So funny to see the UK through a traveller's eyes because I'm from the UK. Everything from how you say Costa, to how excited about the Services you guys get. Amazing. York is an amazing city, I travel there quite a lot for work. Can't wait to see the next video.

I'm from York. Few suggestions.... Betty's tea rooms, walk the bar walls, minster, York dungeons, the shambles, check out a bar called the evil eye, museum gardens, rice style if you fancy some Thai food.

You can get cash by asking for cash back in some shops. They'll charge it to your card/bank but provide you money back when you pay. Usually supermarkets will do it. Morrison's self checkout offer it.

When hiring a car in England, the damage you're liable for is always limited to a maximum excess amount. You can pay to reduce the excess, but you can't totally remove the insurance and be liable for everything, so that minimum insurance is always included in the price

As a rule, Brits only use the motorway service stations for the toilets. Everything else is more expensive then their own branches in the towns. So get stocked up before you leave.

York is the place where I was brought up and where I had my first experience in the world of radio at BBC Radio York, spent a lot of time sending American tourists in the wrong direction when they asked where something was. It was fun at the time and I was very young. I do however hope your visit is painless. Walk the walls it's free and visit the Sam Smiths pub by the river. It constantly floods - The Kings Arms. Enjoy.

Okay it's a little late for me to tell you now, certainly after the fact anyway.
Motorway service stations are nice and all but they charge a premium because of their location. If you come off the motorway at a town or city you'll almost always find a supermarket within a mile or so of the junction where you can get more choice of food at regular prices. The motorway services tend to be advantageous in that they are on the motorway, often have a choice of fast food outlets and a communal sitting area.
Also re:- Guinness. If you want to try something a little nostalgic. Try the Guinness Original XX, it's what Guinness used to be between 1821 and 1971 before to went over to a new recipe and then the widget draught variety. If you want something a little more refreshing try a Guinness Hop House 13 Lager of a Guinness Golden Ale, all the refreshment of a lager with the taste of a light golden ale.

Car insurance in Europe is always mandatory. What you may have declined in the past is what I think Americans call a 'damage waiver' where you can pay about £10 a day more to reduce the amount payable for damaging the car from (for example) £600 to £0 - that's optional.
The car rental company usually have a damage deposit process, if you did not have a card they could accept where they could charge the deposit on collection and then refund it on return, they sometimes make you pay the extra damage waiver instead. Happened to me in Spain a couple of years ago.

maybe in Europe car rental places will sting you for every little dent and scratch but here in England they dont do that as they've already logged all dents scratches marks etc, also York is not the only walled city in the England as there is another one called Chester which down in the north of England which was also built and founded by the Romans

Decline the insurance. Decline the insurance. They CAN do it. I did it last year with a car I picked up at Sixt at Heathrow. The rental agency clerk didn’t like it and she tried to scare me into it but I paid with Amex and used their add-on car rental insurance ($25/rental) and confirmed everything with Amex on the phone. Guys, just so you know, Waitrose is pronounced like "Way-trose" not "Wait - rose." Really enjoying your videos! I know you thought taking the train was expensive but it's really not if you're flexible with your timing. Get an off-peak ticket and you could be in York from London in 2.5 hours. You would have saved a lot of time and what you spent in paying for petrol and parking probably equalled or exceeded what you spent in the car rental. If nothing else, you could have rented it a car once in York but we do quite well just taking the train, taxis, buses and day trips from sites like Viator.
