For example, if you look up a video of someone introducing a harness, you'll likely see them teaching the bird to stick it's head through whatever loop it needs to go through. They're introduced to their wings being handled and being put through the loops, and there's a lot of work before the harness is even properly tightened, let alone the bird is taken outdoors with it. If the bird is being stressed, you'd need to take a step back. If they're being harmed at all due to the harness, you should check the fit and design of the harness and check you are using it correctly. (as well as check your bird physically and mentally before trying again) I could go on, but I don't want to piss people off. These are just my thoughts. I agree with many people that harnesses are not for every bird, nor is outdoor flights. Well it will be based on the material we use, and also if we don't use a harness we can't take our budgies out. They couldn't even survive outside if they fly away from us. I recommend harness but which is good and comfortable for birds. We can't just let them stay on our home they're whole life, we should take them out once In a while.
I complete agree with you, harnesses are not a solution. Maybe for big birds but not for such smal cuties. Our birds can fly free in the whole appartment. But the most time they spend with us in our dining room. There they have their cages, water, food and toys. We have a big cage in cas we have to travel with the flock. On one evening we had our budgie Sid in this cage with us in the garden. The cage has water, food, toys and a shadowed place, too. We thought he would like fresh air and sunshine. But as you know for sure budgies are curious but at the same time very scared. He sits the whole time on his perch and didn´t even react to us. He got to much impressions and didn´t really like the situation. So we gave it up after this first attempt. Free flight is not an option because of the reasons before. We live in a city of 300K souls. Although our garden is very quiet, we think one siren, loud traffic noice or church bell and little bugie will panic an fly away. And even if the flight will last only 3 or 5 miles, you´ll never find this little guy in a big city.
if you put the harness on right and properly train your budgie, it doesn't hurt the bird at all. with high quality harnesses, the fabric its made of should be very soft, and the leash it's attached to should be elastic so that if your bird flies away, it feels only a miniscule amount of tension and flies back to you safe and sound. basically, as long as you get a high quality harness (like the aviator harness for example) it should work very well and most likely will not harm your budgie.
@@chickengenders7899 Do you know any ways to desensitize my budgie to touch, she loves getting scritches at times, eats from hand easily, and recalls back to my hand when i call her. But any touch elsewhere with hand or object is rejected.
The harness isnt the worse thing ever like u can use a carrier if u were thinking of using a harness but do not clip ur birds wings because it makes them lose ur trust
I will buy a budgie harness NOT to train it but so that my budiges can go into the outside world and not just the inside of my home and their cage. Sure it depends on the thing I can teach my budgies to do with a budige harness but I will buy the kind that you put around their body and wings so that they have space but can't fly away. I might teach them a few things but if those things can be taught without a budgie harness then I will try to do it that way unless other wise. So the main reason that I will buy a budige harness is so that I can take them into the outide world and let them explore but in my grasp because I don't wan them to escape of course. They might not like it but in my opinion they will like the outside world becuase that's where their parents were born but they weren't. My budgies will be able to go outside but only with a budgie harness and they will be comfrotable not becuase I said so but becuase I'm going to buy the on that you put around their body and not aroundt their feet.
if ur talking about birds flying freely its called free flight training and or if u talking about the leash its called a harness also people use it so birds can go outside without flying away
@@JohnCena8351 but it’s safer than free flying because a lot of people think that if there bond is strong with ur bird it would prevent them from flying away if they take them out without a harness or carrier or without proper training and that’s what ends up with the bird flying away so a harness would be better than free flying

harnesses aren't that bad i personally dont use it because my budgie hates it,but it depends on how u make it look like to the budgie/birds and how u try to proceed to put it on the bird
My cockatiel cannot fly. instead she plummets into the ground, often hurting herself. She has fully developed wings but has no idea. I have wondered whether getting her a harness will lessen the times that she hurts herself.
Hello, I have my budgie that have his beak way too long, and I don’t have the opportunity neither the money to take him to the vet for a beak trim ( I’m quite poor because of lockdown) but the thing is that he’s wild, I didn’t had the time to tame him yet and I’m scared to hurt him when I’m holding him or trimming his beak? What should I do ? :(
What do I do if she gets too scared outside when I’m training her to come back? I don’t want to do the next step of taking her outside because she might get overwhelmed and fly away... how do I slowly introduce her to it? She can come when called inside I just don’t want to move to the next step
If you are talking about a budgie, budgies are not the best free fliers. Unfortunately, they scare so easily and can fly away in an instant no matter how well trained they are. The best thing to do is to build some kind of avairy or something where the budgie will be able to have freedom, but not be able to get hurt. If you're talking about something like a cockatiel, gcc, or bigger, then birdtricks is a great channel to get tips from! There are other good channels, but I have only watched Birdtricks so far. Good luck!
Try an Aviator harness they are perfectly safe and have an elastic leash so it gives the birds time to turn around instead of pulling them back instantly if they fly to far. They are made of durable comfortable material and are easy to put on. My budgies love being outside on Aviator harnesses and have actually tried carrying the harness to me lol.

This video is so informative.... I appreciate that you guys made this video❤ Budgies are really really sensitive and harness would damage your budgie's body All the pet owners( budgie owners) this video is so accurate, plz don't ignore 🐦 Love from India ❤❤
Some lashes have no metal and have elastic leashes so they don't "jerk" hard and hurt if they do fly. But I would also be very skittish using a leash on a bird as small as a budgie/lovebird/parrotlet.
They're small,so i don't think harness is good for them...i mean,if you accidentally pulled them, they will be a yoyo...if a big parrots get pulled, they probably will not move at all...also,budgies can fly in your house (in your room for example),while big parrots can't unless you have an aviary p/s: this is just my opinion😄
My sister bought a harness for her budgie, back in the 60s. She used it once. The sight of her bird thrashing around on the end of a leash was enough for her. Plus, Gramps didn't like her for awhile after that. No harness, please!
did she rush it directly because she would have needed to get the bird comfortable with it being next to it then slowly proceed to put it on.if not then thats why the bird was scared
@@emilyherrera7201 If I remember correctly (this was 50 plus years ago) she brought the harness home, and put it on the bird. I think she'd seen an ad for it, and thought it would be helpful and cute, and she could take the bird outside using the harness. She never did, being worried that he would strangle himself.
(Basically I wrote out a super long comment so I’m just gonna put the tl;dr of it instead) Harnesses can be bad but there’s nicer ones out there for a bit more money (without metal or thick material) Birds of prey are a huge threat when free flying which is why most people train macaws or larger birds with big beaks to free fly because they stand a good chance against birds of prey what with their big beaks and size (Mentioned in the video) deepening on the time you take your bird outside, dusk could be a long time away Gonna put the super confusing comment in the replies so it doesn’t take up so much space haha in case anyone wants to read that Otherwise great video! If people DO use harnesses for taking their budgies outside it’s good that there’s a video educating people on not using bulky metal harnesses. However I do feel that the information was arranged in a weird way. Such as not mentioning using nicer harnesses instead of the ones you mentioned. It just makes it seem more like an opinionated video on the topic instead of educational.
I personally feel like it depends on the harness and the bird. The harnesses shown in this video are so unbelievably bulky that it would be pretty mean to put them on a bird of that size, but I’ve seen a few that don’t involve hard, thick material like that, or buckles/metal. There are ones made of soft thin material that don’t involve any clips or buckles and they’re mainly used to allow a smaller bird to get some fresh air. I also think it’s up to you to decide if it’s right for your bird. If your bird seems unhappy with the harness then I’d advise that you don’t push it and create distrust between you and your bird. (I haven’t tried a harness on my bird so please take everything I say with a grain of salt)Even if a bird is flight trained I don’t think you should attempt training it to free fly unless you are very knowledgeable on training or have a lot of trust in your bird because they very well might take this as an opportunity to fly away. Not because they don’t love you but because it’s exciting for them. While this might sound mean, a budgie looks like a perfect, defenseless snack for a bird of prey such as an eagle or hawk in the case of where I live. They can also get lost in their excitement of being outside in a new area and loose sight of you. Or they might just fly away for a few hours and try to come back but find that they cannot find you. As the video said, they’ll have an instinct to come back home at dusk but depending on what time you take them outside, dusk could be quite a few hours away. Some people could get discouraged after half an hour or so of looking and give up. I am relatively new to bird ownership but I’ve been doing research over the past year I’d say (not the whole year non stop obviously but I was interested in having a bird as a pet about December last year so I started doing a ton of research). I also study a lot on animals, and while I’m definitely not an expert or anything, I do like to think that I’m knowledgeable enough to state my opinion on the topic. Sorry this is so long haha and please keep in mind this is my opinion on the video and I’m not hating on this or anything. Also sorry if this doesn’t make sense I have trouble putting my thoughts down into writing lol so it might be all over the place. If it’s edited I probably fixed the organization of my comment to make more sense. I honestly have no idea if this is a good comment or if anyone is going to read this but thanks if you do. Also if I seem uneducated about something please let me know in the replies, I’d love to gain more knowledge on this subject.
My budgie is 8 years old, he cannot fly properly anymore because his vision got really bad. Everytime I let him out he flies into something or he falls down. I am very scared he is going to injure himself. I cannot let him out of the cage like this. Should I get a harness, so he can come out and won’t try to fly away, or should I not let him o it completely? What should I do?
⚠️HEY GUYS I NEED HELP! ⚠️I have 2 budgies! They are taken great care of, have a nice cage/toys, and i’ve had them for about a year now. The only problem is.. is that they won’t bond with me! They get really scared of me. They aren’t clipped anymore, but idk if i should do it again since they’re not tamed. But that also makes it super hard for me to take them out their cage and insure their safety. (they can’t fly super well) what should i do? I really want a good relationship with them, and also be able to take them out their cage a lot more.
Do NOT clip them, please! If you bird-safe the room they're in, you can let them out of the cage to fly freely even if they're not tame. Just leave the cage door open and they will eventually venture out by themselves. It can help to put a stick outside by the cage door, so they have a littel perch there to land on or take off from. Birds need excercise even if they're not tame, and they will always go back to their cage eventually since they usually love their cage and feel safe in it. Just wait them out (do this on days where you don't have to leave the house for several hours, in case they take a long time wanting to go back to the cage). Make sure food is always served inside the cage and nowhere else, and they will go back by themselves when they're hungry. Build a little play area on top of the cage, they will most certainly stay there in the beginning. To help them bond with you - always use millet! You want them to associate you with positive things, and millet is the way to go. Always feed them millet out of your hand, do not put it in the cage for them. Since millet is such a high value treat for budgies, making sure it always comes from your hand will eventually lead them to associate your hand with treats and positivity. Also - take it slowly. You can't tame a bird, but you can earn its trust, and this is a slow process. If the bird gets scared, panics and flies away, you took it too far for their comfort level. Take a step back, start from the beginning. Don't take it personally when they panic or if they don't want to engage with you, they're their own personalities and may not be interested in bonding with you. Some budgies just don't want to bond with a human, and that's okay! I have four budgies and two of them are just not interested in hanging out with me. That's fine! They're all different. :) I hope this helps a little, feel free to ask if you have more questions! Best of luck!!

At 1:42 i think the images u showed to us got some kinda crashed 😁😁
Yea it did lol
He’s just a unique baby
yeah true!
Harness is a belt kinda thing it could harm or hurt our budgie, cause the budgies are too small to wear the harness....
Edit- btw i am early....
Their wings could snap
@Aisha even though it is not good it does not go on their wings so their wings wont snap
if you put the harness on right and properly train your budgie, it doesn't hurt the bird at all. with high quality harnesses, the fabric its made of should be very soft, and the leash it's attached to should be elastic so that if your bird flies away, it feels only a miniscule amount of tension and flies back to you safe and sound. basically, as long as you get a high quality harness (like the aviator harness for example) it should work very well and most likely will not harm your budgie.

Awwww your birds is sooo cute😍😍
I train them from starting

It's called being "free like a bird" so why would anyone put a leash on a budgie.
if ur talking about birds flying freely its called free flight training and or if u talking about the leash its called a harness also people use it so birds can go outside without flying away
@@emilyherrera7201 Yeah but it's dumb. It's dangerous for birds. At least the smaller ones.

Some lashes have no metal and have elastic leashes so they don't "jerk" hard and hurt if they do fly. But I would also be very skittish using a leash on a bird as small as a budgie/lovebird/parrotlet.
Lovebirds are about conure size minus the tail. They definitely qualify.
Your birds are so cute
Aww all of your budgie are so cute I only have two budgies
My green budgie kiwi have flown 2 times flown and came back with a torn cloth
But is training ring ok?
They're small,so i don't think harness is good for them...i mean,if you accidentally pulled them, they will be a yoyo...if a big parrots get pulled, they probably will not move at all...also,budgies can fly in your house (in your room for example),while big parrots can't unless you have an aviary
p/s: this is just my opinion😄
Hey Alen your Angel is soooooo cute

(Basically I wrote out a super long comment so I’m just gonna put the tl;dr of it instead)
Harnesses can be bad but there’s nicer ones out there for a bit more money (without metal or thick material)
Birds of prey are a huge threat when free flying which is why most people train macaws or larger birds with big beaks to free fly because they stand a good chance against birds of prey what with their big beaks and size
(Mentioned in the video) deepening on the time you take your bird outside, dusk could be a long time away
Gonna put the super confusing comment in the replies so it doesn’t take up so much space haha in case anyone wants to read that
Otherwise great video!
