Infection Control Tip: do not allow the sterile drape to be touched and then unfolded over the edge of the dressing tray - you just contaminated your tray
At approximately timestamp 1:50 she lets the edge of the sterile drape cover the edge of the sterile tray momentarily. The non-sterile side of the drape (created when she pinched it to pick it up) slaps the tray’s left edge AND IMMEDIATELY CONTAMINATES THE WHOLE THING. Technically THIS FEILD IS NOT STERILE. IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE OPERATING ROOM, SHE WOULD BE EATEN ALIVE.
I've been doing port care at home for almost ten years. I'm going to be doing iv fluids at home soon. Can you please show how to do that part in a separate video?
I'd advise confirming place before applying dressing. If it is not in in place and you have already dressed it, then you run the risk of having to remove the adhesive and cause further skin irritation.
I know this is an old video. The preformed syringes are not sterile; only the tips under the caps and the fluid are sterile. Hands should be cleaned before donning sterile gloves.
These particular Saline Flushes ARE sterile, coming in sterile packaging. Typical saline flushes used daily are what you are referring to which are only sterile under the caps. Again, the ones used in this video are different and are completely sterile and are specifically completely sterilized so they can be introduced into the sterile field.
In the or we'd open onto the larger field. The plunger of the syringes hanging over the dressing packaging is no longer considered sterile. I would have opened onto the larger field. Different technique , I guess.
FYI Bio patches are being phased out in the next few years for the chlorhexidine impregnated tegaderm dressings that all emergency room and hospitals hopefully will stock 👍
Good that you stated scrub not “paint” prep, chlorhexidine
Also excellent to allow the area to dry not fan the sterile are to be accessed!

Absolutely stabilize the port before accessing the port with the Huber needle
Very good sterile technique, E Qualls RN, MSN retired 😊

How am I going to deal with having this done to me when I'm so afraid of needles ?
She contaminated the sterile gloves by touching the inside wrapping-.

Why did you cover up the removal of the port with your hand. It's the most important part!

If deemed "cost effective"
Whats the size of gauge used?
It’s usually printed on the front of the outer packaging
Proper sterile technique shouldn’t include wearing a cardigan with long sleeves.
Why she was not wearing her sterile gloves opening the sterile materials
You don't need to wear sterile gloves to drop things on a sterile field
Never write on the patient!!
Wiping is wrong.
In to out
Not anymore. Old technique
You did not observe sterile technique
Bare hands in sterile kit,, non sterile packaging in sterile field, yeah sterile techniques 😂
She didn’t touch anything. She used the non-touch technique to open the dressing pack!
