Okay... I just randomly search "Amatsumagatsuchi vs Kushala Daora" in google, and one of the result said "Amatsu easily has the strongest storms out of any Elder Dragon (Shantien likely beats Amatsu though)", I just like "Shantien? Never heard of it, let me see the youtube", and so I found this video. I just wanna say... this is the most epic battle in Monster Hunter series, for me at least. I mean, four freaking phase?! Epic battle music especially the 4th phase?! Just... WOW man...
I like that this is back when Frontier was just getting used to its own power, and didn’t need to crank the weapon damage and movesets to 11 to adjust for power creep. People give Frontier so much shit, even though power creep is the main reason why most of the things they bully it for are the way they are. Stronger monsters need stronger weapons and better players, better players need stronger monsters and stronger weapons, and this repeats. Usually I can’t tell what’s happening with Tonfas in the later installations, but here it’s very clear, and they look like a plausible weapon that could be added to mainline games. Also that one move that charges up the one tonfa for a huge sledge to the face is a beautiful thing that I need in my life.
Commenting again after 4 years, but with Espinas (and soon, his subspecies) in MH Rise Sunbreak, a light of hope has been kindled for Shantien to show up in one of the future Title Updates.
or even just in future games in general. The flood gates have been opened and the possibilities are infinite. I'm really looking forward to the frontier craziness that will show its face in the future
just spitballing thoughts here but there is that theory that amatsu might come back bc of some lore drops in risr & sunbreak, but im thinking it might be shantien instead w them trying to bring back frontier monsters and all

I'm kicking myself for not discovering this game years ago when it came out. At the moment, I don't see such great fights in RiseBreak as there are in Frontier with such an epic soundtrack. ❤

For the longest time they refused to put frontier monsters into main games because they were supposed to be exclusive for the players who paid the subscription. Pretty dumb but it looks like theyre finally starting to add them.
