    Thanks, man. Day to day I work with the P-codes and the SPNs and FMIs for the ECM and TCM, true "powertrain" engineer. I like watching you to learn more about B and C-codes. Most of the time I slam Bosch for messing up with the C-codes from ABS, stability, and traction controls. I read up as much as I can, go to SAE meetings, attend the ASE webinars, and try to stay up to date. I really like what you do. It is one way I can stay modern and understand the reality of what it takes to keep the vehicles working.
    I tell the engine and transmission engineers that we have to know the powertrain, perfectly. The guys in the dealerships have to know the whole vehicle and beat book time to make money. We work together, each doing our part. I can do a brake job well, but Rich can do it just a little better. I have the Vision data to figure out why the F-150 has a shudder from the torque converter clutch when the trans fluid is out of spec. We need good guys like Rich!

      I don't know if it will ever be able to fix the greed of not doing the right thing when building a vehicle because the old Mighty Dollar is always going to Trump the lowest bid

      I have worked for some unethical OEMs. My experiences may NOT be typical or accurate. I saw much more incompetence and cheating than full blown greed. The unethical stuff was mostly due to coverups to avoid recalls, lawsuits, or warranty claims. Mfr warranty book times were also a joke. I saw unethical stuff with labor times ...for warranty work.
      I WOULD see greed when it came to failing service parts nearing the end of warranty and/or outside warranty. Zero effs were given when we made big money on service parts. The standard markup was 800%, unless we had competition or upset the customers too much.
      Our core program literally threw away the cores. We did that to starve the aftermarket of rebuildable cores. It worked well. Many (but not all) of our reman parts were new-new but in a different box than the new parts. We wanted cores for the new parts ...just to starve the aftermarket.

    Engineer vs. Mechanic never the twain shall meet. You never know what you are going to find till you pull back the protective shielding. How often do we think that the wire is going to decay. I wonder how often the parts gun gets loaded and everything replaced under the sun to find $.10 worth of became brittle and worn with age. When engineered the sharpness of a bend in conjunction with vibration would cause the issue. My hat goes off to you. Great deductive reasoning. Thanks for sharing. Nice video on Ray this morning and his haunting post with messy tool cart. Some of us work very well that way. Ray is not one of those. Lol

    Absolutely fascinating how you could find a break in the wire like that. I guess this is what I’m looking forward to repairs in my new truck later in the years

    It is sooo hard to find a competent wiring harness engineer. It is a thankless job, and the harness engineers commonly work for the foreign companies and work on site. The OEM harness engineers are typical babysitters to make sure that the harness engineers for the suppier are meeting reauirements.
    I was a harness engineer for a few projects. The program managers budgeted 2 weeks. It was 5 months. On one vehicle the engine harness cost was $96k. It was for a high power HD vehicle. The alternator was oil cooled and took 35 hp. The AUX alternator on the PTO "only" took 28 hp. I wanted to cry. Many of thr components were sourced by a single supplier ...that went out of business. Imagine trying to convince companies to retool for that job.
    The starter motor made 40 hp. There was so much current that the wires would magnetically pull so hard that the P-clips would break. I just wanted to cry. Imagine being a harness engineer for an entire career. Ick.

    Nice find….. I’m sure every IFS nav/expedition that comes in you’ll know right where to go. I agree that radius was too tight especially considering the amount of movement at that spot .

    Phaser and FEAD (front end accessory drive) rattles on startup scare me so much. I just want to cry when doing faults and other diagnostic procedures for phasers. I literally have nightmares about phasers. The diagnostic requirements for CARB give me ulcers. The software that is needed to measure and control the phasers is scary. OCVs (oil control valves) are unstable on purpose to control the phasers. The "hydraulic oil" is engine oil, not my first choice.

    I have a 2018 navigator reserve that I have been having electrical problems my turn signal goes out and then eventually both turn signal followed by the running light in the right side. If I replace the modules it works for a bit but then it does it again. Do you know how I could diagnose it or could this be my headlight causing this short. I replaced the harness and it keeps doing it. It was in an accident and the headlamps are from a junk yard. Thanks

    • @FordBossMe

      This one I couldn't touch from here honestly
      If it was in an accident I'd be suspecting a wiring issue but I'm unsure

    what ever happened to the old reliable cable operated parking brake! Not a fan of electric brake systems! lol

    • @johnphillips222
      @johnphillips222 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish that understood why electonic parking brakes are common. My guess is that it is easier/cheaper/faster to wire up an electonic parking brake than run cables and design new cables and a pedal or lever for each vehicle.
      My guess is that cost and weight are better for the electronic design. Cost includes the whole assembly AND the design cost.

    • @maxpaul11

      @John Phillips yup. in rc car world works great. haha. some of our new technology is just not really needed for simple functions! like headlight control by a bcm, wipers, turn signals extra! kinda just junk in the long run. You see old vehicles works perfectly 30 plus years later! try that with a mid 2000! Solid state systems are far more reliable than electric systems and easily fixed!

    I have expedition 2007 is that have same wires? My park brake light keep on and sometimes go off on the road

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว

      No completely different wires your issue is either your cable is stretched and it's not keeping enough tension to keep the parking brake up all the way where it needs to be or underneath the parking brake it's hard to see it you got to lay down on your back on the floor and look at where your parking brake is the pedal there's a switch and sometimes that switch gets jammed up or broken and also if you don't use the parking brake a lot you can get rusty cables in the back underneath the rotors so you got to remove all the brakes and clean up everything

    Good morning. 2015 Expy push start. This morning went to unlock car nothing completely dead, tried different keys even the keycode access. Wouldn't work. Used the key to get in and alarm goes off. Cant get into accessories mode and wont recognize key even in the little slot if your battery is dead. the buttons to unlock and lock on the inside dont work as well. Any thought??

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No when the key try both are in the safety slot all functions should work
      Seems you now have a security problem that needs a parameter reset
      Make sure the rear trunk lid Wiper Motor is not stuck in the up position and feel the pivot point and see if it feels hot
      They stick and don't park completely and run the battery down and make sure you don't have anything plugged in to the accessory ports when the vehicle is off at night
      Also if you have more than one set of keys that look the same, make sure you grabbed the right ones
      Also those Explorers like to corrode the positive cable to the battery badly that can cause issues

    Question what do you think would be the possibility of adding seat memory buttons using another explorer door trim piece and module same to a 2017 Explorer Sport with power seats but for some reason no memory which is mind-boggling I wonder if it was possible or if you've or anyone has tried it.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could do it but you would have to have somebody program the body control module personality settings or the driver door module I forget what it is I don't do stuff like that though so I couldn't give you a hundred percent directions on how to do it but it can be done
