Don't devide the number in front of the decimal for the root before looking for the anti-log. Great teaching nonetheless. I really enjoy the energy you bring to the virtual classroom.
Are you talking about the difference of the antilog? The integer only determines where the decimal point will be! 2..5656 will have 235.67, 1.5678 will have antilog of 45.897 and 0.9876 will give antilog of 5.765 all assumption. Cheers!

Thanks so much! Teflon for your feedback. We actually did the addition operation in the characteristics too. Remember we carried over 1 to make that 1 = 2. So 2+ (-2) = 2 - 2 which is 0. Recall in mathematics - times + = -. Hope this answers your question! Cheers!

If you have done that, we are looking for the log value of 86.21 that is 86 under 2, with a difference of 1. Go to the logarithms of numbers, under column x you will see 86. Next, look for column 2, if you have seen it, check the value on the row of that 86 i.e. under 2, you will see 9355. Have you seen it? Good! go to the difference column by the right, have you seen it? under column 1 check the value on the row of 86, you will see 1. Now add the 1 to 9355 that will give you 9356, right?
