    Each to their own and not all are in a position to buy and fix up. I think this boat is or was a absolute bargain buy just not at the price the owner wanted. How would I have done it, easy. Get all the documentation in place about unpaid fees and negotiate a settlement price and some extra yard fees, take a close look at where the water entered and repair cost if any. Now come the bargain side. Owner already involve in one court case. I would offer to settle all bills and make a counter offer for the vessel as it is in current state on the hard. I,e seen nightmares on brand new yachts, where the owners had to spend lots of money. Rewiring a vessel is nothing if one knows how to do it. Lots of stuff clearly has been replaced even if its not installed. This is a ideal project vessel. Anyway, I notice below you guys found your dream boat. Fair winds and enjoy it.

    sounds like the agent was in in the scam, he must have know that the boat was a 3 year old salvage.

    • @mckaysondeck
      @mckaysondeck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing the agent knew was that there had been a "scratch on the gel coat that was professionally repaired." apparently.

      in that case they are just negligent (i know they have a disclaimer the size of a cvs receipt saying they know nothing but what the owner told them , but after a few years , you aren't the first buyer)

    1st a real survey. fly someone in. yes fly a real surveyor in. if you are gonna spend more than 300k then you have to spend 10k flight and there cost. usually if you fly them to a really nice spot they stay for a week and vacation so they dont rake you on the costs. so 10k. yes every boat you look at is gonna cost you so wake up and learn hot to spot stuff.

    • @mckaysondeck

    Pretty good deal. Less than 500k CAD for a 50 foot cat that has been partially restored. Not sure what you were expecting. Is that boat still listed for sale? I’d love to see it. Those Yenmar engines are at least 22k plus install and wiring. Sail-drives look new too that is 7-12k each. Batteries are $4000 per and you have at least 8. Sails are newish, but not used, you can wash those… new flooring, mattress, upholstery, fridge, electronics… that is not suspicious, that is great find!
    Surveyor would detect any structural issues, obviously there were none. Not sure what better you can get for a 2008 50’ cat.
    I’m gonna follow you just see what other dumb decisions you make over time.

    • @mckaysondeck
      @mckaysondeck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually buying a boat with massive undisclosed damage is a huge red flag. There were wiring issues and other unfixed consequences of the damage, and having to pay the yard an additional 50,000 to get the boat release that wasn't disclosed would have been catastrophic for us.

    • @nautidad
      @nautidad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mckaysondeck well, if the damage was professionally fixed (a surveyor would know), then the seller is not obligated to share that. Otherwise, the insurance company would give the vessel a salvage title, and only after the oem approved repair process the vessel could be re-certified, which is a guaranty of seaworthiness. Obviously you would know if the vessel was salvaged before making the trip to see it. Yes, seller could have said something about a boat being restored and that it needs new wiring harness for the new equipment put in.
      You will be very hard pressed to find any boat in this size for any amount, given that everyone is price-gauging because of ‘supply shortage’.
      If this hull has no structural damage, and all it needs is $100k to be fully refit, you’d walk away with a fully refit vessel, as opposed to whatever you end up buying with original equipment, you will need to update anyways.
      I don’t think you are not seeing this logic, as am sure any water damage would be noticed by the surveyor. There must be something else at play. Anyways; if you can share the broker contact or listing where you found it, I would love to explore this opportunity.
      Otherwise know this;
      Boats leak. They are aways submerged. Thats what the bilge pumps are for.
      What makes it a shipwreck is damage+time.

    Sunken boat is not a red flag at all. When the job is done well, it is more legit and better done than nowadays semi-finished boats from "well established brands". The only red flags that you should put is your rush and not informing about the boat status at the yard manager. All value of boats that sit longer is at the yard's manager's office and fees that boat (and owner) made.
    The first, and the only info you need to buy a ticket to see some boat is one e-mail to the yard to ask about the status, fees and the state in which the ship was at the time of docking.
    I'm not sure why your friend, Captain haven't done this research for you at the first place?

    • @shauntoomey3299
      @shauntoomey3299 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to this video.
      The boat was misrepresented. Relevant facts were omitted and there were encumbrances on the boat that were undeclared.

      @mckaysondeck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually our captain friend only came on the scene after I had seen the boat, (trusting the survey) and sent the money. He was the one that started warning us to the issue.s
