I enjoy where Wild Manes is going as it's more like a slice-of-life and comfy format, however, there is still more they can add to make it more interesting.
honestly, this show reminds me of a mix of my little pony and strawberry shortcake, which isn’t a bad thing at all. this show has to be directed at the my little pony audience, 100%. i think their goal was to be similar enough to the show to get people talking about it, preferably to get the names “my little pony” and “wild manes” in the same sentence to get attention to the show, but not too similar to cause a lawsuit
Hmm, I picture my ponysona as a unicorn with a mathematical cutie mark (digital 24), maybe the Wild Manes equivalent would be a hexagonal mane pattern.
No, and in fact, you are correct. On its own, it is horribly cheap, generic and soulless. I hate it, but compared to G5, it is superior, i would state.
I personally love the fact they look more like horsies than MLP does, yet manage to still make it very cartoonish and silly. Also the merch is absolutely stunning, genuinely could be better than Hasbro lmao. ALSO BAILEY BEST HORSE🔥🔥
From my own perspective, Wild manes is a mishmash of different generations of MLP - the characters’ body designs are reminiscent of G2 ponies, the characters’ personalities are clearly based off some G4 characters as you mentioned (Bailey is Applejack and Rainbow Dash, and Candi is Pinkie), The episodes have G3 style storylines, and all topped off with G5 Tell Your Tale animation. I’ve watched all the episodes so far, and whilst I know I’m not the target audience, I have gotten several chuckles from watching it, and I will definitely keep,on watching.
As a lady who grew up with MLP G1, G3 in primary school days & is also a massive fan of G4 until adult hood.... I am VERY glad Wild Manes exist!! This and Unicorn Academy are the kinds of show horse girls and doll/toy collectors such as myself have been craving for a while... The show brings that childlike, carefree and unapologetically girly charm a lot of girlies grew up with in the 2000s (Wild Manes reminded me a lot of Horseland and strawberry Shortcake vibes alongside G1. 5 & G3 MLP in specific). I will say that in terms of target audience as the show and characters are its going to be more likely that the fandom or fans of Wild Manes will be oriented to the toy/doll collector community (which is usually a whole separate demographic than the brony/MLP G4 fanbase) and nostalgic horse fans which are dominated by the girlies since thats how it was during MLP G1-G3 era -- said eras was a very toy-oriented and focused franchise before G4 switches things up and makes the toys follow the show instead. So while show-wise Wild Manes is simply fun, ok and child friendly its usually enough to charm horse girls and doll/toy collectors to go and buy them (can say its true cause the same happened to me first time seeing G3 on the shelves with colorful ponies and magic✨). I do hope that the shorts and stories are developed better though cause there is a lot of potential, and so far story-wise this pales in comparison to Unicorn Academy which has a lot more going on in the show following the adapted source
I’ve been watching, and I think it’s a cute show. I like that they are horses and they actually do look like horses. It is a neat little show that’s a mix of generations. The stories are simple and easy to follow. Wild Manes has the potential to be great so far.
noo bc itd be so cool for that, like imagine they expanded the lore and cultures like they did with mlp but there are different magic systems and creatures, its so exciting to think about!
i love how unabashedly girly these designs are lol with fim you could tell they were cartoon characters first, then toys but it’s vice versa with them.. i especially love how big and voluminous the manes are
I don’t mind the flashback tactic for these episodes, especially as a fan of Captain Underpants (where, just in case someone isn’t familiar, some stories would start in the middle before going “but before I can tell you this story, we have to tell you this instead”). I like Wild Manes so far and am happy that we’re getting more horse shows. I’m sure it’ll have some more fans but we’ll see if there is a fandom. The toys look really neat, I especially love the articulation and I’m definitely getting one when they release!
Same, I don't mind that specific element of the episodes but it's not really my favorite show regardless of whether or not they do well (mostly because I'm not the target audience and Lego Friends: Girls On A Mission entertains me more than shows with ponies or horses) Girls On A Mission has at least one episode that uses the flashback tactic pretty well and I think it's more engaging because it's higher stakes (I believe the episode is called Into The Woods which is about one of the main characters saying goodbye to her older brother since he's leaving for college and there's a forest fire later on which has her remember the encouragement the brother gave her)
I enjoy it. No long musicals, the colors are pleasing to look at. The show is extremely vanilla and tame, there are a few things they could improve on but overall they're doing their best. I adore Coco breaking the forth wall to talk to the audience. In my opinion this is better than whatever G5 is cooking because we're still suffering as of now so this show is all we can get to hold us down.
36:24 when i was younger i grew up with mlp but i also had a horse phase where i collected normal horse figurines, so yeah! i think horses just have that appeal.
I haven't watched the show yet, but it seems ok. Now, the toys? I NEED them! They're way more my thing than what MLP has, and I think the designs are fun! I like that they have more natural colors (Candi isn't actually an exception, the white and her outfit just make her pink streaks pop out)
I saw an episode of this randomly pop up! I'm glad I took the chance to watch it, because I genuinely enjoyed it. It was very nice! I especially LOVE the designs of every character!
I completely agree about how the backgrounds are so empty, it subconsciously made me a bit uncomfortable, but I love the designs they’re really pretty. My biggest problem with the show, is that every episode starts off at the end, we get the plot at the very beginning, which is alright done every now and then, but every episode it gets old really fast and feels a bit lazy. Honestly I think this show is pretty good, it doesn’t feel like a rip off to me, and I feel like it’s just cliche and not rip off, the super girly fashion girl and the Tom boy, I don’t really feel like it’s ripping off Rarity or Rainbow Dash. I think it’s alright, definitely for kids but not so much it’s completely dumbed down. It doesn’t hurt to watch it since all the vids combined are about the runtime of a single episode of My Little Pony.
the 4th wall breaking is a bit iffy to me- I think it should be reserved for the one with a literal vlogging channel. I've definitely outgrown being the audience for this show BUT I'm glad it exists!!!
Candy (or is it Candi?) is basically if Pinkie and Rarity had a secret child nobody in mlp: fim knew about, she would basically be their secret child by the way she acts and also having the same color palette between the two when it comes to their manes and body 😂. Although Pinkie is a psychopath with her hair straight, Candy has that sociopathic energy that reminds me of Pinkie’s mentality when her hair is straight 🤣.
good video, also loved the flower your wearing, as for Wild Manes it looks ok, I do hope the character designs get better, but as for the toys they look honestly really good I may buy some
On the topic of character design, yes some horses in real life can be hard to tell apart sometimes, even when you know them very well (We once had two horses at one of the barns I work at that looked like identical twins aside from one having a sock on a leg the other didn't.), but if they absolutely have to go with the more realistic colours approach they could do a much better job at it. The image you show at 36:17 is a perfect example! Not only are all those horses in that image different colours but they are also all different breeds, or at least have some difference in their face and body shape (with the exception of the black and bay horses which are clearly the same model just recoloured). There's over 400 horse breeds to choose from with a massive rainbow of different colours, patterns and markings to choose from to make their characters stand out more and be not only more unique from each other, but also MLP as well, as MLP rarely gave any characters markings with some exceptions like Pipsqueak and Hitch. As the show stands right now, it looks like a diet Horseland with the colourful streaks in the manes and tails, but even then, Horseland still had better character variety in their horses despite also doing a more realistic colours approach for the horses. Every horse being a completely different colour.
Also, lol, I appreciate you also theorizing on Coco's 4th wall dissonance. I felt like something was askew, too, but I never did anything but chat and murmur about it. I kinda hope this goes into cloud coocoo land with complete craclfics over this
To me it is. The mares being horses instead of ponies is a nice little change of pace from MLP as cute and adorable as they are. The setting premises of the episodes so far are very reminiscent of TYT. The character designs are nice and cute too. They’re really beautiful and pretty in my opinion.
I absolutely adore this show I think it’s super cute and I loooveee the toys too!! I do feel it has some similarities to MLP but not too many and it has its own unique identity that i very much love. plus i’m a huge fan of the more horse-like style as horses are my fav animal !!
Honestly, I feel a lot of things: I think Wild Manes has great art style, I think it is a bit too simplish even for the intended audience... but there is something about the characters that, if their personalities were expanded a bit I'd likt a L O T. I want it to succeed too, and want them to try to make something that can be enjoyed by many. At the same time I also hope Hasbro can figure out how to make MLP fresh while still keeping many of the planning/outlining/designing aspects of making FiM that helped make it succeed the way it did/Wild Manes kicks Hasbro in the ass to get their shit in gear.,
I've watched every episode so far. It's alright. Obviously, they're trying to find their footing. These are short episodes, and they don't seem to have a big budget. They don't have much personality, unfortunately. I'd like to know more about their setting, but since it's a short show it seems like they would really benefit from character interactions. Building up the characters, who they are, their relationship with each other, etc. I think the biggest downside is that it's so short and they really have to rush a lot of things. Maybe if this show gets a bit more of an audience they could probably do 10-minute episodes I think that will benefit them well. But right now all they really have is the art style. I'm not expecting nor do I want this to be the replacement of My Little Pony. But I do hope this show has enough time and given a chance to truly grow and flourish into its own thing.
I never noticed the 'timeline changes' between cold opens and explanations, though empty backgrounds are the sort of thing that really catches my attention. While I feel doubt that there's any iceberg building being done by the writers, it's still fun to entertain the thought. 24:51 😉 I wouldn't consider the show strong enough to have a distinct fandom- especially when, as you said, the longevity of the IP is questionable when the world and characters don't have a trait that makes it all stand out from the rest of Western kids animation, but it's clearly a wait and see sort of thing. Maybe there is somehow some marketing theory where the show doesn't aim to explode in popularity because fads always crash and cause sales to collapse, or something.
On the topic of candy I don’t actually find her to be similar to pinkie. I actually find her to be more like g3 Minty. Well generally Wild manes as a whole feels like g3😊
Man, Jakks Pacific, now thats a prolific name. Everything from hotwheels to monster trucks to TONKA, if at any point it was on TV, theres a good chance Jakks had a hand in it, they were even in the Toys R Us market.
The wild manes toys are better quality then anything Hasbro/basic fun has ever produced and that makes me mad at Hasbro/basic fun! Also what the heck is this trend with cartoons and toys (specially those aimed at girls) doing tie ins with Roblox?! Seriously! First it was just miraculous, then littlest pet shop joined in, then the newest winx club reboot and now wild manes?! What’s next? Barbie?! This is bad because Roblox is known to be filled with creeps!
The art style honestly reminds me of Horse Land more than MLP with the realistic colors with mane highlights. The little outfits are cute but I think different coat patterns would make the characters WAY easier to tell apart
Well, they are giving us something new to watch and yeah, I enjoy it a lot, and why? Because thank goodness wild manes is not connected to a oldest generation a thousand years ago
in my opinion the first handful of episodes from FiM were a bit ehhh rought before they really found their footing. I believe that perhaps this show could become better eventually and has some potential
Maybe they could strike some middle ground on wanting it to be 40 5-minute TH-cam videos, and the 22-minute format that fits a traditional 30-minute time slot with enough room for commercials? I might suggest sets of four videos, each with a main plot that wraps up in five minutes, but with each set of four having an overarching theme, and a more subtle B-plot that makes sense when all four videos are watched in order. If aired on TV, such a set would have three natural openings for mid-show commercials, and you could add on a slightly longer opening and closing theme and credits, and still fit into the usual 22 minutes of content.
*Maybe they could strike some middle ground on wanting it to be 40 5-minute TH-cam videos, and the 22-minute format* Yeah, many cartoons in the 90s for instance had 10 minute or so episodes and would air 2 in a 24 minute show, it's DEFINITELY possible to pick something between 5 and 22 minutes, IMO.
Designed towards Horseland girls, show made for mlp fam is an odd mix. One like the horses to act an move more realistic while the other (mlp) prefers cartoon human actions possible despite hooves and fantasy. Show seems have identity crisis but good art geared definitely to little kids like 4-8
i love your videos, 3 off watching them all. Watched the 3 hour blind box video last night loved it lol. Unfortunately wont get to see you at the convention (i was cursed with being british 😭) keep up with the good work!!

9:19 I always thought it made sense for Applejack to use apple similes and stuff. I mean, apples are probably on her mind a lot.
17:04 There was also an Applejack gag just like this too in Look Before You Sleep
The toys look great. If I had some as a kid I would have a ton of fun with them :D
Candy is also quick and doesn't even think if she should tell everyone, about her friend "moving".
I passed by the toy aisle and saw wild mane toys at target
But I do hope this show has enough time and given a chance to truly grow and flourish into its own thing.
heya just wanted to say i love ur videos ur one of the reasons im getting back into mlp!
I never noticed the 'timeline changes' between cold opens and explanations, though empty backgrounds are the sort of thing that really catches my attention. While I feel doubt that there's any iceberg building being done by the writers, it's still fun to entertain the thought.
24:51 😉
I wouldn't consider the show strong enough to have a distinct fandom- especially when, as you said, the longevity of the IP is questionable when the world and characters don't have a trait that makes it all stand out from the rest of Western kids animation, but it's clearly a wait and see sort of thing. Maybe there is somehow some marketing theory where the show doesn't aim to explode in popularity because fads always crash and cause sales to collapse, or something.
17:03 I think that's a pretty common joke, actually.
4:38 💀
The toys are fire! 😊
WOAH YAY YIPPIE NEW EFF MINUS VIDEO SBJSJSJSJ
and y'all didn't have to wait 2348936 years for this one!
my reaction exactly 🤩🙏
On the topic of candy I don’t actually find her to be similar to pinkie. I actually find her to be more like g3 Minty. Well generally Wild manes as a whole feels like g3😊
Man, Jakks Pacific, now thats a prolific name. Everything from hotwheels to monster trucks to TONKA, if at any point it was on TV, theres a good chance Jakks had a hand in it, they were even in the Toys R Us market.
You NEED to make more videos I can’t stop watching
the pink one seems like a mix of Pinkie Pie and Pipp from G5
The wild manes toys are better quality then anything Hasbro/basic fun has ever produced and that makes me mad at Hasbro/basic fun! Also what the heck is this trend with cartoons and toys (specially those aimed at girls) doing tie ins with Roblox?! Seriously! First it was just miraculous, then littlest pet shop joined in, then the newest winx club reboot and now wild manes?! What’s next? Barbie?! This is bad because Roblox is known to be filled with creeps!
Its wild
ur KILLING ITTTT! Keep up the content LMAO you make my day
The art style honestly reminds me of Horse Land more than MLP with the realistic colors with mane highlights. The little outfits are cute but I think different coat patterns would make the characters WAY easier to tell apart
i just happened to stumble across your last video and saw that you uploaded again- time for more rambling about silly ponies!!!! :D
Tbh, the setting and designs kinda remind me of G3
I THINK IT IS WORTH WACTHING THERE IS EP THEY SO GOOD
I can always count on Eff to find a show that is extremely close to MLP while it also is its own independent show.
Well, they are giving us something new to watch and yeah, I enjoy it a lot, and why?
Because thank goodness wild manes is not connected to a oldest generation a thousand years ago
Candi!!!
in my opinion the first handful of episodes from FiM were a bit ehhh rought before they really found their footing.
I believe that perhaps this show could become better eventually and has some potential
3:59 DID I JUST SEE BENDY?!
Yup!
If aired on TV, such a set would have three natural openings for mid-show commercials, and you could add on a slightly longer opening and closing theme and credits, and still fit into the usual 22 minutes of content.
that is very smart
*Maybe they could strike some middle ground on wanting it to be 40 5-minute TH-cam videos, and the 22-minute format*
Yeah, many cartoons in the 90s for instance had 10 minute or so episodes and would air 2 in a 24 minute show, it's DEFINITELY possible to pick something between 5 and 22 minutes, IMO.
Candi Cluster B and schizophrenic cocoa canon
Candie is doing a literal Pinkie Pie imitation... I can´t xD
Their manes look incredibly delicious. I really want to eat them
I agree! At least for Cocoa and Candi!
What?
@@EnriqueLaberintico What?
@@Ghostfoxkori that?
@@EnriqueLaberintico Their manes look like frosting, that’s why
7:23 voice reminds me of Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph
@cuterose9376 I can no longer unsee it
@@teriso1793 🤣🤣🤣
Maybe they’re voiced by the same person
@@FaeFixion Probably 🤷♀️
Its cute. And i bet you anything that it will become less episodic over time and will develop a bigger story.
36:50 maybe they were talking about G5?
ok, that's a really good frickin' point, idk why i didn't consider that LOL
I love food, friends, and fun to
40 minute video on a 2 episode series is wild
Wild Manes looks so good!
The moment I looked at the thumbnail for one of the episodes I just knew they were trying to compete with mlp
Designed towards Horseland girls, show made for mlp fam is an odd mix. One like the horses to act an move more realistic while the other (mlp) prefers cartoon human actions possible despite hooves and fantasy. Show seems have identity crisis but good art geared definitely to little kids like 4-8
YIPPEE MORE EFF MINUS CONTENT
Better than g5? 🤔
The art style, in my opinion, is better, but otherwise, even G5 manages to outrank Wild Manes. Don't observe either.
only time will tell..
for me its at least better then mym
the designs are amazing!
Mlp and Horseland's illegitimate lovechild
My fav pony channel
random comment but i saw a maki nesoberi, good taste dude
Nico is best girl BUT Maki's a close second
"Am I a girl all of a sudden?"
Well, you are wearing a flower in your hair..
Jakks Pacific made great winx dolls
i love your videos, 3 off watching them all. Watched the 3 hour blind box video last night loved it lol. Unfortunately wont get to see you at the convention (i was cursed with being british 😭) keep up with the good work!!
thankyu!!
This reminds me so strongly of cartoons from the late eighties/early nineties -in terms of writing, not animation style. Could totally see this in an animation block with Jem and Beverly Hills Teens
Is A+ just eff's inner thoughts
Wild manes reminds me of horse land style
Damn my dreams are getting way to realistic! I'm late for a Eff Minus video? A HOUR LATE?
i love ur content pls dont die
when i was watching this and you showed actual MLP i missed so much
Pearla is just a yassified hatsune miku pony
