Windir song "Ending" set to a clip from Severed Ways: The Norse Discovery of America. When I first saw this clip, I immediately thought of Valfar's untimely end.
it's a difficult challenge for an artist of any kind to convey the atmosphere of strength, grimness, and cold of his natural habitat which is for valfar was deep sogndal. by my informed assessment this and many other windir songs are masterworks that are not fully appreciated at this time.
@EvanesEmperor It's based on norwegian folk music! :D In traditional dances we often utilize the yeehaw :D Also in the middle oh Kong Hydnes Haug! :D In addition... the melancholic melody in this song is based on another traditional norwegian song called "Anne Knutsdotter"
I don't believe anyone could make a more fitting video than this. Ohhr man, that really kicked my ass. Especially the last scene of the warrior laying in the snow, I can only imagine how Terje felt. I wonder if this very song ws running through his mind, and I wonder if he knew that he was going to die as he was lying there in the snow. I am just in a lack of words!
Am I the only one who's got this weird attraction to freezing cold? Like when I go outside and my face and hands freeze it feels more good than bad spiritually.
Being cold stimulates your heart and other muscles one doesnt often use. It's suggested this is actually beneficial to elderly or those otherwise incapable of strenuous cardio excercise. It's the reasoning many a northern utilizing cold dips in the frigid winter.
Yup. Every year I embrace winter more and more. I ice fish so I have to embrace the cold but enjoy the challenge. It's also so much more beautiful outside in Winter and the silence also calms me . Being cold sucks but when I'm out there I'm all in on the experience.
Great video. "kampen" would've been great to this, I listen to it when walking through snow in winter, has good walking beat. Also "Likbor" would've been good, make it so when he falls down, that beautiful chord progression kicks in (at 4:42) I do believe. Anyway great video.
+Space Dreamer No, in the bronze age the temperature was very high in Scandinavia and Britain, you could even grow grapes, but during the iron age (viking age) the temperature got much colder again.
+Space Dreamer Oh wait, my bad, apparently the cold iron age period was followed by a warmer period during the early middle ages, which was the viking era in Scandinavia
"my studies revolve on this subject." - then go back to books and learn about Scandinavians who later conquered Roman Empire. They had kings and pretty much the same tribal organisation as Vikings in the Middle Ages, and you said there were societies in those times..
I just googled a bit and couldn't find any satisfactory lyrics, nor any that were translated. But with my feeble grasp of old Norwegian I can at least tell that it is more like an intro to a folk tale than a credits reel. The bits I got were: "My name is Terje Bakken, Bjørg is my mother and my brother's name is Vegard. We live in a place where nobody could believe that anyone could live. The name of the place was Eggja, Gorvin, Stemmehaugen, Gjaitaskaddl, Kvaole. The winters are not easy on us, with the frost, fog and snow. For weeks at a time, we don't get to see anyone. The place is called Crude, Horn, Road to the Sky. Rock mounds, rock mounds, gloomy hell!"
He died leaving us with such talented music
Valfar died in such a brutal, nordic way. His soul rests with the spirits now.
How did he die?
@@ExtremeHardcoreGamer
Freezing.
Er ist gestorben wie im Video. Unglaublich. Als hätte er es gewusst. Ruhe in Frieden 🤟🇧🇻
I like it because its a personal record.
RIP VALFAR
I honestly can't think of a more black metal way to die. RIP Valfar, thanks for all of your art.
thanks to you valfar for your art ,,,
This is how legends die
Case in point: Valfar
Rest In Valhalla Valfar!

intro sounds almost exactly like the eerie riff from black spell of destruction by burzum. gotta say I like this song more though
Agreed.
It actually uses the same riff progression, yes, but the real kicker is that this is a cover of an old children's song, named Anne Knutsdotter
@@ToaGatanuva let's not pretend here, Winidr are nothing more than failed imitators of actual true black metal pioneers, Burzum and Enslaved.
This is actually a cover of an old norwegian folk tune called "Anne Knutsdotter".
....and by the way - one of the Terjes forebears name was Anna Knutsdotter)
This movie was one of the saddest I've ever seen..
Hail Sognametal!
In memory to Valfar, forever...
This is so sad but so beautiful , R.I.P Valfar you're a Genius !!!

Do you know if any other Windir song is originally an old folk tune?
Ich liebe diesen Song
The best movie ever.
One of my all-time favourites
Till Valhalla!
The film is called "Severed Ways", I think you can still find it on youtube.
Rickard Viik Thank you!!!

Love
must be a pretty light winter for that dude, lol
Am I the only one who's got this weird attraction to freezing cold? Like when I go outside and my face and hands freeze it feels more good than bad spiritually.
Same here. Sometimes when it's not cold outside I'll change my showers to cold while listening to music like this. So relaxing!
you make Wim Hof proud
Hippocrates wrote that it's healthy to take cold showers so it's probably the same when you are feeling cold

The temperature in Viking era was very hot in the northern hemisphere so I don't know how come anyone could possibly die of hypothermia
No it wasn't

"Societies" in Scandinavia existed long before that you ignorant

Any English translations for this song? Seems to be like a credits song mentioning names, which is awesome
