    Thanks for this! If all goes well, we'll be in Nassau in 74 days and would rather walk around and enjoy the city ourselves than pay for a tour. We were worried about accidentally walking into or through bad parts of town so thank you for including some info on that as well.

    • @FunAshore
      @FunAshore  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it was a little sketchy though... the people trying to sell you stuff or potential pick pockets kind of congregate near the cruise port on Bay Street and Woodes Rogers walk where the most people are. Once you get past that it is relatively quiet, but don’t go over the hill and I would stay in a group and not be alone for sure. I guess being big and scary does help...🤣

    The video was great. Only thing I would say is the area you called sketchy was really just a low income area and thise people wouldn't bother you. The bad areas aren't even close there. Most of Nassau/new providence is safe especially during the day. I always recommend tourist to drive around, east and west bay street are really nice safe drives and with way better beaches on west bay street/western road if you have time.

    So I’ll be there in September and was wondering if I should bring American dollars with me or does pretty much everyone take credit cards?

    • @FunAshore
      @FunAshore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They all pretty much take credit cards but you will want to make sure to let your bank know ahead of time that you are traveling and where to. We have forgotten in the past and had our debit/credit cards frozen while we were. On the cruise! One quick tip though, it is a lot easier to barter with vendors with cash!! You can say “all I have is this much”. With charging to a card it is a different story. 1 US dollar = 1 Bahamian dollar and bring small bills (so you don’t say this is all I have and then ask for change). Have a great trip!!

      I would have had to go out of my way to find someone to declare or search my bags. They don’t really search anyone or even have an area to do so that I know of. It is just a herd of people walking through Festival Place toward the gate to Downtown Nassau. I guess they figure if you are coming from a ship you have already been through pretty rigorous security.

  • @26daddybear
    @26daddybear 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do you think there’s a way to do a long run from the port. I am hoping to do 15 miles without having to do a lot of loupes.

    • @FunAshore
      @FunAshore  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure. The port is right in Downtown Nassau and it is pretty busy with people and traffic but it does have sidewalks. Once you get out of the downtown area there are very few sidewalks and little to no shoulders on the road. On top of that they do drive on the left side of the road which always mixed us up at crossings when we would naturally look the wrong way for oncoming traffic and it was almost a big problem several times. The loop we did was around 3-4 miles but it did venture off to areas with no sidewalks and you had to be on the road. In these areas it is not likely safe to run on the road due to traffic. The only though I have is to maybe get to Paradise Island and do a long run from Paradise Beach to Colonial Beach out to the lighthouse and back. Not 15 miles but remember the entire island is only 16 miles long by 5 miles wide...

    • @26daddybear
      @26daddybear 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun Ashore do the bridges over to Paradise Beach have sidewalks?

    • @FunAshore
      @FunAshore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The northbound one does on the west side. It is a tool bridge but I wouldn’t imagine they charge pedestrians. It is towards the east end of Bay Street and is called the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge. Once over it you would have to take a left on Paradise Beach Drive and through the tunnel under Paradise Lake and continue through to the beach through the Atlantis parking lot. I think that is the only way to get to the beach since Atlantis resort closes off the other access points unless you go the other way (east) to Cabbage beach. Hope this helps!

    From the ship port to the governors house was it a safe walk?

    • @FunAshore
      @FunAshore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, for sure. The only place it is a little concerning is right in front of the Governor’s House since it is a busy street (E Hill St) with a narrow sidewalk on one side. Probably a 5-10 min walk just past the shopping area on Bay Street and up the hill a little via Market Street. If you make it to the Governor’s house go just a little more west to West Hill Street for Heritage Village, Graycliff and the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas. Just past that is John Watling’s Rum Distillery too!!!

    • @FunAshore
      @FunAshore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Claudia H_7 Most of it yes!! Junkanoo beach is free unless you want food or to rent a beach chair or umbrella. If you go out to Fort Charlotte there is a small entrance fee ($5) to go inside and tour the fort. John Watlings rum distillery has free tours (ask for Davonte, he is the best!) but tips for your tour guides are appreciated. The National Art gallery has a small entrance fee if you want to go in but you can walk the beautiful grounds for free. Graycliff is free to explore (hint: upcoming video on this!) and does offer wine tastings for a small fee as well as tours of the chocolate factory for a small fee with samples ($10?) and the cigar factory. The queens staircase is open to the public for no charge and there is a small $5 fee if you want to go in and your Fort Fincastle. Have a great trip!

    • @FunAshore
      @FunAshore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I flew from Junkanoo Beach. Not sure if anything has changed since May but towards the west about 5miles is the Nassau airport and to the East is the cruise port. The cruise port has signs saying you can’t fly drones from that area (no drone zone). I didn’t fly over the port area but I have seen other people’s videos that have.
