Honestly MOS felt like they grab all the powers that sups have but left out all the character behind him. I mean I get it that some might prefer Snyder's take, but to me it just felt so boring. I mean, Sups isn't my main favorite DC hero (I personally like the Flash...which I am disappointed in the Flash movie as it wasn't a flash movie at all), but I like his humanity, his symbol of Hope. being more human than godlike in terms of personality. Snyder's take isn't that at all as he takes superman more dark and gritty that devoid what is Superman. Sure, you can have the power of the superhero you are gonna make, but if you are going to ignore the character, then that's not the hero you like.
I still believe Man of Steel was meant to be connected to The Dark Knight movies, hence the tone and the title being an alternate name for Superman, in response to the MCU. But due to some behind the scenes shenanigans, TDK was allowed to be separate from the DCEU.
I remembered I wanted that connection when man of steel came out! Would have been cool to see and it would have gone along with that “realistic take” on DC!
James Gunn is capable of giving us a great, if not awesome, DCU. IMO when he's not trying so hard to be funny, he has a lot of potential as a great storyteller.
What if they hired James Gunn to do the light and comical movies and then Zack Snyder to do the dark and serious movies. I was fine with Snyder's DC movies but I thought that it seems like he should have been hired to make Batman instead of Superman.
Before The Suicide Squad was released, I checked out every movie that he directed, wrote & produced I immediately became a huge fan of his work. When I first watched The Suicide Squad at the theaters, it was so awesome. He did great directing the movie. When I heard that he's in charge of DC Studios, I was excited to see what projects he's gonna bring. He's the reason why I became a comic book reader. James Gunn is going to give us a new DC universe. I'm pumped for his new Superman movie next year!
Truth is, as an adult who grew up with Chris Reeve, I didn't want a repeat of that. The Reeve films as an adult seem dorky and childish. I don't need something to mirror the comics to enjoy it. One of the reasons the Nolan Batman films are the greatest comic films ever IMHO, is they didn't dumb it down for the arrested development, "it better be just like the comics" crowd. The idea that the Suicide Squad, or Peacemaker, was great writing compared to MOS is kinda silly, even though I enjoyed both. Peacemaker was a bunch of dick jokes and was saved by Cena's excellent comedic timing. The Snyder hate is reminiscent of the hate for Nickelback. A lot of people hate Snyder and his Superman because it seems like the group-think thing to do. Just like the hate for Nickelback.

I am still on the fence about all this personally, I see lots of pros, and also lots of cons with Gunn at the head. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a snyder shill, i didn't care for most of the DCEU, but I stand by the fact that Man of Steel was fantastic, so I dunno what you are on about, but I can respect that you didn't care for it. Regardless here are my thoughts on Gunn: the man is a FANTASTIC storyteller, that is definitely the biggest pro here. the guardians movies are fantastic, even the third (which for me was way too dark but i can recognize the great storytelling even though I didn't care for it, a bit ironic I know). The casting looks genuinely great, the half that SHOULD be in the movie, the rest, well... that gets me to my next point. Gunn likes the lesser known characters, because he can do whatever he wants with them, it's why guardians worked, it's why suicide squad worked, but Superman isn't either of those, and his movie shouldn't be like that, and yet we are seeing him "fill out the universe" with others that frankly evoke that same ideology. I don't really care to see the Authority on screen, or the Terrifics, when we don't even have a justice league yet. And sure, being the storytelling guru that he is, he'll probably roll that all together into a story leading into the forming of the justice league down the road. but his whole DC slate is like 90% lesser knowns, which sure, fine, DC needs to mix it up, but man, way to leave the main characters out to dry. I don't want a Superman who is a side character in his own story is all I'm getting at. My second con is more of a nitpick, I'm mostly on board with the new look, but the collar man... they took away the ONLY thing that makes superman's costume different from anyone else, it was the only thing that ties his look back to his strongman inspiration. The other nitpick I have is with the broccoli head Clark, hahahahahahahahaha... he looks so stupid like that I'm sorry... with all that said, I'm both skeptical and optimistic. I do think he'll tell a good story if nothing else.
Hey, I totally get where you're coming from. Man of Steel has a special place for a lot of fans, and I respect that. Henry was a lot of kids and adult's favorite superman growing up and I don't want to strip that away from them. I'm really hopeful about Gunn because of his storytelling skills, but I understand your concerns about focusing on lesser-known characters. It's going to be interesting to see how he balances everything out. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a great Superman story! And yeah, the broccoli head Clark... haha, I don't mind it for the dorkyness of the look but I also don't blame you for finding it ridiculous! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I have to disagree here, he kills Zod out of nowhere? A family was right there he had to kill him there was no other choice, even so called super good characters have to do things they wouldn’t normally do for the greater good, also f the trunks
That’s totally fine! I respect your opinion and understand why Superman had to stop Zod to save the family. It just came out of nowhere. Nothing in the movie prior showed he would be willing to cross that line. I view Superman as this inspirational character with god like power that helps all life. But like Zack Snyder said, I’m living in a dream world.
I am excited with how James gunn is gonna take this, like people refer to GOTG but he also had the suicide squad and scooby doo so I am excited for this
James Gunn is perfect for DC he knows how to blend serious moments and comedic moments. I don't get why people say all he does is comedy. Guardians 3 had plenty of serious moments. Hell I think James Gunn directed Brightburn didn't he? I trust James Gunn he seems very passionate about the DCU and that's great. My only complaints so far are the suits they kind of look goofy. But I'm sure they'll look better in future films. I'm hoping we can live in a time where both Marvel and DC are thriving. That's what I want.
200% agree! Gunn's mix of serious and funny moments is spot on. Guardians 3 was proof of that, and while he didn't direct Brightburn, he produced it, which shows his range. I think the suits look great but perhaps when they touch them up in post, they will look even better for us. Here’s to both Marvel and DC thriving!
@@Cozzzzylion Hopefully the DCU can fix DC's reputation. DC deserves to be on the same level as Marvel. DC is the goat of comic books. It's sad that they are stuck in Marvel's shadow.

@@rorylumley4727 James has always been good with handling big cast. @@Cozzzzylion I'm kind of worried superman maybe bounced around between a lot of setups and be a very passive character. The dcu does seem messy with constant changes so not 100% on trusting gunns statements.
I see James Gunn as a large part of the reason comic book movies are failing nowadays. He made a successful Guardians Trilogy. Cool. Now every single comic book movie is goofy, unserious, and practically a comedy. If you look at the most successful superhero movies, they are usually dark and take the world that they are in, seriously. That’s a large part of the reason I enjoy movies from DC like the Snyder Trilogy, The Dark Knight Trilogy, The Batman, and The Joker. Those movies had heart and emotion. The characters weren’t winking and smiling at the camera the whole time. They reflected the complexity of human emotion. All I see from James Gunn is goofiness. Take James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. All it really did was produce joke after joke with a mediocre story attached to it. None of the characters in his movies are taken seriously. It’s all a joke to him. So it’s hard to get invested, when the characters in the movie don’t even take the world they are in seriously. As recent examples, I think The Batman and Joker’s success were successful largely due to the fact that the characters and the world were taken seriously. They weren’t just another goofy superhero movie like many other recent DC releases. If the DCU is going to succeed, it needs to be more serious and not filled with cringy/goofy comedy. Unfortunately James Gunn was a pioneer in goofy and cringy comic book films. I’m hoping that Superman 2025 won’t be like that, but we won’t really know the tone of his universe until we get that trailer. Either way, I’m a DC fan at the end of the day, so I will always be hopeful for the future of DC.
I get what you're saying. I've heard about how people feel James Gunn started the trend of making comic book movies goofy, but I also heard the same argument for Christopher Nolan when he did the dark knight trilogy. How every movie since had to be realistic, serious and dark. It's definitely a balance to strike. Personally, I enjoy both styles and I'm hopeful that Gunn can bring his unique storytelling to DC without losing the seriousness that makes characters like Batman and Joker so compelling. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Hopefully David corenswet will be RDJ for the DCU
I still believe Man of Steel was meant to be connected to The Dark Knight movies, hence the tone and the title being an alternate name for Superman, in response to the MCU. But due to some behind the scenes shenanigans, TDK was allowed to be separate from the DCEU.

@@Coconut_Prrson me toooooo!!
