So this song's sound is heavily inspired by 80's Japanese city pop, and samples the song "Midnight Pretenders" by Tomoko Aran. In the context of the album, this is a continuation of the story from the previous album. The first album (which has Blinding Lights, Save Your Tears, etc) tells the story of a breakup of The Weeknd and a girl due to his crazy lifestyle, infidelity, and drug use. Blinding Lights is where he begins to try and make things work, only to find his former love has moved on. In this album, he ends up in a new relationship where he tries to be better but struggles with old habits. This song is about his lack of self-love and how he would run away from commitment in a relationship. In addition, the previous album was supposed to be a representation of Earth, and this album is a personal "purgatory" where he experiences how his past actions made others feel, while the upcoming third album will be a representation of heaven. The trip through purgatory on this album is narrated by a radio DJ voiced by Jim Carrey.
It is Jim Carey putting The Mask on Abel. Also the woman is Hyeon Jung from Squid Games. It is about an old man in a Hell Loop looking back at the mistakes of his youth. BTW the whole DawnFM Album is a continuation of After Hours. He died in After Hours and Dawn FM is his journey in Purgatory. His next album will complete the trilogy and be about rebirth and heaven. It is a play on Dante's Inferno. Death; Purgatory and Heaven
