One of my fav's too. And a nice callback, when she said a similar thing to him "Do they teach laywers to apologize? Because you suck at it." :D And the way Ed/Albert Finney plays that scene, was just perfection. Trying to stifle a laugh, when he knows the shock she'll get when she sees the check, and letting her go off on him.
Adding to the cameos by Erin and Ed in the diner, the judge who dismissed the demurs and told them they're going to trial was the *actual* judge on the case - LeRoy A. Simmons - reprising his role! Thanks for the reaction - I'm a law student and this is a movie I've been returning to again and again as I continue my studies. I can also recommend The Rainmaker and A Civil Action as two other legal dramas worthy of your attention 😊
Fun Fact: Julia Roberts won Best Actress Oscar for this film. Also, the film's director (Steven Soderbergh) made 2 movies in the year 2000 (this film and TRAFFIC) and he received Best Director Oscar nominations for both movies in the same year. He became only the 2nd ever director to pull this off (after Michael Curtiz back in 1938). He actually ended up winning one of his nominations (TRAFFIC), the only time ever in Oscars history this event has ever happened in the Director category.
19:24 I love this scene for two reasons: 1) It shows the barrier starting to break down between Erin and her coworkers. 2) Erin has dyslexia, and this scene is alluding to that without saying it outright.
You've probably seen "bundt cake" before. It's made by pouring the cake batter into a particular form for baking. When it's finished, It looks kind of like a ring of hills. (The reason it became popular is because the large surface area of the shape makes it really easy for the cake to quickly cook all the way through, so it has a relatively short baking time and a low danger of ending up raw in the middle or burnt on the edges.)
I've watched many people comment on movies, some have been talked constantly, turn off. A few you included are great. Very passionate man you will always have my support ❤️❤️

When I lived in Southern California, everybody knew who Erin was. Even people that weren't remotely connected. But we all hated PG&E (and still do). I love an intelligent woman who knows how and when to use femininity to get things for people she is helping. Outstanding film and woman.
PG&E has been doing their "thing" for decades. So has she. She came to speak once or twice to those of us affected (or with loved ones affected) by the Paradise Camp fire.
@@ahoyforsenchou7288 My wife and I lived in San Francisco in the 90s and were not affected by their hijinks like you and others. I read the book that this movie is based on. I also read a similar book that came out at about the same time called A Civil Action. It too was a true story that revolved around a similar incident; a company had been poisoning a town's water supply. But in that book and movie, it turned out the judge was in sort of cahoots with one of the attorneys from the company. The lawyer who brought the case on behalf of the town lost the case and wound up bankrupt and broke because of the judge.
Love this movie! The real Erin Brokovich and Ed Masry make a cameo. In the restaurant scene with Erin and her kids, the real Erin Brokovich is their waitress, and the real Ed Masry is sitting in the booth next to them behind Julia Roberts.
Yea, the real Erin Brockovich plays the waitress but also Erin's boss Ed Masry (the lawyer) is sitting behind Julia Roberts in the diner @4:30 & 40:47 (the old guy with glasses).
George Halaby, played by Aaron Eckhart in the film, along with Brockovich's ex-husband Shawn Brown, alleged that she had an affair with Ed Masry. They also attempted to file a lawsuit against her for $310,000. Halaby was arrested and the lawyer John Jeffrey Reiner was suspended from practicing, convicted of extortion, and later disbarred.
Albert Finney, who played Ed Masry, was a British actor of long experience with many movies under his belt. His first big role was as Tom Jones in the movie by that title (1963), a movie that's about as British as you can get. The contrast between Tom, a mischievous young man who draws women to him like ants to sugar, and Ed Masry, could only be accomplished by a veteran of Finney's stature.
At around 15:30 ish.. Ed comes to her place after the firing. She jokes "Maybe it's Ed McMann". the best part about Erin being in this is her character name is Julia and Julia plays Erin. $17,000 in debt from hospital bills my highest hospital bill was over 4 million because my Universal Health card got left in my wallet in the car I was airlifted from. all it took to get that covered was a call to my doctor to get the card number and give it to the hospital waking up from a coma after a stroke to be given a 4.8 million dollar hospital bill they almost gave me a heart attack to go with that stroke🤣🤣
Erin actually got real sick because of her investigations, there were some deleted scenes on the DVD about this but it never got used. Erin was/is bad ass and Julia did a really good job here
Man, my wife and I watched this in the theater when it came out. Hard to believe it been this long. Good movie. Some other really good legal dramas with a David and Goliath feel you might consider: “The Rainmaker” starring Matt Damon “A Civil Action” starring John Travolta
Plot twist: the costs are passed down to PG&E customers. If you lived in PG&E's service area and you didn't want PG&E service, you didn't have electicity. Pacific Gas & Electric: You Have No Other Choice™. (Not entirely true now)
His _company_ got it, which had expenses and debts (including the $2 million payment to her), so a lot of it went to pay all that off, and then a bunch almost certainly went into "working capital" to fund future big cases and "emergency reserve" to be able to continue paying employees' salaries in tough times. It didn't all go straight into his pocket.
3:02 She didn't get into the accident on purpose, she was driving through an intersection...HER light was green, and the guy that hit her went through a red light.
Yes, but her testimony does not match those events. She claims she was slowly pulling out of a parking space, which is clearly not what happened. This makes it seem like she is exaggerating/ lying to gain sympathy from the court.
Another Julia Roberts movie that is excellent is "The Pelican Brief". Just as dramatic but not as happy. It also stars Denzel Washington. This one is a great movie and so is the other one. Good reaction.
Hi Kamilla, nice to see you!😊 You have some super hair going on today, it's cute.💇🏻♀ There is another true story film similar to this one. I know a lot about it as it happened locally, just 9 miles from Boston. It is "A Civil Action" (1998) starring John Travolta. You might want to try it in the future.😉 A "Bundt Cake" uses a pan that makes the cake come out in the shape of a big donut.😉 I forgot about the real rin cameo. Great reactions to this well made true story, Kamilla!!!! 🎬👏👏👏👏

I loved this movie! My mom was a big fan of Julia Roberts; but, she couldn't make it to the theater because she was busy dying. If I could have found a way to get a tape of the movie, I would have done it. But I couldn't swing it.

Good reaction and edit. You also missed the real Ed Masry. During the diner scene he was sitting in the booth behind Julia Roberts. Still hoping that you react to my favorite Julia Roberts film, "Notting Hill".
@13:18 This young man never stood a chance.
I would love to see her react to La Vitta E Bella
Two incredibly good movies you should react to:
Enchanted April movie 1991
Miranda Richardson Polly walker Joan Plowright Josie Lawrence.
The Crying Game movie 1992
Miranda Richardson Stephen Rae forest whitaker Jaye Davidson.

Red Dog
I loved this movie! My mom was a big fan of Julia Roberts; but, she couldn't make it to the theater because she was busy dying. If I could have found a way to get a tape of the movie, I would have done it. But I couldn't swing it.
