil
Yes it's nice to see a modern rendition of resident evil games but the experience is sometimes downgraded with Minor improvements i.e resident evil 2 remake has a relentless stalker enemy but the A.B scenario has been downgraded and the zapping system gone where as re3 make nemesis isn't a main focus point as only relegated to scripted encounters even tho he's the main focus point then they got rid of the alternate endings which is a key thing in the o.g the re3make was just basically overpriced DLC and to think all these games take years at a time to make or is heavily rushed to cut down production time thus tarnishing the experience no matter which way you take major example of being rushed was cyberpunk but this is just my two cents as stated I could be wrong feel free to agree or disagree.

Not surprised. The current economic situation, you can't keep some employees and grow closer to bankruptcy. Hopefully this doesn't impact future plans but only time will tell.

I feel for everyone who got laid off. Times are tough right now for anything tech related, especially in entertainment. ND is one of my favorite studios as every game they release is a banger which is why it’s an instant day1 purchase. Hate to see this news
First and foremost, the most unfortunate thing about this is people losing their jobs. Everything else is a distant second.
That being said, yes this sucks. It is really a bad surprise that Sony couldn’t make enough PS5s for the demand for TWO FULL YEARS plus and yet somehow they are having problems?? Sounds like mismanagement.
So, yes this sucks and I think this will set us back time wise on both new IP and TLOU 3.
The only real good thing I can take away from this is that TLOU I’m sure has made the studio and SONY a fortune so this might be impetus to lean on your golden goose and ultimate heavy hitter, especially given success of the tv show.
That is the other thing on our side. Is that the show will dictate at some point that a new game must be released so I’m going with (a hopeful) 2028 release TLOU 3.
Keep up the great work Bomb and the very best for those folks that lost their jobs in the industry.

Why would Naughty Dog need to lay people off? Every project they work on is massive success, both critically and financially. Last of us 2 in particular is the fastest selling playstation game of all time, and the HBO series is universally considered to be the best video game adaptation to a live action series. If anything they should be hiring more people.
The crunch. The time of developing the sequel. The inmense ammount of money they spent thru years to create the game was absurd. And how it ended? It undermined the trust in a lot of ppl. Those remakes also contributed to this situation. They spent money like maniacs

No matter how hard i try, there are zero games in the PS4 or PS5 that i enjoy playing other than Naughty Dog games! I would rather play TLOU and TLOU2 over and over and over again than any new PS5 game. I even tried playing the Horizon games on my PS5 but I keep hearing Mel and it’s such a buzz kill I can’t play her anymore. Please, please, PLEASE make TLOU3 or the new game that everyone keeps talking about. Please please !
