We were in Nassau on the 27th of March. We did get a change to get some of the conch fritters at one of the restaurants in the shopping area, they were pretty good. Our first time trying them. They were I think 8.99 per order of 6. But they were large I could only eat 3. Took about 15 minutes for an order of 2 batches. I'm with you on junkanoo Beach it was a bit run down. But the water was beautiful.

Hi Raquel, I will definitely check the pirate museum out! Since you are from the area, do you happen to know whether there is a cheaper/better way to get to Exuma beach to swim with the pigs? Like are there locals that can take you there for a fee? We've been on 3 different cruises that stopped in Nassau and we always get off the ship and walk to Junkanoo Beach for the day. There are different vendors you can rent chairs from that offer different packages and some are nicer than others. The biggest and first you'll come across is Tiki Bikini Hut. We rented from them our first trip to Nassau and had a great day but it is the most popular and crowded part of the beach. There is a restaurant on site that serves conch fritters. Now we walk farther down to Crab n Tings where it's quieter. I think we paid $35 (Oct 2021) for 2 chairs, an umbrella, and it came with a couple of drinks. The staff was very nice and took good care of us. It wasn't anything fancy but all we wanted was a place to sit and enjoy the beach. There's plenty of space down that end of the beach to find a spot without having to rent anything if you want. All three times we've been the beach has always been clean and we had no issues with aggressive vendors trying to sell us things. We are from Rhode Island where the sand is rocky and the ocean is cold so we won't miss a chance to enjoy the warm turquoise water and white sand beach. With the right expectations Junkanoo Beach can make for a great and inexpensive beach day.

We were just in Nassau last Sunday on our first cruise! We visited the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas. It is a very short, quiet, non-touristy walk from the port and was only $5 for admission…also a nice cool break from the heat. It has two floors of exhibits in two beautiful historic connecting buildings and an outdoor trail/exhibit/amphitheater as well. Highly, highly recommend! On my port day in Nassau last September, I walked to Fort Charlotte - the largest British fort on the island. It's about a mile outside of downtown along the main beach road. A local named Julian showed me the way and we found out we attended rival universities. Unfortunately, the fort was closed, but I walked around the grounds and got a coconut from a beach vendor.
I enjoyed my expedition and got some conch fritters on my way back to the ship.

I live in Nassau. The best excursion is Exuma power boat if you on the island long enough. The reality is that Nassau is small and has very few things to offer. A tour of the island is great the first time you stop here. Downtown is literally one street. So you cannot get lost. So if you are looking for an experience = power boat. If you are looking for a resort feel - Margaritaville. DO NOT RENT A SCOOTER! EVER! They are not kept in good condition. They keep breaking down and you spend your day waiting for somebody to come get you. Driving on the other side of the road is also not the easiest. And yes, you do need to have a card in most places, such as hotels, resorts, basically every place on Paradise Island. You also need to have cash because card machines are down frequently. USD is on par with BSD.

I was just in Nassau on my cruise in May 2022. You can just walk into Margaritaville for free and go drink at the bar and walk around! You could even probably slip into the lazy river too-no one was really checking. My friends decided to rent beach chairs when they got there and that was only about $12 a chair. Just FYI in case anyone wants to check it out but doesn't want to take the plunge buying tickets.

  • @christineshin7035
    @christineshin7035 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

We were there in March. What we did was rent beach chairs & an umbrella from the Margaritaville Resort. It was $10 per chair and $10 for the umbrella so $30 total for me & hubby to have a nice beach day (like you said, they only accept credit card). This included the towel service from the resort, so I didn't have to lug my towel from the ship. The portion of Junkanoo Beach in the area of the Margaritaville Resort was very clean, which was one of the reasons we chose to rent chairs there...If you went further down the beach, they charged $10 for a chair too, so it was the same price.

The folks were very nice and a few 'extras' free bottled water, chips, water tour of Atlantis, pig island pictures, feeding and shelling. Then the most beautiful Snorkeling reef I've ever seen. We docked with Royal Caribbean about two weeks ago. There were 3 other massive ships in port. The beach was severely crowded. We spend only 20 minutes in the water and after twisting ankles and risking sliced feet on the SEVERAL glass bottles in the sand in and out of the water, we returned to the ship and soaked in the solarium pool. Wasn’t a fan of Nassau’s very overloaded streets and beach.

When we stopped in on Harmony there were 3 ships in port and an MSC ship also came in shortly after us. I bet it was busy that day. We stayed on and enjoyed the quieter ship.

There is more than one beach in Nassau, there us Cabbage Beach, etc., also there's the park with flamingos and other places to see...
Because they still use their colonial buildings does not mean there is only one thing to do in Nassau. Check with Ministry of Tourism for some other suggestions. There's beautiful neighborhoods...ck out Actor Sidney Poitier's home...etc.

We just did a private charter with Island Time Charters in Nassau and I’m now excited to have Nassau as a cruise port on future cruises. I’ve done Atlantis twice but have landed on, “Nassau is sketchy.” On our last cruise, I was leaning toward staying on the ship as I was pretty much done with this port. However, luckily, I read great reviews about Captain Jason at Island Time on Trip Advisor and I’m SOLD on this port now. You can see the beauty and serinity of the Bahamas in a safe and special way.

We just got back from a cruise last week and did Blue Lagoon Island. It was perfect for our small children. They were able to swim without huge waves crashing on them and enjoyed how clear the water was. The only thing was because our youngest child was under the age of needing a ticket to go on the excursion, she did not get a lunch ticket and had to eat off our our plates. In the end it was fine because she did not eat as she normally does (too much excitement around!) but I couldn’t even get an empty plate to split our food with her, she had to eat off of a napkin and our plate. I think if we go back I may pay for a ticket anyways so we have plenty of lunch tickets to go around. Thanks for sharing your experience!

We just went in May and enjoyed it. The price was $59. I just checked and they raised the price and it is now $87. For $59 it was worth it but $87 is a lot for a day pass to use a pool and beach considering there are no drinks or food included.

I stayed at the Radisson Cable Beach back in the 90s. The beach was really nice. I went to the aquarium and fed the rays, went to the art gallery, I didn’t like being hassled by the hair braiders and random people who would plop down at my beach chair and say no
cost for looking as the started putting bracelets on me. Margaritaville was definitely not built yet. Actually Atlantis was still under construction that is how long ago I was there

not have gone anyway, because of the admission charge! We did go to the "FREE" Margaritaville in Grand

Okay, so I did exactly this on August 20th, 2023. We did pay the full amount ahead of time. I recommend just getting a taxi. It will only be like 12 dollars and my google maps had major issues finding the location and we got a lot of bad directions and it was kind of a fiasco lol Margaritaville was fantastic! The only downside is the beach is right next to the free section so its VERY busy. We ended up just going back up to the pool area which was quiet and relaxing. The Lazy river is AMAZING!!! Appreciate that you found some positives about Nassau but it is a hard pass for me. If it is on my sailing itinerary, I will make it my personal sea day. I regret getting off the ship bc I was cursed at bc I politely declined the sales pitch being yelled at me as I passed to the market area. Thats not a way to get me to spend money, feel safe or enjoy my time at port. I just cant justify paying for a resort when I still feel like the ship is the ultimate resort. However, this is good advice for those who want a better experience.

Just an FYI… we visited Margaritaville on June 25th using a day pass we also booked through resort for a day, and like you side it’s hard to figure out how to get up to the infinity pool, so we walked inside and saw three staff members together and we walked up and said “we have the day pass but we don’t know how to get up to the infinity pool” and one said “no problem! I will show you” and proceeded to show us the stairs to use. We were up there for 10 minutes when a different staff member (now wearing more “official” looking gear) asked us if we were day pass and we proceeded to show our bands, he then said the infinity pool was only for hotel guests and not those who booked the day pass and he would “escort us back downstairs” he literally treated us like criminals, we tried to explain that the pool is mentioned in what’s included/a staff member showed us up there seeing our day pass bands but he kept being extremely rude saying that we must have gone past signs that say “employees only” because the only way to get up to the third floor in the hotel is to use a key card in the elevator, and while that is true bc he proceeded to show us when we got in the elevator with him, we obviously used the stairs on the outside of the resort which were not blocked as he stated. I’m not sure who was right and who was wrong in this scenario, but it definitely was not an enjoyable experience to be embarrassed. The other 4 ppl in the pool at the time were all hotel guests based on the wristband they had.
